Let me first say that I live in Phoenix and spend a lot of time outdoors. I've owned five different MistyMate products, and a couple of knock-offs. MistyMate's cheapest original products have performed better and lasted longer for me than the best knock-offs I've tried. The 16 Classic is an older model with lots of capacity to keep misting periodically all day even in the Phoenix heat, and the nozzle creates a wide, fine-particle spray that really cools well. The bottle and pump mechanism, and valve and misting nozzle, are well-constructed and have shown no signs of breaking. So the core of what it does is solid and does exactly what it should. The rest of it is not the best design though. The seals leak air (never water that I've seen), and having to open the zip cover to re-pump it every time it's sat for several minutes is a minor though definite annoyance. It also completely precludes putting it in a backpack and just having the hose tip stick out where it's useful. I think the cause of the problem is inherent in the way this model is designed; the lid tightens down with an O-ring between the lid and the rim of the pressure bottle. The pressure pushes the lid and therefore the O-ring up, so pressurizing it makes the seal looser rather than neutral or tighter like an internal or external O-ring that contacted the sides of surfaces would. (Many of their newer models do have O-rings that slide inside a tube to seal.) The clip to hold the hose to a convenient spot of clothing was never very effective either, and the snap that holds it to the hose only became looser with use, until it eventually fell off somewhere. It's a cheap little badge clip; I could get a replacement, but it doesn't seem that useful. Would I buy a MistyMate 16 again? For the price, misting power, and water capacity, yes. Could it have been better? Also yes.

Very effective for those really hot days. Though when the humidity is around 70% make sure to use cold water. Even helps to quickly cool the inside of the car if you are in a hurry.

This is a fabulous item. The resorvoir holds a great deal,of water and it lasted for a long time. The on/off switch is nice but a little hard to turn.

This is the one and ONLY mister to get that lasted me over a year and has gotten me through some pretty miserable heat in California at the airport where I work, using it every 10 seconds. All other cooling devices are inferior. However, the makers of this make me mad: they keep putting a rubber ring in that's too big that doesn't fit right. In the worst heat, I had to return this last one and suffer without it, not being sold in stores, and the new one that came was defective also with the same rubber ring that was too big. It slips off and doesn't seal. So I took the old ring from the previous MistyMate that broke (yes, I had another one that lasted a year, finally the plastic broke on it with the pressure I put on this thing), and then put that ring in the new one. If I never had one before, I would still get this MistyMate and go to some hardware store to get a rubber ring that fits, because of what a dream this unit is. I leave it pressurized all the time, except when refilling, which you shouldn't do, but I use it daily all summer long and don't have time to clean it out every night. It gets cleaned out when I fill it up each day. Even on the weekends I don't want to unpressurize it just to pressurize it up all over again Monday. That's too much work. So that is why I like this thing... it works with my lifestyle as best as possible and why I buy extra parts.

Also, the water hole starts tweaking and you get a flat squirt or unappealing stream instead of a fine mist when enough iron or minerals in the water build up and close off the opening, and in what seems like no time at all. Not the fault of the mister, but I can't always use distilled water and have to use what's near me.

Living in the South, it gets hot and humid. When I saw this item, I wasn't sure what to expect. The documentation was sparse. The package says it doesn't need batteries and I was not sure how it was going to work.

The principle by which it works is that it works by a pressurized chamber. The pump at the top increases pressure and pushes the water through a mister at the end of a silicone tube. The pressure is controlled by a stopcock. Essentially it functions like a chemical garden sprayer.

There is a clip that allows it to attach to clothing or strap. It holds 16 ounces of fluid. The reservoir or chamber is secured in a nylon bag with a strap. One flaw that I see is that the nylon bag doesn't allow pumping when it is zipped up. The pump has to be exposed for the piston to work. Maybe it was designed that way.

The more you pump, the higher the pressure. However, the pressure dissipates after a few minutes so you have to pump again. For sporting events, playing sports, gardening, shopping outdoors or picnics, this works well for staying cool.

Great invention. It works well enough for me.

This was purchased as a second unit for my growing family as I had such a good experience with my first "patent pending" misty mate. Well apparently after the patent was granted they cheaped out on these units. After less than two years the tubing of my new unit cracked near the connection to the bottle. This is repairable making the unit useless as water spews out from the crack. It was stored along side the older one in the same conditions, yet this one busted. Customer service at Misty Mate is terrible. Good luck getting anyone to answer a phone there. Don't waste your money and go to the dollar store and buy a spray bottle/fan device.
