4.0 out of 5 stars The Mis-Fortune's Of A Mistress Game. (token), February 12, 2008
This review is from: Mistress of the Game (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
Three girls who go through terrible mishaps in life end up as orphans at a young age. Elise, Aparis, and LaKiesha all had goals and dreams as being teen girls, but instead they found themselves going through terrible mishaps and left without family. A bond was formed and 3 orphans became 3 hard go get sisters. An organization was formed and hustling on the mean streets of Cleveland became a way of life and survival was the key. Ruling was left to Elise the head of the organization that kept things together. From beat-downs, dealing with snitches, murders, and even falling in love, these 3 was unstoppable, and the game they played was by their rules only. If you dare go against them there was repercussions that would soon follow.

Thinking they had the world in their hands, no matter how hard they tried to forget the painful mishaps that orphned them wouldn't let them forget, and putting the past ghost away forever becomes their only way of escape.

Mistress Of The Game is a ride or die diva book. It forces one to look at their life and think anything can happen at anytime and change your life forever. Each character was well developed and one could easily identify with their misfortunes. I found myself applauding these diva's because they each had their own excuses for doing what they had to do to survive. At times I also found myself wishing there was more action. It was a very good book for this author's first novel and I would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beauty, Brains And Revenge, March 21, 2008
This review is from: Mistress of the Game (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
In Mistress of the Game, Sherrie Walker introduces readers to Elise, Aparis and LaKiesha, three teens who lost their parents through violence. Elise and LaKiesha became best friends at St. Henry's Orphanage. The orphanage proved to be far from loving and both girls were forced to grow up very quickly in order to survive. Aparis joined the trio after the death of her caretaker, Aunt Garnett.

All three girls were very different. Aparis was excellent with computer technology and games; LaKiesha was good in finances; and Elise, who was the brains of the operation, could read people's body language and she mastered the game of hustling. With the help of LaKiesha's brother, Que, the trio help established one of Cleveland's most lucrative drug cartels. After the death of Que, Elise took charge and the group grew. Elise decided it was time to get out while they were ahead. The group, however, did not anticipate dealing with the ghost of their past. Suddenly, the game becomes more deadly.

Mistress of the Game is a definite page-turner. When these three women set out to do something, it was done quickly and with little conversation. The reader will be able to relate with each woman, her struggle to survive and her reason for revenge. Walker also put a lot of emphasis on friendship and family. Only minor distraction was the author's description to every piece of clothing the characters wore. This was a wonderful story to read and I will definitely look forward to reading Walker's next book.

This review is from: Mistress of the Game (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
The author of this book is brilliant! She is so creative to the point that you can see yourself actually visualizing what's going on. I think the character Elise was a strong black female and was very intelligent. All I can say is I will definitely buy the next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Growing Up in the Game, March 4, 2008
This review is from: Mistress of the Game (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
Three young girls from different walks of life, orphaned at a young age, become inseperable after meeting in a children's home. Aparis, Elise, and LaKiesha endure many hurtful events while in the orphanage, but their bond remains strong, and the trio stands tall.

St. Henry's Orphanage proves to be a very dangerous and unpleasant environment, and the girls inside have no one to turn to. When the orphanage becomes too unbearable, Elise devises an escape plan that not only frees she and her two friends, but also comes with some payback.

On the outside, the three girls use their individual talents to survive on the streets. Playing the adult role at such a young age causes many obstacles for Aparis, Elise, and LaKiesha. Romantic relationships, the drug game, and trust of outsiders and family cause many problems with detrimental outcomes.

The most important aspect of MISTRESS OF THE GAME is the concentration on friendships. The strong bond between Aparis, Elise, and LaKiesha and the dramatic events that occur in their lives keep the reader engaged. Overall, Sherrie Walker did a good job with this story, and she has the talent to move forward with her writing career.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sherrie Did A Dang Of A Job, September 29, 2009
This review is from: Mistress of the Game (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
I have to say Sherrie is a great author she did her thang with this book I just couldn't put it down.

Elise, Aparis and Lakiesha find thereself becoming orphans and had to make it on there own. Elise was the one that found herself wanting more for all of them even if that meet selling drugs to do it.

Elise got into the drug business with her man Que, LaKiesha's brother. Later she find herself running the business as the leader of the crew. In the meantime she looking for Ghost that happened to be behind klling LaKiesha and Que's parents and also trying to not have a war with Sago the man she was getting her drugs from.

She found her sister Simore after so many years and got her out of the lifestyle she was living.

But, while Elise is trying to stay away from trouble trouble came finding its way into her life and Aparis and LaKiesha's as well.

As time goes Elise starts to fall inlove again with Trey, Que right hand man. Her there for Elise threw everything. Elise thinks postive about the drug game and turns her money into real business and gets out.

I have to say this book is good. It caught me by surprise with so much of the drama in here. These girls are bad to the bone at the begining when they was younger Aparis and LaKiesha wasn't that strong but, as time goes and they getting older they got stronger and did all they can to make it. Even with there friendship, sisterhood they didn't let anything brake them apart and that is what I liked about them.

Great book overall I have to give it to Sherrie Walker hope she writes more books cause I will totally buy her next books. :)great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book...With a puzzling ending.Hmmm, November 11, 2008

This review is from: Mistress of the Game (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
This book was a great read..And like everyone else I could not put it down and just had to know what happened next.But..The ending left me kind of puzzled. For instance,At the end when Elise gave birth to her lil boy,And the nurse came to get the baby in order to change his diaper,After she walked out with the baby,Lakeisha just stared at the door like something about the nurse was bothering her or like she knew her from somewhere,And Elise had to call her name twice to get her attention. What was that all about?..For a minute I thought the nurse was Trey's mother because he did state she was still alive.I dont know, something about that lil scene in the book kept bothering me like it was more to come/know.But the author never elaborated on that subject after that.
Then right before the book ended,(After Elise said a prayer) She closed her eyes..And then what? She died, went to sleep,What? It seems like there was more to this story than what we got which could open doors for a sequel.Overall this was a great read and highly recommended!Oh yeah,And for the record, Elise wasnt nothing to play with, she was my favorite character!

3.0 out of 5 stars Unbreakable Bond, October 29, 2008

This review is from: Mistress of the Game (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
Elise, LaKiesha, and Aparis would say that destiny was the unseen force that united them and made them the best of friends. After surviving horrific tragedies that tore their families apart, Elise, LaKiesha, and Aparis find solace in each other after being placed at St. Agnes' Orphanage. Although the orphanage was supposed to protect and shelter them, it did just the opposite and the girls knew they had to get out of there by any means necessary.

Elise masterminds a plan to bring in some quick money and soon her plan has everyone's pockets lined with cash as they delve deeper and deeper into Cleveland's merciless drug game. Elise isn't just an average money hungry young girl; she has goals that far surpass staying in "the life" forever and her street savvy wisdom is what won her the title, "Mistress of the Game". As Elise, LaKiesha, Aparis and their organization achieve their mission and everything seems perfect, the snakes of the past crawl from out of hiding and the girls soon discover that no one and nothing is what it seems. Will Elise, LaKiesha, and Aparis' friendship be strong enough to overcome the obstacles that face them or will the troubles that lie ahead destroy one of them or better yet, all of them???

'Mistress of The Game' was not what one would describe as a "page turner", although the story line was a bit interesting. The intensity of the plot occurred between the fourteenth and fifteenth chapters, while the beginning up until then left the reader bored and uninterested. The dialgoue of the characters lacked authenticity and "realness". The "unforseen" ending will be quite the surprise that makes it worth the journey. Recommended, but not highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mistress of the Game, August 26, 2008
This review is from: Mistress of the Game (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
First let me say that I met the author Sherrie Walker who is absolutely wonderful and down to earth. I met her at the Union Miles Community Festival this past August, 2008. Back to the review, I got the book so that I could have something to read when I went out of town the following week to Chicago. I started reading the book at the airport and could not put it down. At first my heart broke and I found myself crying then the next day I was reading it at lunch in a public place when I stumbled upon the chapter where Que and Elise became very familiar for the first time and I was soooo embarrassed:-), then I was in bed early reading the book when the blood shed proceeded and I felt the same excitement and fear that I did when I saw Scare Face.

This book has everything and when you think you figured it out your wrong, oh my I want to see this book on the big screen.
