Bad boys can be good,
By
This review is from: Mistress For A Month (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
For any woman who's ever loved a loser--knowing he was, yet unable to stop--the opening of this book is delightful. Amelia Weatherbee, the plain, practical, successful entrepreneur of a botique in Hawaii, has always loved Fletcher, an easy-going, laid-back, over-aged surfer looking for the endless summer. Only when Amelia finds him with two naked beach bunnies, does she have the courage to leave him.
She arrives in France to take title to the chateau left to her by her wealthy, widowed aunt, who'd married a count. Amelia meets Remy de Fournier, playboy extraordinaire, and the current comte who should have inherited the chateau. Still hurting from Fletcher's betrayal, she makes a deal with Remy. She will sell him the chateau if he makes her his mistress for a month and teaches her to be sexy, to which he agrees. But is Remy simply another Fletcher? Or will this playboy learn the real value of a woman's love? A very enjoyable read. Cynthia Breeding Historical romance author

French Fantasy,
This review is from: Mistress For A Month (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
Ann Major's latest book "Mistress For A Month" is great!!! Amelia Weatherbee inherits Remy de Fournier's family chateau. After an excitingly passionate night, Amelia agrees to sell the chateau back to notorious Remy only if she becomes his mistress for a month. Did Remy want just his inheritance or did he want more from Amelia? A French setting, a large inheritance, and the incredibly sexy Count Remy, what more could a reader want?

Sweet and enjoyable,

Amelia's aunt Tate has just died leaving her the château and vineyard she got from her late husband, a comte. So she has to fly to France to go through Tate's things and on the way she stops off in London to visit her sister who lives there. While in London she meets a sexy and mysterious stranger, Remy. Remy is really Tate's step son, the new comte, and his mother wants to get Remy to convince her to sell the château back to the family.
This is a sweet tale, about a loving and caring heroine healing her damaged hero. Remy struggles to do the right thing and is ashamed about his questionable past. Amelia is like a lightning rod, grounding all his negative emotions, while she tries desperately to convince Remy, and herself, she doesn't care anything about him beyond sex. The only reason I'm giving this book only 4 stars and not 5 is because the pacing is a bit off, the ending was rushed and slightly unfulfilling. Also just about half the book takes place from Amelia leaving Hawaii to her single night in London. The second half of the book takes place in France, and though it is easy to see they both care for each other, I thought Remy's realization of love and commitment came a little too quickly. Also I couldn't quite wrap my head around Remy's mother. She is the typical controlling mother with a nice girl all lined up to marry her son, but she also cared a great deal about "the family legacy." But the thing is, that legacy was the legacy of a man who divorced her. So if Remy's father had cared so much about keeping those family heirlooms in the family he never would have left those item's to Tate to begin with, and since Remy's mother was not a blood relation to the comte line it was odd she cared so much about family and tradition when it wasn't her family or her traditions. All in all this was a charming and sweet book, about love overcoming pain and grief. It's just a shame this author published with harlequin though, because this would have been a much stronger effort with even just 10 or 20 more pages to add to the second half, and also could have gotten a better title. The first have is wonderful and very charming. 4 stars.

well done,

This story by Ann Major is one of the best of the kind. The characters of the protagonists are beautifully developed, and their transformation as the story progresses is not a matter of empty words, but you can really feel it. I really enjoy a storytelling where you get to feel the characters through their actions rather than have the writer tell me what they are; when the later is the case I feel as I am being robbed from the opportunity to explore and reach the decision myself.
The story is not complex,in fact the back cover says it all. Yet it is eloquently told and I am glad I read it. I strongly recommend this book. |
