5.0 out of 5 stars Life after 38 mistakes
Great little book and a fantastick follow up book to Credit After Bankruptcy. We puchased Credit After Bankruptcy in April 2004, attended a seminar by Stephen in May. This all started our credit education. Loving those first two experiences by Stephen we purchased Do you Make thes 38 Mistakes in August. My wife and I have made incredible gains in our credit life. 1.0 out of 5 stars Where's the Beef?
I was a little annoyed with this book; there's very little in it. I'll have to admit that the information that is there is useful, but there's no depth to this book. It was probably written in an afternoon.

Sure, there are 81 pages, as the details specify. But... 40 of them are blank or just a big number; there are only 41 pages of actual information. And...

And this is a small format book ... and some of the pages don't contain much! Page 55 has 59 words, including the title.

Furthermore, the marketing behind this book is misleading; they're using the old direct-mail format of feature and page number. For instance,

"The absolute worst thing you can do when trying to increase your FICO credit scores. This one action has the biggest negative impact on your FICO credit scores. Avoid it at all costs! (Page 75)"

Page 75 says what? Don't pay your credit card late! Okay, true, but isn't it rather obvious that creating a bad credit history is bad for your credit?

Yes, this book provides a number of basic rules that are very important. But I think the author might have put forth a little more effort. This is a magazine article, not a book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Reminders - Not Mindblowing!, September 26, 2005
This review is from: Do You Make These 38 Mistakes with Your Credit? How increasing your credit scores will improve your lifestyle (Hardcover)
I went to Stephen Snyder's Credit After Bankruptcy seminar and learned a boatload of stuff I didn't know about credit and FICO scores. This book is an excellent set of reminders of what NOT to do after being discharged from bankruptcy or if you have credit problems in general. Is it epic? No, not really. But I consider it like having my own "38 commandments of credit" and a worthwhile crib sheet of the do's and don't's.

In 8 months following the real implementaion of these 38 Mistake rules, we have increase our FICO Scores from all three bureaus an average of 183 points for my wife and 208 points for me. It was my wifes idea to buy Stephens book and I have never doubted her intuition since.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book to improve and maintain your CREDT SCORE, March 15, 2005
This review is from: Do You Make These 38 Mistakes with Your Credit? How increasing your credit scores will improve your lifestyle (Hardcover)
If you want some great advice on how to improve and maintain your credit score BUY THIS BOOK NOW. You should also buy Stephen Snyder's other book Credit After Bankruptcy. Implementing what Stephen has taught in both books (Credit after Bankruptcy & Do you make these 38 mistakes...)I watched my credit score jump 150 points in 12 months. I also own my first home in New York thanks to a better score and S. Snyder. I recommend anything from Stephen Snyder.

Mr. Snyder takes on the bewildering topic of FICO credit scores and boils it down into a very easy to read, and more importantly, useful book. One can read this book in a lunch hour and come away with a new understanding of credit scoring. I knew that credit scores where important, but I did not know how pervasive they had become in our lives. Did you know that the insurance industry is now checking credit scores to set rates? So, if you have low credit scores your insurance bill is higher than someone with higher scores for the exact same insurance! I learned quite a few things that I've been doing that are killing my credit scores. These are mistakes that are easy to fix or avoid. Thank you Mr. Snyder for this easy to understand and informative guide. This is definitely a 5 star book.

4.0 out of 5 stars to the point, July 24, 2005

This review is from: Do You Make These 38 Mistakes with Your Credit? How increasing your credit scores will improve your lifestyle (Hardcover)
This book is straight forward and to-the-point. I know a lot about credit scoring (from Stephen's first book), and yet I still learned at least a few new things that are very valuable to me regarding my own credit. I gave 4 out of 5 stars only because I would have liked a further, more detailed, explanation of certain things (these things won't be too difficult to find out via the web).

This is one of the most important books that you need to read if you are in the business of improving your credit by raising your FICO score. The book is very easy to read and it is straight to the point! This is a good reference book and will also serve as a great gift. I HIGHLY recommend that you purchase this book and any others by Stephen Synder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Little Book Loaded With Info!, March 12, 2005
This review is from: Do You Make These 38 Mistakes with Your Credit? How increasing your credit scores will improve your lifestyle (Hardcover)
This is a great little book! It's simple, to the point and gives practical advice on how to handle or reconstruct ones credit. The advice is easy and can be immediately incorporated into one's financial practices. It clears up misconceptions about credit shopping, using cash vs credit and how to interpret ones credit report. It specifically tells one how to increase their credit score.

This is a great price. After I purchased the initial book, I purchased another for a gift and paid more than the listed price on Amazon. A good investment!

'Do You Make These 38 Mistakes' booklet is easy to reference both in content and size. Though none of the subjects go into great detail, as an 'investigative query' it suits the purpose masterfully, providing the reader with thoughts and insights to follow if further research is warranted.
