Book Description

8 and up3 and upMistmantle Chronicles
After his last adventures, Urchin of the Riding Stars has taken his place as a trusted member of the Circle in King Crispin's court.  Life on the island is back to normal, with little Princess Catkin growing up and testing everyone’s patience in the process.
But daily life is disrupted when Lord Arcneck and other inhabitants of Swan Isle come to Mistmantle asking for help.  Their home has been taken over by bloodthirsty ravens that are attacking them and ravaging everything in sight.
The brave animals of Mistmantle rush to the aid of their friends, but in doing so, incur the wrath of the invaders upon themselves.  The vengeful ravens are powerful and won’t stop until they hunt down and destroy every creature on the island.  Only by using all of their courage and cunning will Urchin and his friends stand a chance to preserve life as they know it on their beloved home.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful book series, November 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I found out about the Mistmantle series through a friend who had read them. While she was a grown woman, she thoroughly enjoyed them and recommended them to me, a homeschooling mom to six children who loves to read out loud to my kids and is always on the look-out for *wholesome* stories. My friend also recommended Redwall but said she thought as a first time reader of these kinds of books, Mistmantle was an "easier" read and more action-packed, so it would really get my kids excited. I had never read any of either series so I got the first book of Mistmantle and we read it in a few nights. I have to say, my kids were BEGGING me to keep reading. My throat was so dry!

We immediately got all of the books and fell in love with the characters. If you are a believing person, this story series has a bit more "religious-ness" to it than Redwall. There is actual praying in this book, which we all loved, as we are believers. It was so powerful and made the story so much more real for us. What would most characters do in a bad situation or when death is imminent? Of course, pray! That is actually the one fault of Redwall in my opinion (and we are huge fans of that series also!) is that there is a little too much "magic spell" stuff going on within the vermin hordes, but no prayers within the Abbey. And that is truly what makes this book series great. That connection with the characters, seeing them vulnerable and calling out to a higher power.

I love the series as much as my children do and anxiously await each new one. I highly recommend this book to all children and to parents to read aloud to their children. All of them are fast-paced, exciting, funny, fun...full of adventure and suspense and drama and love and forgiveness and the battle of good vs. evil. You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Book for kids and maybe parents, September 17, 2011

This review is from: Mistmantle Chronicles Book Four, The: Urchin and the Raven War (Paperback)
I bought this for a pre-teen who is hooked on this series. The funny thing is that he raved about this series so much that the rest of my family is now hooked on the books too! I would have to say that if you like adventure books that will pull you in, want to avoid you child taking in too much violence, and has characters that you can identify with, this is a good choice. We started the series because the school recommended it.

Book Four is a great follow up to book three in the series. My daughter and I read together and found it a real page turner and difficult to put down. My only regret is that it wasn't available on Kindle, however we like to collect the series for the beautiful illustrations. Can not wait for Book Five.
