Follow-up CD As Good As The First!, November 23, 2004
This review is from: Mistaken Identity (Audio CD)
Having confirmed her place in history as one Australia's most successful and popular singer/songwriters, Delta Goodrem returns with her second studio album 'Mistaken Identity' - the highly-anticipated follow-up to her 14 x Platinum 2003 debut 'Innocent Eyes'. This is a must-have CD for anyone that appreciates true talent, great singing, incredible writing talent and music that stirs your soul.
Delta's first CD was nothing short of incredible. And her follow-up, "Mistaken Identity" is every bit the equal to her freshman entry into the music world.
Her writing, as her music stylings, have grown with the two years since her first release and yet she still remains very true to what brought her to the dance, or the piano in this case. The first single, "Out Of The Blue" is a hauntingly soulful melody that you can't get out of your mind and is just another one of the long string of hits this Aussie beauty is bound to turn out from this sophomore CD.
The rest of the tracks are equally up to the task, especially the title track, "Mistaken Identity," "Electric Storm," and "The Analyst" just to name a few.
This is a MUST HAVE piece of music. Anyone that does not have Delta Goodrem in their music collection is seriously lacking in taste!

Better than her last!, April 4, 2005
This review is from: Mistaken Identity (Audio CD)
Delta's debut sold more than 1 000 000 copies in Australia alone - I personally think it was rather average - I gave it a low 4 stars on my previous review. It's lyrics were sometimes rather childish and immature, and commonly corny.
Contrarily, on her follow-up, her lyrics are rather poetic, and actually are about something, hence the lyrics: "I know July the 8th [the day she was diagnosed with cancer] will be never the same" -- Extraordinary Day, and "Out of the blue, there I met you [Mark P]), and other lines, including a lot of metaphors, and 3rd person talking (hense: "Loves an electric storm", and "She's [I'm] always the analyst!"
It has so-far sold 350 000 copies and Australia and 100 000 in the UK (note: Innocent Eyes sold 600 000 copies in the UK; 2.3 million copies worldwide).
I strongly recommend this CD for everyone. I, personally think the lead single 'Out of The Blue', is the worst song on this album, it is far simplistic, and is no progress from her previous work, and 'Almost Here' is just a simple pop-ballad that Delta didn't even write.
The standouts are the second (third in the UK) single 'Mistaken Identity', which is poetic, and original -- it sounds Tori Amos influenced, 'THE ANALYST' is another of my two favourites. The background vocalists are outstanding, and even though at the intro it starts of a bit slow, it turns out outstanding. Another standout is 'ELECTRIC STORM' it is very smooth and fast-paced, and would do a platinum single! Miscommunication and Fragile are also very good.
The only dull tracks are the first, last and 'Be Strong' -- which all are far too simplistic and acoustic.
To conclude, this album showcases a great range of songs, from the simplistic 'Out of The Blue', to the poetic 'Mistaken Identity, and to the complex original genius (a bit of an overstatement, but anyway.....), 'ELECTRICAL STORM' I very strongly recommend that anyone should purchase this release. I even took a risk by bring disapointed by Innocent Eyes, AND the lead single for this album, and it turned out very good. As the singles sold Innocent Eyes, I feel that this is a more 'no-filler'-ish type oof album.

Delta's finest yet by far, January 26, 2005
Mistaken Identity is an exceptional album and it feels to me that you can tell Delta has put her heart and soul into this follow up to her hugley successful debut, it pays off and the result is nothing less of a masterpeice. Although I am not a HUGE Delta fan, I have to say this album is absolutley stunning, I like the darker edge to this alubm in comparison to Innocent Eyes, which while being a good album was a little too teeny bopper for me, Mistaken Identity doesnt have that sort of feel to it, the lyrics are darker and the vocals more powerful. Most of the songs on this album are beautiful, my personal faves are ELECTRIC STORM, which in my opinion is one of Delta's best songs EVER, Sanctuary, Extraordinary Day, The Analist, Miscommunication and the amazing hidden track. All in all, if you are just getting into Delta i reccomend this album over Innocent Eyes, this is Delta's finest yet. I've gotta say Delta has come a long way since the corny Born to try, she just keeps getting better, and i hope she continues to do so.
