4.0 out of 5 stars Not SACD but an excellent compilation
Contrary to what you read above, this is not a hybrid SACD but rather a regular CD set. I only bought this because it is advertized as a hybrid SACD set, so I was a tad disappointed to discover otherwise. That said, it is an excellent compilation spanning 1945-1955, arguably Garner's best period. You get the original 1954 Mercury recording of his signature song, "Misty",...

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Music but disappointing quality
I wanted to hear Earl hum the tunes as he play just as I remembered when I saw him live at a club in NYC. You have to listen intently to hear him. This sounds as if they took the original tapes and recorded them onto a CD without alteration. The tape hiss is very evident on high quality equipment. At this price I would have at least expected the tape hiss to be eliminated...

You get the original 1954 Mercury recording of his signature song, "Misty", as well as a good selection of his recordings for Savoy, Dial, Columbia and other labels. Included are his tracks with Charlie Parker and about half of his famous "Concert By The Sea" from September 1955. The remastering by Sanctuary is very good. If you only want a sampler of Garner's work, this is an excellent choice. If, like myself, you want a substantial collection of Erroll Garner, then you may wish to pass on this and buy his individual albums and/or label compilations.
