The first time i listened to mad cobra was when i heard "flex." "Hard to wet..." was very good and had alot of other powerful tracks on it like "mate a talk" and the track with the geto boys. I bought this album expecting something similar, but instead found something not as slickly produced and without american rappers on it. At first i was disappointed, but i quickly came to like this recording alot. Each track sounds so different than the others, which keeps the listener from getting bored...in fact, this album beats the one i previously mentioned because i didn't find myself skipping over filler. Every song on this album has its own personality, whether you like 'em or not, you have to give cobra props for not putting filler on the disc. The strongest tracks on the album are "sitting and watching." Mr. cobra only had one guest on this lp and he made an excellent choice, dennis brown is a reggae legend with arguably the best singing voice in reggae. "To the max" is probably my next favorite, with the sampling of the dogs barking and the beat, it is a very unusual and catchy tune. The other killa tracks on the album are "r.i.p", "wife and darling", and "mark 10" largely because of the unusual sampling done put down. "Length and Bend" was the last track on the album when i got it back in '94 and it had the best bass groove (the hesitation works very well)...very deep and smooth. I get the sense that mad cobra got to do what he wanted on this album and didn't have several producers (as with "hard to wet...") telling him what techniques will guarantee platinum sales. It's a relatively primitive recording, but if you like the dancehall genre this won't disappoint.
