Plot: Cat is attracted to Liam but fears commitment to a real relationship with him, due to her two selfish parents who basically abandoned her as a child for the sake of their acting careers. Also, she's just seen her uncle's marriage fall apart due to his infidelity. Cat offers Liam a totally sexual relationship, without any need to commit, and without really knowing anything about each other, even their last names or where they live (sort of ridiculous in this day & age but then this is a Harlequin Presents after all).
Liam is sexy and the attraction between him & Cat is well written. BUT, my main quibble with the plot would be that Sara Craven didn't make Cat strongly committed enough to the "no commitment" relationship. Cat begins to regret having forged this type of relationship with Liam practically from the very INSTANT of beginning it. The book would be stronger if the author had made her EVENTUALLY realize just what she was throwing away.
Another somewhat minor quibble is that we only get Cat's POV. The author lets us know by gentle hints that Liam is more interested in Cat than she realizes, but we don't get into his head. I prefer stories that show both POV's.
The plot device of having Cat thinking Liam is interested in her mother is a bit stupid, and a little yucky, actually, for my taste. But all in all, despite my quibbles, it's actually a well-paced, OK read, so I recommend it, with these provisos.
Fling? Another wedding, another hat... and more hours spent with a fixed smile plastered on her face. Until Cat meets Liam Hargreaves. The millionaire offers her one explosive, passionate encounter and Cat doesn't think twice. It's an experience she'll never forget...
But Liam isn't a man to accept half measures: he doesn't want Cat just for one night, but all of her, always. And like the ruthless tycoon that he is, he has a plan to make sure that happens: he'll keep Cat as his mistress for now-and she'll pay his price of marriage, later!
Do not let this description fool you as it did me. First off it only has her point of view. I always like to hear from both characters. If you're like me you like your females strong. Cat is the weakest one you'll ever read. I wish I had listened to the poor reviews. Cat and Liam share a wonderful night and in the morning she offers him an offer to keep a secret, no strings attached affair going. Then, when he turns it down falls into a small pity me mood. If I hadn't purchased it on my kindle I would have thrown this book out the window. She constantly goes on about it being just sex no emotions. But she had been feeling all these emotions from the beginning and still going after him knowing it wasn't what she wanted. I understand that's how a lot of these romance books are but this book was just awful. He didn't stay around or even try to get her to open up. Granted she didn't help at all and then had the nerve to get upset with him for going along with what she had wanted. She kept getting upset with him but wouldn't open up and the whole time I just wanted to slap her. so many things I couldn't stand about this book. I hope to save those who agree with me money here. I wish I had never bought this book or even heard of this author. If I didn't have to rate it, it would have been 0 stars. Even if it was free it wouldn't be worth it.

Commercial designer has instant mutual attraction with attractive hero whom she met at the conflict-filled wedding reception of her cousin's, minutes after she made a decision to only have no-strings-attached romantic relationship. His relentless pursuit of her led to a 1-night stand after which she sets the terms of their no-personal-involvement-except-for-sex r/s, which hero rejects at 1st b/c he wanted more with her. But days later he later accepts her terms with the condition that once she ends it then she'll never see him again. Heroine realizes at the start of their affair the negative consequences of her proposed arrangement but since she fears not ever having him in her life she continues their affair & increasingly despairs at her inability to know more about him & be involved in other parts of his life until the crisis moment comes, which involved someone heroine was close to.
Craven's books are typically a miss for me. So this one was a delightful surprise! Romance was good. Sexual tension & love scenes were hot. Craven wrote this book so well that I found myself increasingly tensing as the pages flew. I can readily feel the angst of the heroine. Although this was written in the heroine's POV, it was easy to discern the hero's emotions about their r/s. I liked the assertive & independent heroine who has major trust & commitment issues b/c of her parent's rocky r/s. It made sense that she would set the pace of her r/s with hero & later regret it as she becomes more emotionally vulnerable. I like the hero's wanting more from heroine than she was willing to offer but yet succumbing to her r/s terms if it means that's the only way he can be with her. My only beef (thus not a 5-star rating) with this book is the lack of discussion at the very end.Read more ›
