Magnesium and CoQ10 can help,
By D. R. Schryer (Poquoson, VA United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome/Dysautonomia Survival Guide (Paperback)
My wife suffered from mitral valve prolapse for several years until we discovered the many healing benefits of appropriate nutrient supplementation. Now that we take chelated magnesium and coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) daily for heart health, her MVP symptoms have disappeared. Anyone wishing verification of the role of magnesium in mitigating the symptoms of mitral valve prolapse can find it discussed in Dr. Carolyn Dean's excellent book The Miracle of Magnesium. Another excellent book which also discusses the role of supplemental magnesium in relieving MVP is The Magnesium Factor by Dr. Mildred Seelig. Both of these books are available from Amazon at quite reasonable prices.

This book is my new "Bible",
By A Customer
This review is from: The Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome/Dysautonomia Survival Guide (Paperback)
This book talks about everything that other books do not talk about. Yes, "The Propalspe Personality". Another reviewer asked for "facts" unfortunately, MVPS has not been researched so there are very few small studies. If you have MVPS you will understand everything said in this book and finally you will understand that you are not crazy!

Miyral Valve Prolapse Syndrome/ Dysautonomia Survival Guide,
By Janet Wagner (Schaumburg,IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome/Dysautonomia Survival Guide (Paperback)
What a great book! This is a must read for anyone with the syndrome, or if they know anyone with it. It gives you wonderful insights on how to deal with Mitral Valve Prolapse. The chapters on nutrition, and medicine goes a long way on helping you understanding what you can do to give yourself a better quality of life. If you only read one book on this subject make sure this is the one. You will wonder why someone did not write a book like this before. What I really liked about this book is that it was written by people who deal with this syndrome on a daily basis since they have it.

Full of helpful ideas,
By Grace (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome/Dysautonomia Survival Guide (Paperback)
Unlike a few others, I found that there was some good concrete evidence in this book. I have found that the kind of evidence a researcher looks for is quite hard to find on the topic of Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome. The original writer and researcher in this field, Lyn Frederickson, wrote the first and definitive book on this topic back in 1988. I would disagree with another reviewer and say that Ms. Scordo's book (rather than leading the way) basically restates Ms. Frederickson's work while discounting the need for medication and relies totally on exercise , meditation and alternative therapies. This new book delves more deeply while crediting Ms. Frederickson and gives the latest information including biological, physical and medicational aspects of the syndrome. Although Ms.Frederickson's book is now out of print I think it only proper to give her the credit she deserves.

Speculation,
By Elaine Dodson (New Orleans) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome/Dysautonomia Survival Guide (Paperback)
As a psychologist who has MVPS, I was surprised by the comments about personalities. This is my area of expertise and research. To date there are no studies to support any particular personality with MVP. As the book states, chest pain can be fearful-that goes for anyone with any type of chest pain. Nothing new learned there. Authors have lots of speculation. Stories of others with MVP will help you learn that you are not alone. However, most other MVP books help with this. On a positive note, we can always use books on MVPS to increase the visibility of this syndrome. Only wish this was more medically based. I agree with a previous commentary that references are to a newsletter-not evidenced based medicine!

A Must Read,
By Janet Wagner (Schaumburg,IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome/Dysautonomia Survival Guide (Paperback)
This is a must read for anyone who has the syndrome, or knows someone with the syndrome. It is packed with great information to use when you suffer from this syndrome. It has very good stories written by people who have Mitral Valve Prolapse. It also helps the people that are around the ones who have MVP. I enjoyed the parts of this book that listed ways for you to cope better everyday of your life, and the medications you can take to have control of your life.

Great reassurance for people with this syndrome!,
By "gumbygirl" (Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome/Dysautonomia Survival Guide (Paperback)
Of course the psychologist reviewer who said the book is mostly speculation is correct. Until there is more research done on the syndrome there has to be a lot of speculation. However, the speculation is educated because the people who wrote the book either have the syndrome or have spoken with thousands of others who also have it. I found the book to be very reassuring about my condition. It also made me realize that someone needs to do much more research about MVPS.

Comfort book,
By Alice Teelen (Boston) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome/Dysautonomia Survival Guide (Paperback)
As a doctoral student formulating a dissertation on exercise and MVPS, I was excited to see another reference on MVPS. However, I was very disappointed with the lack of peer-reviewed references and very scant information on exercise. The majority of references in the book are to a newsletter and not scientific studies. However, the authors have done a nice job of presenting a "comfort book" and giving information from a patient's perspective. So if you're looking for a comfort book, then this is for you. However, if you are looking for a more scientifically based book, look elsewhere.

Not the best book on this subject,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome/Dysautonomia Survival Guide (Paperback)
Too much information on what the symptoms are and how it affects our lives. I already know that because I have been living with this for almost 6 years. So I then bought "Natural Therapies for Mitral Valve Prolapse" and got the information I wanted. It is a small booklet that gets right to the point on exactly what to do and the suggestions are working, so far.

Not too impressed,

I think Dr. Hoffman's book "natural therapies for MVPS" is a way better book. This book does, however fully explain what is going on with your body, but it doesn't give good advice on therapies. You can completely change they way you feel with Magnesium and your diet. Magnesium is HUGE!! and in this book they don't even mention it as a deficiency that MVPSers have. So trust me and buy dr. hoffman's book for only $4.00!
