I hope I can reconcile the opposite extremes in the previous reviews. This device is a very simple mister or atomizer. If you ever been to botanic gardens that have a rainforest building than you've probably experienced what a Mr. Misty COULD do.

I hope I can reconcile the opposite extremes in the previous reviews. This device is a very simple mister or atomizer. If you ever been to botanic gardens that have a rainforest building than you've probably experienced what a Mr. Misty COULD do.

The humidity in my apartment is certainly higher for using it and I'm happy with it, but I've noticed that most of the moisture goes down the bathtub drain. I tried putting a fan in my bathroom doorway to blow the moisture out so it wouldn't go all down the drain, but I quickly discovered that a lot (and I mean a lot) of moisture was condensing on every bathroom surface: walls, floor, countertop, toilet paper roll, etc.

Naturally, if the Mr. Misty could be placed very high over a very open area so it could fully evaporate before condensing on the shower floor it would indeed give you the humidity of a rainforest. I've never seen a shower in a bathroom like that though, so you will find that the Mr. Misty will humidify a somewhat small area surrounding your bathroom. It works fine for my one-bedroom apartment but don't be surprised if a single Mr. Misty in one bathroom does not significantly humidify a large home throughout.

Perhaps needless to say, it is completely maintenance free, has no moving parts except for the open/close valve, and consumes no electricity and only the amount of water that can flow through it (which is nominal but may add up if run continuously -- I don't pay for water so I wouldn't know).

5.0 out of 5 stars This Product Works Extremely Well, December 18, 2003

I purchased this product around the holidays last year and have been extremely happy with it. It was a breeze to install and it saves me a ton of time from having to fill up my traditional humidifier every other day. It does make a minor hissing noise when the steam is let out. Also, be sure not to leave anything in your shower that you wouldn't want to be damp for a very extended period of time. I have definitely noticed that the static electricity during the dry winter months is much less. I am very happy with mine and am going to buy a second one as a gift. One thing that I noticed that may cut down on the effectiveness is if you have a vent in your bathroom that automatically sucks out air. You have to cover it up or shut it off to get the full effect of the humidity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Misty Works Great After a Little Tweak, February 7, 2005
By
This review is from: Mr. Misty Tankless Humidifier Shower Attachment (Health and Beauty)
We were looking for a humidifier that would be the most hands-off and low maintenance (no cleaning or refilling tank) and found Mr. Misty. Although the comments at Amazon ran the gamut from "didn't work" to "worked wonderfully," based on the latter we gave it a try. Our home is about 1200 square feet with a centrally located second bathroom. It has a full bath with a shower in it. By itself Mr. Misty caused drops of water on the rim of the bath tub and some on the floor. We closed the shower curtain until there was 12 inches of opening at the far end from the shower head and then pointed a small fan at that opening from 5 feet away. This works great. No more moisture on the floor. Our relative humidity went from around 30% without Mr. Misty to 45% with Mr. Misty. Also, we are able to lower the thermostat and still be comfortable because of more moisture in the air. Lowering the thermostat will lower heating bills and lower temperatures increase the relative humidity; two positive effects. From what I can determine on the Internet, ideal relative humidity is around 45%.

I like the concept of the Mr. Misty, and suffer from lots of static shock and dry everything here in the desert. So, I gave the he/she a chance, and then returned it a week or so later. I wasn't happy with how wet everything became in the bathroom area -- the ceiling and walls were damp, bathtub full of water droplets, and dampened carpet just outside the bathroom. On my 1600 square foot home, Mr. Misty had little to no chance of making improvements outside the master bedroom, it just created a very lopsided change in humidity. So, back to the retailer he/she went.

Those living in more humid parts of the country can do more than just imagine the things that grow in standing water...

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great!, September 9, 2004
This review is from: Mr. Misty Tankless Humidifier Shower Attachment (Health and Beauty)
Recently installed the product and it works great! I have seen a noticeable improvement in the moisture in my house and my skin feels so much better--in the hot in the summer and cold in the winter climate that I live in my skin gets pretty dry. Found it worked best when I positioned the nozzle pointing up and out. Never thought my shower would become a conversation piece...as it's kind of cool and unique, I'll be sending them out for Christmas gifts this year.

1.0 out of 5 stars Did not work well at all, January 5, 2004

We installed the product as instructed, ran it for 48 hours and checked the humidistat and found no change in the air humidity. It was disappointing, although a good idea too bad it does not do the job it promises.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Happy with Mr. Misty, February 10, 2005

My warm mist humidifier broke 2 weeks ago, and I was searching for a new humidifier, and luckly I found Mr. Misty.

I am a lazy person when it comes to house chores, and with my old humidifier, I had to refill the 2 gallon water tank every day, and I had to remove lime stone deposits with a knife and a little hammer every 3~4 weeks. and, it didn't humidify all of my house... it felt a little dry... And, it totally broke after 3 years of usage. Now with Mr. Misty, I don't have to do all that. also, I am surprised that Mr. Misty did raise the humidity all around my house. (1700 sqf with loft). and actually, it worked much better than my warm mist humidifier... My old humidifier pumped in about 2 gallons of water per day, and I think Mr. Misty is pumping out 4... I didn't measure it, but it feels more humid than before. RH is about 45 in my house.

Only problems I found are...

1. hissing noise: it kinda bugs me a little... it makes that sound during its operation; my bath tub focet is a kind that you can't control water flow amount; it always operates at full. maybe that the problem, not Mr. Misty.. I will work on that.

2. wet around bath tub: I close my shower curtain half way, and placed a towel next to the tub, and adjusted Mr. Misty a bit so that it heads inward. now it's ok!

It's a great concept and I don't have to refill, clean, and use electricity; I live in a town house, and i don't pay for the water usage

worked for a month then clogged up and is unuseable. great idea with poorly engineered parts - cheap plastic. Don't buy if you want it to last more than a couple of weeks.

2.0 out of 5 stars drippy, November 11, 2007

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mr. Misty Tankless Humidifier Shower Attachment (Health and Beauty)
Mr misty is mister drippy as far as using it in a tub shower. It makes heavy wet mist that soon has my floor very wet and slippery. I instead hooked it to my reverse osmosis water filter and installed it in the plenum of my gas forced air furnace. It works very well in that location because of the high air flow and the heat. One needs an electronic humidifier solenoid valve connected to the humidifier terminals of the furnace (and a water pipe)to make it work well. If your RO filter goes nova then you will get tell tale white dust everywhere. A good RO filter should last a few years though.
