First rate melodic rock album, June 12, 2009
This review is from: Mitch Malloy (Audio CD)
Man, this is an amazing melodic rock album that came just a few years too late. Mitch Malloy is an incredible vocalist with a set of pipes that are just perfect for arena rock. The only problem is that by the time he released his 1992 self-titled debut, arena rock was already being shown the door by Nirvana and company.
That, of course, doesn't change the fact that this is a first rate AOR/melodic rock album along the same lines as the Brian Howe Bad Company albums, Alias, and Signal. You know the kind of soaring emotional love songs and upbeat rockers that seemed everywhere as the 80's were drawing to a close. Malloy could belt out those songs with the best of `em (he reminds me a lot of Europe's Joey Tempest) and he was a first class songwriter too. "Anything at All" and "Mirror, Mirror" are incredible singles, and the rest of the album is of a similar quality.
If you're an AOR fan, Mitch Malloy's debut is an absolute must-have album. The sad fact is, they just don't make `em like this anymore.

Definitely 4.5 stars, if not 5, September 29, 2010
This review is from: Mitch Malloy (Audio CD)
I'll be very honest, until about two weeks ago, I had no idea who Mitch Malloy even was. However, now that I have bought and listened to his debut album, I can't understand how I never heard of this guy. Simply put, his voice and songs are amazing.
Mitch Malloy's debut is almost a flawless album of melodic-rock music. I know the reason he never achieved successs is due in large part to the grunge invasion of the early 90's. That, however, is a tragedy. This album could have made Malloy a household name back in the day, but like so many other awesome bands, he was tossed aside for flannel-clad, alt-rock. Anything At All, Mission Of Love, Cowboy And The Ballerina, Over The Water and Nobody Wins In This War are all solid melodic-rock songs. The rest of the album shines as well, and I can't see fans of melodic-rock music not loving the album.
I can't say this for fact, but I had heard, that before Gary Cherone joined Van Halen, Mitch Malloy was Eddie Van Halen's choice for a replacement for Hagar. I often wondered why, and even who Malloy was. Rest assured, that will be the case no longer. Go buy this album right now and support awesome rock 'n' roll.

Amazing Voice, November 25, 2008
This review is from: Mitch Malloy (Audio CD)
Mitch has an amazing voice! He just recently played at Firefest in England and apparently still has it. Why he didn't make it big is beyond me. Strong voice and a big range. Great writing! Buy this now if you like melodic rock.
