Emotionally Charged!,
This review is from: Mistress Memoirs (Peace In The Storm Publishing Presents) (Paperback)
Kahla Thompson has always played by the rules as far as her life has been concerned. She has a good career as a court reporter that allows her to get the finer things in life. Kahla's life is pretty good, but she longs to be married like so many of her friends. It also doesn't help that her biological clock is ticking louder with each passing day. The one thing that Kahla said she would never do was to get involved with a married man. This all changes when she meets a sexy and very married police officer name Kevin Eckhart. Kevin is everything that Kahla wants in a man, but he's not totally hers alone. Will Kahla settle for just half of a man?
Mistress Memoirs is an emotionally-charged novel by Lorraine Eliza. Eliza showed great creativity by showing how a normally straight-laced woman can find herself involved with a married man. You see the growth in Kahla's thinking as she realizes her own role in this affair and how this affects her as a person. This book puts a very different spin on the "other woman" story. The moral of this story is that the husband is not the only one to blame in an extra-marital affair and that the mistress needs to take responsibility for her own actions as well. Mistress Memoirs is a novel that gives you a unique look into a familiar storyline. Reviewed by Radiah Hubbert for Urban Reviews

Success is nothing without someone to share it with,

Upon receiving this book, I read the title and said to myself "not another mistress book." I had to wonder was this the same ole same gold digging woman who doesn't care who's man she lays down with. I had to wonder if this woman makes a living at breaking up happy homes.
I must say I pleasantly surprised to the element and twist Author Lorraine Elzia puts on this novel. We meet Kahla Thompson whom was raised in a two-parent household. Kahla's parents taught her to strive for nothing but the best and that she did. Kahla is independent, has her house, a great job, a luxury car and is single. Kahla can and does it all on her own but she starts to hear her biological clock ticking; it hits her she doesn't have a man to share her lonely cold bed with. When Kahla meets Kevin Eckhart she puts her girlfriends on the case only for the results to come back, he is married and Kahla does NOT do married men. Woman who do married men in Kahla eyes are uneducated "hood rats" with low self-esteem playthings for married men. Kevin finds a way to worm his way into her every being and what's meant to stay as a friendship takes a trouble turn into an affair. One Kahla tried to avoid at all cost but is just too weak. As I read on I start to see a human side to Kahla as she pulls no punches with her self into how she got into this love affair. Kahla is upfront and brutal honest with herself that in a way I was routing for her to come out on top, see for your self if she does or doesn't. The ending had me saying oh sh**, wow that is a twist I never saw coming. I also have to say I loved the poetry sprinkled in book they were so heart wrenching felt by myself and had me feeling for Kahla as it put more understanding in to why she stayed SiStar Tea ARC Book Club Inc. 5 star rating

Mistress Memoirs by Lorraine Elzia entices the reader from the very first page.
Lyrical words and beautiful descriptions are interwoven to paint the beautiful world of Kahla, as she struggles to understand her friendship and eventual love for a married man, Kevin Eckhart. He is police officer who exudes all of the enticement coincided with the image of a man in uniform. The initial attraction between the two characters is nonstop and bulges as the novel cleverly plays out. Set in Chicago, IL, we are introduced to Kahla , a beautiful and sassy professional who surrenders her friendship to a married man; this friendship, against her initial will, blossoms into more. She falls in love. The novel details this unorthodox tale of woo and passion while also engrossing the reader into the mind of a mistress. The whats, whys and hows of her thoughts are masterfully crafted in her Mistress Memoirs. The uniqueness of this novel is the addition of soulful original poetry that are sprinkled in...again enhancing the realism of the character of Kahla. Elzia has skillfully captured the essence of forbidden love while catapulting the reader into the realm of a mistress. Even paced story lines, intriguing interludes and steamy remnants are only the tip of the iceberg with this sultry fiction novel. My only regret is that I have to wait for the sequel (fingers crossed). 5/5 Stars

A look into the complex mind of a Mistress,

Umph, Umph, Umph. What a read. What am I raving about you ask? Mistress Memoirs by Lorraine Elzia. Okay, I really want to tell you about the book in its entirety, but I can't, because you really have to buy your own copy. What I will tell you is that from "Prelude to an Affair" to "Eye Candy" to "Bitter Sweet Pillow Talk" and all of the poetry so eloquently laced in between, Lorraine Elzia aka A Deeva put her foot in this one. This is not your typical mistress novel. There are no rump-shaking, video vixens out there stealing everyone's man. There's no untouchable, weave-wearing dimepiece making sweaty, monkey love to someone's husband. This is such a cleverly written, highly responsible novel, that gives you the how's and why's this woman became the mistress.
Lorraine's ability to weave a masterful tale with the use of catchy lines will draw you in like a moth to a flame. "Hey Beautiful, I was watching an interesting documentary on subliminal messages (Do Me Baby). The show said that sometimes (Do Me Baby) people put subliminal messages in the minds of others through regular conversation or even in emails. The show went on to say people do this so they can reach someone's subconscious thoughts (Do Me Baby, Do Me Baby, Do Me Baby). Can you believe someone would resort to such low tactics to make another person think about them? I'm so glad we met each other and that we are both (Do Me Baby) above tactics like that to try and persuade the other (Do Me Baby) to cross the line. Aren't you glad (Do Me Baby) we both are above that behavior? Happy thoughts, Kevin" Lorraine has just solidified her place as one of my favorite authors. I love her work and I believe you will to0. 5 stars!!!

Single Woman+Married Man:platonic relationship? Can it happen?,
This review is from: Mistress Memoirs (Peace In The Storm Publishing Presents) (Paperback)
Why do single women knowingly have an affair with a married man? Can a man and a woman maintain a platonic relationship? That has been an unanswered questions for centuries.
Kahla is a beautiful, smart good girl who has crossed over to the dark side? She follows all the rules for years...and yet...Mr. Right still has not come along. Kevin who is the the kind of man every woman dreams of (yet he's married)...eagerly seizes the opportunity and takes advantage of her vunerability. Is the forbidden love affair really worth the price? What in the world did Kevin say..even better...what did he do...hmmmm...it's not what you think.... Mistress Memoirs is an excellent book and totally unpredictable. There are a series of twists that you do not see coming. I read this book in less than two days...it is a total page turner with some incredible occurences. Bravo to Lorraine Eliza...amazing work...you have a fan.

Is lust the only prerequisite for infidelity? Read a memoir with a message!,

This review is from: Mistress Memoirs (Peace In The Storm Publishing Presents) (Paperback)
The question is asked -- What kind of woman becomes a mistress? African American Awards Show winner and new author Lorraine Elzia's latest offering centers around this query and is the angst of a woman in a relationship with a married man. `Mistress Memoirs' is an intriguing storyline that is a bigger part of real life where emotions, temptation and allowing the flesh to overpower better judgment becomes habitual. It's also about how two attractive people can get into a situation for the moment where remorse and due caution is not considered despite dismissing rules of temptation if such a thing is prevalent. It's easy if the main character is Kahla Thompson, a carefree woman with nothing but time aiding and abetting the penchant for being someone's mistress; and a relentless Kevin Eckhart, an adonis with charm and charisma. Who takes the blame for being in position to be exploited? How far can, and should one go for friendship to merit the boundaries of what's taboo? What really makes temptation such a problematic issue for a married man...and why become a mistress? Kahla answers these questions in a first person point of view in this engaging and introspective narrative. This is a unique book with a catchy title, a character-driven story that speaks through the author's voice for infidelity at its best, and a darn good read! This is the story of Kahla who realizes that she is in a place where she shouldn't be -- in the land of the `other woman' entangled with someone who's married.
The author did a superb job of weaving a fabric rich with insight and psychological whims shared by the `other woman', including throwing more light on how one can be caught up in where the flesh is weak and wanting. Kahla is willing against better judgment and struggles throughout to suppress her weakness for Kevin, but soon finds herself in a pickle with omniscience hovering in the midst hoping that she'd cease and desist! I loved this book for many reasons. First and foremost it was written as a true-life idealogical narrative as opposed to straight fiction weaving around a made up tale. It constantly reads as an engaging trek into the mind of a mistress. As an added treat, the author gives more of Kahla's mindset via visceral poetry after each chapter illustrating yet, another piece for dramatic effect. It's obvious why a woman becomes a mistress (in this story)which is clearly stated how visions of who the other woman really is as viewed from the standpoint of a woman struggling with mind, body and soul. What's the moral of this story? The moral of this story is that blame can be attributed to both when caution is allowed to escape without someone taking responsibility for his or her own actions to control emotions. Mistress Memoirs is a novel that gives you a unique and compelling look at how the lure of a carrot can be so inviting dfeelingsespite anything that would cause one not to err! Lorraine Elzia has arrived, and I hope that others share my excitement for the next offering from this up and coming storyteller. Find this book, read it and tell somebody else about it!

WOW, is a perfect description of this book!
Lorraine Elzia's writing reflects not only her talent but her wit and wisdom as well. (That Baby Phat line (pg 154) still has me cracking up!) Why does a woman settle for playing second string to wifey? In Mistress Memoirs Elzia offers many answers to this question. The story starts off as a game of cat and mouse and we all know who is going to win that tug of war. However, the ending was far from what I expected and I applaud the author on an electrifying and satisfying twist that left me saying, WHAT THE HELL? LOL but in a good way. Bravo Ms. Elzia on a well-written debut novel!

Kahla Thompson is blessed with beauty, a prosperous career as a court reporter, a beautiful home and luxurious vehicles; but is that enough for her? She desires to marry and raise a family, but there isn't a special man in her life
Chicago's finest, Kevin Eckhart, a tall, dark-skinned hunk of sexiness oozes charisma and a magnetic sense of being. The first time they meet each other is in the courthouse cafeteria and as their eyes focus on each other, the attraction is alluring. Kahla notices he isn't wearing a wedding ring or showing any sign of a tan line, which is a good omen, however, she needs to investigate him further. She enlists the aid of a friend who also works in the courthouse to explore more; unaware that he is also conducting a little exploring of his own. When Kahla discovers Kevin is married, there goes her hope for romantic bliss. She chooses not to undertake in the role of being a home-wrecker/mistress. They decide to become friends, but the relationship takes a sensual turn and Kahla converts into the mistress she tried so hard not to become. Touching and arousing, MISTRESS MEMOIRS is an expressive tale of art. Elzia breathes an electrifying, emotional energy into the personalities of Kahla and Kevin. The reader will step into Kahla's thoughts as she explains her role as a mistress. While I'm not a lover of poetry, the addition of stimulating poetry added before each chapter is a delightful opening of what lies ahead in the chapter and the plot thickens with a few unexpected twists. Although, there were quite a few editorial errors, which didn't deter me from the story, Elzia's debut novel, MISTRESS MEMOIRS is a moving story of self-discovery, love and accountability. Kahla has it all, beauty, success, and all that the world can offer. In the Mistress Memoirs she shares how she becomes a mistress to a handsome yet very married Kevin.
It's extraordinary how Kahla daydreamed about Kevin and found out about him being married and still wanted to mess with him. It's funny to see how women (me included) put ourselves in these positions. I didn't know how to take this book when it was first presented to me to review however after reading it, it really opened my eyes. I think the author did a wonderful job at expressing such an intriguing story from the mouth of the one committing the adultery knowingly. It really makes you reevaluate everything! There wasn't anything that I did not like about the book! Reviewed by: Nateche' [...] |
