Book Description

Spending a quiet Christmas housesitting and reading novels about hot cowboys sounds perfect to Caitlin. Until a stray kitten brings her face-to-face with Noah, her crush from college. Watching the handsome vet in action melts Caitlin's heart and brings back long forgotten emotion. She would be safer back at the house lost in the pages of a book. But a toe-curling mistletoe kiss tempts her to stay. Maybe she won't be spending this Christmas… alone.

Veterinarian Noah Sullivan isn't a Scrooge, but the Christmas Eve tradition of hanging mistletoe in the clinic's waiting room annoys him. Kissing doesn't belong at the Copper Mountain Animal Hospital. Noah rethinks his position when Caitlin Butler arrives with a stray kitten she found freezing in the snow. All he wants now is to maneuver the pretty preschool teacher under the mistletoe. If he's not careful, he'll wind up on Santa's naughty list.

Mistletoe Magic is a short story companion to the Copper Mountain Christmas series.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Mistletoe Magic is a 9000 word short story I wrote to go along with the three novellas that make up A Copper Mountain Christmas:

* A Cowboy for Christmas by Katherine Garbera
* Home for Christmas by me
* Christmas on Copper Mountain by Jane Porter

I love cats! The number of cats in our house changes because I foster for a local humane society, usually seniors and ones with health issues. My own kitties range in age from 2 to 16 1/2 years old.  I also have two dogs, who the cats tolerate. Well, sort of. The dogs know to keep their distance, especially from the older cats!

When I was asked to write a short Christmas romance story, I'd been dealing with a couple sick cats that not only meant visits to the vet, but trips to an emergency animal hospital.  The setting seemed a natural fit for a short story. I also wanted to rewrite something that happened to me while I was writing Home For  Christmas.

I found a stray cat in my backyard. Guess my crazy cat lady reputation made the rounds with the local feline crew. Because I foster, I knew who to call and they got right to work. A couple hours later, I was with the cat, named Shasta by the humane society, at a vet office where he received much needed medical attention. I'd received a new foster cat the night before so he was taken in by the humane society and placed with a different foster. Unfortunately, Shasta didn't survive, but for the last weeks of his life he was comfortable, warm, had plenty to eat and was loved. For me, that's what animal rescue and fostering senior cats is all about.

But I'm a romance writer and prefer happy endings. Christmas is a time for magic and miracles so in Mistletoe Magic I wrote the ending I wanted for Shasta and every foster/stray cat out there.

Montana, especially the quaint town of Marietta, is a wonderful place to spend the holidays. I hope you enjoy this short story and the three A Copper Mountain Christmas novellas.

5.0 out of 5 stars A warm holiday read! November 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Mistletoe Magic is the cutest holiday read. Caitlin, the Patterson housesitter, was more than excited to housesit so she could enjoy the "homey" feel of their home at Christmastime. She then finds a hurt kitten and takes it to the local Vet to try to save its life when she realizes the Vet is an old colege flame. This college boyfriend once broke her heart. As soon as they both realized who the other was, the feelings they both had started to ignite.
When a coworker points out they are standing under a mistletoe, they kiss and both begin to believe in the magic of Christmas. They decide to spend Christmas together as neither has anyone to spend it with. Could this be their 2nd chance of love?
This is a fun and romantic book and gives readers a feeling of warmth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Lost - Love Found! December 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It was a fun, lighthearted Christmas story that reconnects a disconnected romance through a sick kitten . Although short it was impactful. I haven't read any of the other Copper Mountain books but have added them to my list. It's an hour of fun!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Romance December 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Pre-school teacher Caitlin Butler is ready to spend her Christmas house-sitting for friends, reading and watching DVDs. What could be better?

When Caitlin discovers a stray kitten, in desperate need of medical care, she races to the local veterinarian’s office. Much to her surprise, the local vet is the handsome guy she dated back in college.

Dr. Noah Sullivan is ready to be everyone’s Scrooge when he sees mistletoe hung in the clinic’s waiting room. He’s convinced that the animal hospital is no place for the holiday frivolity, but when he sees Caitlin carrying a freezing kitten, his feelings completely change.

Noah and Caitlin rediscover their feelings as a kitten struggles to stay alive. This is a sweet romance that will warm everyone’s heart. The perfect story for this time of year.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mistletoe Magic January 3, 2014

This was another free book and was exactly what I was expecting it to be. If you want a quick read, but a rather predictable read, then this book is it. It was actually a good type of book to read during the holiday can read to relax, but there are not a whole bunch of details to remember!

A short but sweet story. Maybe a 30 minute read. but light, fun and romantic. I kind of wish there was an epilogue to know how it ends but still good.

More About the Author

I've always been a fan of fairy tales and "happily ever afters", but I'd never read a category romance until my senior year of high school when my A.P. English teacher, Mrs. Cooper, had the class study genre fiction. She assigned each of us a Harlequin Romance to read. Mine was set in the Canary Islands and I couldn't wait to read another one. And another and another. I was hooked. Needless to say, I owe Penny Cooper a debt of gratitude. And yes, we do keep in touch!

After graduating from Stanford University with a degree in mechanical engineering, I worked for Allied Signal analyzing engine performance in Phoenix, Arizona, and my love of romance novels continued to grow. One day, I decided to write a romance of my own. Easier said than done I quickly learned, but I discovered the Desert Rose Chapter of Romance Writers of America and realized how little I knew about writing romances.

After three years in Phoenix (Tempe, actually), I began to hate the Arizona summers. Who cares if it's a dry heat? Anything over a hundred and ten is still hot. So I took at job at United Airlines in San Francisco. I was still analyzing jet engine performance, but now I had travel benefits. I spent five years traveling the globe. My love for writing romances also grew.

Writing became a passion, and the few hours spent at the computer during lunchtime and in the evenings weren't nearly enough. With lots of prodding and support from my husband of six months whom I met working at UAL, I decided to follow my dream and write full-time.

It was a good decision. My first full-time effort, FIANCE FOR THE NIGHT, was also my first sale to Silhouette Yours Truly. When I got the call that Silhouette was buying my book, I was pregnant with my first child. I was jumping up and down so much, my husband was afraid I was going to go into labor.

I moved to the Silhouette Romance line with my second sale, IF THE RING FITS. My daughter was three months old at the time and I was so tired I barely remember the phone conversation with my editor. Thank goodness my husband was home once again when the telephone rang or I might have thought I dreamed the second sale!

I sold my third book, THE WEDDING LULLABY, when I was pregnant with my second child and got a literary agent, too. I'm represented by Annelise Robey at the Jane Rotrosen Agency. I started hoping being pregnant wasn't a trend or a requirement for future sales. It wasn't even though we now have three children.

With the closing of the Silhouette Romance line, I was moved from the New York editorial office to the Harlequin Mills & Boon editorial office in London in May 2005.

I live in Washington with my real-life hero husband, two daughters, a son, lovable, but oh-so spoiled indoor cats and an adorable forty-eight pound Norwegian Elkhound who thinks she's a lap dog. I love to ski, rock climb and read!
