4.0 out of 5 stars Know what you're spraying
I've had my Misto about 5 months and feel it was a good purchase. I prefer using olive oil from Spain for it's strong flavor, and can change the oil if I desire.

One reviewer said the sprayer "spurts"; I would describe it as steady and even, but definitely not a fine spray. The lid is easy to pump, and about 10-15 pumps will spray 12 muffin tins, or a...

Maybe I'm stronger than I think, but I've had two of these and both of them broke within a month. I had the white one and also a stainless finished one. On both, the black band around the middle began coming off on my hands.

Worse, though, on both of mine the chamber cracked around the edge, making it impossible to pressure the spray. Believe me, I'm no gorilla and I didn't overdo it, at least not according to the instructions.

I've gone back to a regular little pump sprayer.

I've had my Misto about 5 months and feel it was a good purchase. I prefer using olive oil from Spain for it's strong flavor, and can change the oil if I desire.

One reviewer said the sprayer "spurts"; I would describe it as steady and even, but definitely not a fine spray. The lid is easy to pump, and about 10-15 pumps will spray 12 muffin tins, or a griddle, or a few cookie sheets before running out of "oompf". Another reviewer said the lid "raises up on its own"...don't overpump the thing if you're only using a few squirts! If you put it away with little or no pressure inside, the lid won't push up.

I purchased mine at an exclusive kitchen store and paid $21, so the $17.99 price on Amazon.com is a good deal if you can work out free shipping. I'm planning to buy one for my Mom for Christmas, I'm sure she'll love it!

Why not 5 stars? If the price would come down to about $10, I'd give it 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll Want More than One!, July 2, 2000
By A Customer
This is a great product. I like the stainless steel model, which is a little more expensive than the aluminium design, the best. Both designs however work well. You can't own too many of these "Misto" spayers. They have so many uses. The manual "pump" design is a bit of a pain but it's environmentally friendly. I didn't have a problem with the "pump" clogging" which I anticated might happen (and sometimes does with less well-made products of a similar type.) An insert that comes with the "Misto" suggests many other practical uses for the product. Don't be surprised after getting your first "Misto" that you'll want to get a few more! The different colors of "collars" (or bands) that are available are a useful way to distinguish one "Misto" from the other, when you own several of these practical manual "pump" sprayers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pretty but useless - get a spray bottle instead, May 15, 2003

You can buy ten good plastic spray bottles for the price of a Misto, and they will each last longer and work better that it does.

Even with regular cleanings, the Misto malfunctioned after about a month. Then pieces fell off. Then it leaked all over my cupboard.

Bye-bye, Misto! Into the trash with you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Two years and running, November 15, 2006

This gadget works well if you do not overfill it. The MISTO website says to put no more than 1/3 cup of oil in it. We made the mistake of putting too much oil in at first and it would only "stream" oil for a month or so. We thought it was a terrible device until the oil got down to the level where it should be. I'm guessing most of the unhappy reviews here are because of this problem. Now that we know this is the issue, it sprays wonderfully! We're going to get another one for canola.

3.0 out of 5 stars not exactly what i expected, February 17, 2001
By A Customer
i would rather use a regular pump spray bottle than this particular sprayer. you can't just pick it up and spray, you have to pump it up and down a few times, spray, then you have to unscrew the cap to releive the pressure to put the cap back on to store it. it requires too much maintainence for my style of cooking. so this sprayer is not exactly what i expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bet You'll Want More Than Just One!, January 14, 2001
By
Al the Pal "Al the Pal" (The Fruited Plain, United States) - See all my reviews
We bought one, but we find we want more to put different oils in. I have Lemon Pepper oil in the current one that is great for spraying pans and other uses when you want just a light coat of oil. It tends to apply a splatter rather than a fog at low pressure (3-4 pumps). You can regulate the size of the drops by increasing the pressure - the more pressure the finer the mist.

I use it when grilling to spray fish filets before putting them on and to baste them during cooking, keeping them moist. Even a light spray of flavored oil on your salad or pasta is a pleasant change. I suppose it would work with other fluids like vinegar or light, clear sauces.

The pump is really not that difficult to use. It is very similar to the one on some Envirotech car polishes I use. You just push the cap in and out several times and it will spray. You can relieve the pressure for storage by loosening the collar around the spray valve.

You will find more uses with every meal you prepare; just keep it filled and handy!

4.0 out of 5 stars See the Misto Website for Detailed Care Information, January 1, 2004
By A Customer
Several reviewers have complained about performance of the Misto. It does need regular cleaning. The more highly unsaturated the oil you use, the quicker the spray valve will clog with oxidized, polymerized oil. Varnish is just a vegetable oil selected for the ease with which is oxidizes.

There is a Misto web page with complete care information at:

http://www.misto.com/troubleshooting.html#HowtoInstall

When my pump tube failed, they sent out a replacement. If you look at it carefully you will see that the pump tube does need to be handled gently.

I wish their website offered a way to order replacement parts.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save Your Money, May 30, 2004
I have owned a Misto for a while and, as others have, I noticed the way the quality of the spray deteriorated over time so that you would only get a stream of oil, instead of a mist. Well, this morning, my Misto exploded while I was using it to make pancakes (periodically spraying the pan during the process). Luckily, no one was hurt, but there is a dent in my kitchen ceiling where the top hit it, upon being expelled from the base with great force. I would estimate the BANG that accompanied the explosion was 85-90 decibels. I will definitely not buy another Misto based on today's explosion, but even before this, I was rather ho-hum about the product anyway. My advice: save your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb..., January 12, 2001
By
One of the very few 'kitchen gadgets' that does exactly what it's supposed to do simply and easily. Decoratively, too! Produces so fine a spray that one filling lasts surprisingly long. One caution: my old eyes mis-read the teensy booklet directions as 'fill 1/3 full.' Drove me crazy trying to gauge this because obviously the container isn't transparent. It's really ' 1/3 CUP.'
