5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful book series

1.0 out of 5 stars REPRINT THE FIRST ONE!!!!
Dear Hyperion Books,

If you would like readers, libraries and bookstores to maintain an interest in this series, it would be good idea to keep the first one in print. It's a great series, but without the ability to buy/replace to the first one, I do not believe our library will continue to stock it.

sincerely,

I found out about the Mistmantle series through a friend who had read them. While she was a grown woman, she thoroughly enjoyed them and recommended them to me, a homeschooling mom to six children who loves to read out loud to my kids and is always on the look-out for *wholesome* stories. My friend also recommended Redwall but said she thought as a first time reader of these kinds of books, Mistmantle was an "easier" read and more action-packed, so it would really get my kids excited. I had never read any of either series so I got the first book of Mistmantle and we read it in a few nights. I have to say, my kids were BEGGING me to keep reading. My throat was so dry!

We immediately got all of the books and fell in love with the characters. If you are a believing person, this story series has a bit more "religious-ness" to it than Redwall. There is actual praying in this book, which we all loved, as we are believers. It was so powerful and made the story so much more real for us. What would most characters do in a bad situation or when death is imminent? Of course, pray! That is actually the one fault of Redwall in my opinion (and we are huge fans of that series also!) is that there is a little too much "magic spell" stuff going on within the vermin hordes, but no prayers within the Abbey. And that is truly what makes this book series great. That connection with the characters, seeing them vulnerable and calling out to a higher power.

I love the series as much as my children do and anxiously await each new one. I highly recommend this book to all children and to parents to read aloud to their children. All of them are fast-paced, exciting, funny, fun...full of adventure and suspense and drama and love and forgiveness and the battle of good vs. evil. You won't be disappointed!

This review is from: Mistmantle Chronicles Book Four, The: Urchin and the Raven War (Paperback)
I bought this for a pre-teen who is hooked on this series. The funny thing is that he raved about this series so much that the rest of my family is now hooked on the books too! I would have to say that if you like adventure books that will pull you in, want to avoid you child taking in too much violence, and has characters that you can identify with, this is a good choice. We started the series because the school recommended it.

Book Four is a great follow up to book three in the series. My daughter and I read together and found it a real page turner and difficult to put down. My only regret is that it wasn't available on Kindle, however we like to collect the series for the beautiful illustrations. Can not wait for Book Five.

Can't wait for the next book to come out! The whole series has been a really good read and so far I've loved every book. Can't understand why this series is not more widely known. It's excellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect book for all woodland creature lovers, January 12, 2009
A Kid's Review
This book was so exciting I couldn't stop! It is about a squirrel named Urchin. Urncin lives on a island with beautiful scenery. The island of Mistmantle is surrounded by mists that only true Mistmantle creatures can get through. Urchin being the hero of the story has gone through the mists many times before. Urchin now works in the Mistmantle Tower as a circle animal. (The king's most trusted animals) Lord Archneck , an ally from Swan Isle, comes to the beautiful Mistmantle for help of his Island. He comes to King Crispin to beg for him to help his island from being eaten by savage, bloodthirsty ravens! Of course being a kind and honorable king, he agrees to help the dying swan and his companions. Learn what dangers and excitements Urchin goes through while he strives to save Swan Isle.

P.S. Hmm, perhaps my apologies are in order? I just found a reprint on Barnes and Noble. I am mystified by it not being listed on Amazon though. Really, do you want to sell this book???
