1.0 out of 5 stars Obscure Buchanon "classic", April 11, 2002
This review is from: Mistress of the Apes [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Fans of grade Z Buchanan "classics" such as 'Zontar' and "Curse of the Swamp Creature' are going to be disappointed by the near mediocre nature of this film. However, this film contains one of the funniest moments in ANY film ever made, whether intentional or not. About halfway through the movie, we hear the stupifyingly bad song written for the film, of the same name. This ridiculous tune is accompanied by the lead actress making "ape" noises in an attempt to communicate with the "missing links" portrayed in the film. The first time I saw this sequence, I was recovering from an abdominal hernia operation, so the intense laughter I wanted to expell had to be constrained by sheer pain. The second time I saw it, free of abdominal pain, I was rolling on the floor in convulsive laughter. After ahwile, my friends like to rent this junker just to watch me histrionically laugh at the musical sequence. I hope this film gets a dvd release soon, just so the unbelievers can be taken immediately to the musical interlude. The rest of the film is meerly inept and boring. If all arounf badness is want you want in a film, stick to 'Robot Monster' or 'The Creeping Terror'. For three minutes of excruciating mirth, nothing can top the music sequence from 'Mistress of the Apes'
