Jordan is a singer and guitarist with a considerable amount of talent whose fretwork can indeed cover many styles. Whether hes doing a little bit of Chicago style on the opening track "Its The Truth," or on "You Better Run," a searing slow-tempo blues tune that allows Jordan to demonstrate some impressive wah infused soloing.
One of the more interesting cuts here is "The One That Got Away," a jazzy Miles Davis influenced track with some terrific trumpet work from Timothy Chokan. "Hey Now Baby!" is a jump blues number that would do T-Bone Walker and Louis Jordan proud. Jordan also gives us a taste of his acoustic chops on the closing track, "Christmas Day."
Jordan demonstrates some intricate fretwork throughout this release, but maybe what is most impressive is that he understands that more is not necessarily better. Mister Bad Luck is an impressive debut effort packed with equal parts punch and class. One suspects that we will be hearing more from Oscar Jordan in the future.

Good, and it gets better,

Mister Bad Luck is a phoenomenal album, and truly one of my favorites, but if you like Oscar Jordan, check out "Eclectic Soul" it's as good, if not better than "Mister Bad Luck" with an INCREDIBLE array of work. Jordan completely immerses himself in a song and a style. The album is an affectionate homage to the days of turntables and vinyl with a thoroughly modern kick. Keep that Oscar Jordan collection building, you won't be sorry!

It's hard writing about a friend's CD...especially when you play on one track. Objectivity tends to go out the window. Friendships sometimes go out the window. Fortunately for me, this did not happen, as Oscar has come up with an incredibly strong debut CD. Although based in L.A. these days, Oscar's Chicago roots shine through and he manages to incorporate rock, funk, jazz and roots music elements seamlessly. His guitar playing burns, but is not over the top. Is he Jimmy Reed or Vernon Reed? He's both! The writing also shows depth and range, while placating the blues police! I've heard hints of things to come and trust me, it gets nothing but better!

Incredible work from this true Chicago bluesman.,

This whole cd is astonishingly great! Absolutely exceptional work from Oscar Jordan. Great diversity and variety; hard-hitting power with "It's the Truth" and "Mister Bad Luck," funk with "Live to Tell," a jazzy riff on "The One That Got Away" and slow acoustic blues (beautifully offset with a single cello) for "Christmas Day." This disk shows a range and depth not to be expected on a first outing. Worth a second listen, a third, and many more! I hope to hear more from Oscar Jordan soon; this fantastic cd promises interesting things to come.
