I loved it ...,
By Robin (Mesa, Az USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: O, Mistress Mine (Paperback)
I have really enjoyed all of Sarah Aldridge's books. She has a very literate style that flows so very well. Her characters are evolved and almost uniformly fight for women's rights. In this book, the fight is on a college campus and a new professor, almost unknowingly and without conscience thought, gets into the middle by seducing then falling for an enigmatic young women.I've read just about everything she's written and I'm saddened to see she has died. But she's left a great body of work about women and the struggles lesbians have lived to create the 'now' we enjoy. Not perfect, but far better than the era her books generally discuss. Though not aware at that time, and in some books, I wasn't alive, everything she writes gives me insight and an appreciation for lesbians of that era. Her manner of writing about women loving women is very delicate and deeply loving. Aldridge's partner of over 50 years is still alive so consider purchasing a new book so the royalties will go to her. **Remember - if you want your favorite authors to keep writing they have to be able to earn a living doing it, so, if possible, buy the book NEW to provide the author with royalties. If you're not going to keep it in your collection put it in the recycle bin to make another book.** |
