Gold that buys health can never be ill spent; nor hours laid out in harmless merriment. ~ John Webster

MISTLETOE, MERRIMENT, AND MURDER is Sara Rosett's seventh book with Ellie Avery - military spouse, organizer specialist, and amateur sleuth. This was my first adventure with Ellie - Rosett provided a seamless entry into her world. As Ellie prepares for the holidays, the harmless merriment of the military spouses leads to murder within their ranks. Since Ellie found the body, she is suspected of the crime. Ellie initiates a subtle investigation with an unlikely ally to clear her name and bring justice to the victim.

MISTLETOE, MERRIMENT, AND MURDER was a pleasant, easy, and quick read. Rosett balances the cozy mystery with accurate details of military life. In fact, she explored the rewards and challenges of constant moving and deployments. Rosett also included "organizing" tips at the end of each chapter, reminding me to get ready for the holiday season!

Recommended read for those looking for a cozy mystery with holiday themes.

Event organizer Ellie Avery has mixed feelings about the Christmas season. On the one hand she is ecstatic that her husband Mitch is home for the holidays with her and their two kids before deploying with his r Air Force Base squadron shortly. On the other hand she is unhappy that rival organizer Gabrielle Matheson has set up shop in North Dawkins, Georgia as the newcomer is stealing clients that Ellie thought would use her services. At a squadron party hosted by Ellie at her home, she and Gabrielle get into a public argument.

Feeling guilty for her childish display, Ellie meets Gabrielle at the home of the latter's sister Jean to apologize. When Ellie arrives for the rendezvous, she finds Jean's dead; her head smashed in.. Gabrielle arrives soon afterward and tells the Sheriff Ellie found the body. Making matters more suspicious is that the murder weapon was given to Ellie at her party as a gag gift. Shockingly Gabrielle teams up with Ellie in search of the real killer.

The latest Ellie Avery amateur sleuth (see Mint Juleps, Mayhem, And Murder; and Magnolias, Moonlight, And Murder) is an engaging whodunit that once again enables readers to see close up the lives of air force spouses and dependents living on a base in a military town. The storyline is filled with twists and a strong cast as Ellie investigates the murder with her competitor joining her.

I love cozy mysteries, but as a happily married woman, I do get tired of the inevitable herione who has had her no good husband/boyfriend leave her causing her to move to a new town to start again. I had never read any book by Sara Rosett before and was pleasantly surprised that Ellie was 1) happily married, 2) had children, and 3) takes them to church! The Christmas mystery was enjoyable and the ending good. I feel like Ellie could be a good friend of mine since we have the same values. I will read more books by Sara Rosett.

this installment in Ellie Avery's adventures is as good if not better than the previous stories which I have read all. Just when I thought I had it figured out..I didn't! Great reading.

I'm sad to admit this is my first Ellie Avery mystery but happy to say it won't be the last! Ellie is such a wonderful character with a sweet husband, cute kids, and an interesting job as a professional organizer. Even though these were new-to-me characters, I instantly connected with them and found myself absorbed in their lives. Christmas cozies are extra special to me so that made this the perfect book in the series for me to start with!

The mystery is fast paced and full of twists and turns that kept me riveted. The action-packed scene where a killer is brought to justice on a neighbor's overly decorated front lawn was great fun and very clever. I enjoyed Ellie's partnership with her rival Gabrielle, the victim's sister, and Marie the hoarder was one of my favorite characters...I hope she returns in a future book!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a little murder with their eggnog.
