5.0 out of 5 stars Mitre Max Ball is Best Bang for Buck
I have owned two of the Mitre Max Soccer balls for around 9 months. The Mitre Max is a Fifa Approved ball which is the highest FIFA rating. It is very atypical to find a ball of this quality anywhere near this price range.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Sizing
This would be a good ball if it was sized correctly. I says it is FIFA approved, but it is too small. It is definitely not a size 5. It is closer to a size 4.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mitre Max Ball is Best Bang for Buck, February 24, 2008
This review is from: Mitre Max Soccer Ball (Size 5) (Sports)
I have owned two of the Mitre Max Soccer balls for around 9 months. The Mitre Max is a Fifa Approved ball which is the highest FIFA rating. It is very atypical to find a ball of this quality anywhere near this price range.

Quality:
I use them once or twice a week as practice balls for shooting and various drills. Although the outer covering has become discolored from dirt, goal posts, minimal concrete exposure, etc. it remains true to form and the flight characteristics haven't changed with use. The ball also feels like a true Size 5 ball compared to the newer Adidas Teamgeist which is slightly smaller even though it is rated as a Size 5 as well.

MAXLOC3
Mitre claims that the ball has a special air locking feature which reduces air leaking out of the ball called MAXLOC3. If I compare how quickly my Adidas Teamgeist deflates compared to the Mitre it's true that the air stays in the Mitre Max a lot longer. However, if you use the ball regularly you'll need to pump it to the specified PSI before every practice or match anyway due to the minimal air loss that occurs with normal use.

Conclusion
I have used several very expensive balls from Adidas, Nike, Puma, and would easily choose the Mitre Max for training/practice/matches over the top range of the other brands. If you want to compare the Mitre Max to anything in this price range there is simply no equal for price or quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best deal around. Great ball!, May 17, 2008

Mitre makes the best soccer balls in the world. They do not have the marketing clout to compete with Adidas and Nike, and for that reason the company has become more and more marginalized over the past decade, but their soccer balls are still the best.

For a FIFA Approved ball, this is the best deal you will find; it is remarkable. This is a great ball, with top class performance characteristics. Some people complain that these Mitre Max balls are a little hard, so if you are sensitive to that then it may not be the right choice for you. Personally, I don't find them hard, and there is just no competition for these balls in the sub-$50 category at all. Highly reccomended to all soccer/football lovers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Ball, August 26, 2007

I had a lower grade mitre ball and purchased two of these for use in the rec league a play in--great ball, and very rugged, which is usually not the case for higher grade soccer balls.

Look for these and buy them if the fields you play on are not in good shape-- most other FIFA approved balls just won't hold up like these...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good example of when 'cheap' price doesn't mean cheap quality, March 6, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mitre Max Soccer Ball (Size 5) (Sports)
Even though this ball has FIFA approved mark (Highest Rating for a soccer ball) I was skeptical at first because of its relatively cheap price compared with other FIFA-A balls such as Nike/Adidas that goes anywhere from $[...] to $[...]

I was very glad when I received the ball because I knew that the ball was top-quality. It says it's recommended for all surface, not just on grass, and it means outer texture is very sturdy, which I agree.

Ball seems very hard at first kick, but it's very easy to get used to it.

Kick is very straight and the ball flies true.

Mitre balls are known to be very good quality and this ball is no exception. At $[...], it's a must-have ball for any soccer player/coach

5.0 out of 5 stars World Cup ball at an amature league price, July 31, 2008
This review is from: Mitre Max Soccer Ball (Size 5) (Sports)
Mitre Balls are difficult to find in the US. Which is a shame becuase they are, in my mind, superior to the other well known brands. It took me a while to find this ball on amazon.com, so if you got here too consider yourself lucky: this ball is simply an amazing bargain. Comparable balls cost three times as much. Durable, holds its shape, feels "true". Just get it already.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Quality very durable ball, October 27, 2010
This review is from: Mitre Max Soccer Ball (Size 5) (Sports)
I am a youth soccer coach, my teams practice year round and they have put the Mitre Max soccer balls through very hard use; two teams using the same balls for 2 years and yet they still are very playable. The only sign of age came when the balls were one year old. During one match on a very muddy field the mud removed some of the graphics from the balls. I have had many other balls from Nike and Adidas during the same time frame and those did not last more than 9 mos. under the same use and were never as good a ball. These balls are every bit as big as any other 5 ball they just need to be properly inflated, the diameter of the ball depends on how much air you put in them. Put in the right amount of air and you have a right sized ball. These balls have a latex bladder which in cold weather will save your feet from the pain of kicking a butyl bladder ball. After being kicked across the road many times, hit by cars, floating in ponds, etc. the covers on the balls are still intact. No fraying at the seams even if they are overinflated, no scuffs, no cuts, no rough wear marks like on adidas balls after 9mos. Using a soft ball like some Nike balls or an underinflated ball will allow your players or children to practice poor technique. I highly recommend these balls. I got introduced to these by a professional soccer player who said they were the best for the money, in my experience I agree.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Ball., June 30, 2009

I have to agree with everyone else. Bought one of these balls (good price), and it has been a joy to use. Now I'm stocking up with a second one so I'll have several quality balls to play and coach with. The ball is hard, but not more than any other ball, you're going to have to pay about twice as much to get a good ball with a bunch of padding.

After returning another ball, I gave this one a try and it didn't disappoint. I used it as the game ball for an indoor soccer game and it performed flawlessly - good feel, round, perfect!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Value, Good Quality, October 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mitre Max Soccer Ball (Size 5) (Sports)
I bought this soccer ball due to its high Amazon.com ratings and low price for a FIFA Approved soccer ball. I would agree with the Amazon consensus that this is a phenomenal soccer ball for under $40.

Other reviews have commented that the ball is on the harder side, and I would not disagree. Not hard enough to concern me, though, and I expect the ball will soften with use. I also suspect that I may have slightly overinflated the soccer ball.

One review claims this ball is not a full size 5, and closer to a size 4. I found this to be inaccurate. FIFA Approved size 5 soccer balls must have a circumference between 68.5 cm (26.969 inches) and 69.5 cm (27.362 inches). I measured my Mitre Max with a USB cable and a ruler and the result was approximately 27.5 inches. So, if anything, the ball is slightly too large for a FIFA Approved size 5 soccer ball (yet still within the range of a FIFA Inspected, one grade lower, size 5 soccer ball).

The only other soccer ball listed by Amazon that I considered purchasing was the Adidas Adipure NFHS Competition Ball. It is only a few dollars more and its lone review is very positive. Adidas tends to produce quality soccer gear, so while I'm sure my money would have been well spent there, I am very satisfied with my purchase of a Mitre Max soccer ball.
