2008 soundtrack to the film Mr. Lonely featuring music composed by Jason Pierce of Spiritualized and Spacemen 3 fame (here, operating under the name J. Spaceman). The soundtrack also feature performances by the Sun City Girls. The film tells the tale of a young drifter who gets his kicks impersonating Michael Jackson. This ersatz King of Pop stumbles into a community of like-minded mimics-- everyone from Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, Shirley Temple, Madonna, and the Three Stooges to Abe Lincoln, the Pope, and the Queen of England. Drag City.

This is more of less the "incidental" music of the film. It's fine electronic music, but none of the amazing songs from the film are present on this disc: Bobby Vinton's "Mr. Lonely," the gospel songs "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Standing on the Promise," Iris Dement's "My Life," Stanley Black's version of "Cheek to Cheek," nor the many beautiful African songs. If these had been included, this could have been one of the greatest soundtracks of this year, as The Darjeeling Limited was for 2007.

This is pretty good soundtrack and collection of sounds and dialogue. The best piece of music in the film is when all of the nuns test their faith and jump out of the plane together. There is one of the most beautiful, haunting string pieces that I have ever head during this scene and, of course, it's not in the soundtrack. Does anyone know what this song is or who composed it?
