Product Description

The 16 Classic is MistyMate's most popular portable mister. While still weighing less than 2lbs with water, it is convenient to use during both long and short term outdoor activities.

Let me first say that I live in Phoenix and spend a lot of time outdoors. I've owned five different MistyMate products, and a couple of knock-offs. MistyMate's cheapest original products have performed better and lasted longer for me than the best knock-offs I've tried. The 16 Classic is an older model with lots of capacity to keep misting periodically all day even in the Phoenix heat, and the nozzle creates a wide, fine-particle spray that really cools well. The bottle and pump mechanism, and valve and misting nozzle, are well-constructed and have shown no signs of breaking. So the core of what it does is solid and does exactly what it should. The rest of it is not the best design though. The seals leak air (never water that I've seen), and having to open the zip cover to re-pump it every time it's sat for several minutes is a minor though definite annoyance. It also completely precludes putting it in a backpack and just having the hose tip stick out where it's useful. I think the cause of the problem is inherent in the way this model is designed; the lid tightens down with an O-ring between the lid and the rim of the pressure bottle. The pressure pushes the lid and therefore the O-ring up, so pressurizing it makes the seal looser rather than neutral or tighter like an internal or external O-ring that contacted the sides of surfaces would. (Many of their newer models do have O-rings that slide inside a tube to seal.) The clip to hold the hose to a convenient spot of clothing was never very effective either, and the snap that holds it to the hose only became looser with use, until it eventually fell off somewhere. It's a cheap little badge clip; I could get a replacement, but it doesn't seem that useful. Would I buy a MistyMate 16 again? For the price, misting power, and water capacity, yes. Could it have been better? Also yes.

This is a fabulous item. The resorvoir holds a great deal,of water and it lasted for a long time. The on/off switch is nice but a little hard to turn.

Very effective for those really hot days. Though when the humidity is around 70% make sure to use cold water. Even helps to quickly cool the inside of the car if you are in a hurry.

This is the one and ONLY mister to get that lasted me over a year and has gotten me through some pretty miserable heat in California at the airport where I work, using it every 10 seconds. All other cooling devices are inferior. However, the makers of this make me mad: they keep putting a rubber ring in that's too big that doesn't fit right. In the worst heat, I had to return this last one and suffer without it, not being sold in stores, and the new one that came was defective also with the same rubber ring that was too big. It slips off and doesn't seal. So I took the old ring from the previous MistyMate that broke (yes, I had another one that lasted a year, finally the plastic broke on it with the pressure I put on this thing), and then put that ring in the new one. If I never had one before, I would still get this MistyMate and go to some hardware store to get a rubber ring that fits, because of what a dream this unit is. I leave it pressurized all the time, except when refilling, which you shouldn't do, but I use it daily all summer long and don't have time to clean it out every night. It gets cleaned out when I fill it up each day. Even on the weekends I don't want to unpressurize it just to pressurize it up all over again Monday. That's too much work. So that is why I like this thing... it works with my lifestyle as best as possible and why I buy extra parts.

Also, the water hole starts tweaking and you get a flat squirt or unappealing stream instead of a fine mist when enough iron or minerals in the water build up and close off the opening, and in what seems like no time at all. Not the fault of the mister, but I can't always use distilled water and have to use what's near me.

I ordered this item because I saw one at a water park recently and it was fantastic. it was 110deg and it felt wonderful to have the mist hit you. So when I got mine i opened it and tried it out but it wouldn't pressurize so I went to the manufactures web sight followed the trouble shooting steps with no resolution. I tried calling customer service for about 5 days then gave up. I am returning this item. MistyMate I believe is a good product to bad they can't back it up with at least a smidgen of customer service.

Wouldn't hold pressure due to malformed o-ring (went to hardware store for replacement) and the valve itself doesn't remain attached to hose. Would've returned it if it wasn't such an imposition to do so with a low value item. Knew someone who same item (same mfr) last year, and it seemed to be of much higher quality. Disappointed.

I remeber buying these a few years ago for $10, Still does the same good job of cooling the body through a fine mist spray, but we now have to do it at twice the price. Oh well - suck it up if you want an outdoor personal airconditioner..
