Book Description

Mitchell Beazley Wine Guides May 1, 2003
Some of the most illustrious wines in the world come from Burgundy and Serena Sutcliffe provides professional insight into their complexities and diversity of flavours. The book provides information which should be of interest both to wine enthusiasts travelling to the region and those simply looking for advice on buying wines from this classic area. An introductory section examines the region and its wine, including the history, geography, wine-growing and winemaking techniques, and the classification system. Vintages from the last thirty years are described and advice is offered on which wines to keep. An A-Z listing by region of more than 600 Burgundy producers is cross-referenced to a detailed producer profile section that describes each of the five regions (Chablis, the Cote d'Or, Maconnais, the Cote Chalonnaise and Beaujolais) and the wine-growers and winemakers within them.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Good Quick Burgundy Reference Book, May 25, 2000
By
Raymond M. Anthony (New York, New York) - See all my reviews
In format, this book is not dissimilar to Parker's Burgundy or Coates' Cote d'Or (i.e., listings by appellation, listing by producer, etc.). It is nowhere near as comprehensive as either of the aforementioned works (both of which I highly recommend), however, it does not try to be. It does provide succinct overviews of the major districts and producers. Serena Sutcliffe, a Master of Wine, is very knowledgeable about her subject. It is worth buying the book just to get her perspective. The greatest negative about the book is the small type. This may be personal to me, but I read wine books for enjoyment, and I find that the very small type of this book diminishes that enjoyment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essental Burdundy Guide, September 23, 2005
This review is from: Mitchell Beazley Pocket Guide: Wines of Burgundy (Mitchell Beazley Wine Guides) (Hardcover)
A thorough review from A-Z with Burgundian wines and Domaines. Our recent visit would have been too haphazard without this guide.

There is simply no better guide to bring with you when traveling in Burgundy. It is pocket size and yet comprehensive. Other books maybe have great depth but they are suited for reading at home. This is the book that you bring with you and can satisfy the needs of the novice or the connisseur. Serena Sutcliffe is equal to any in her knowledge of Burgundy and you can not go wrong following her advice.
Make sure you get the 2005 edition as it has the latest vintage notes.
