I absolutely love this television. I did a lot of research, read many reviews and personally inspected several LCD televisions before deciding on the Mitsubishi Diamond Series LT-52246 52" LCD.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hummer with great help!
Purchased TV from Electronics Expo after researching LCD's for 3 months driving around and looking at the Sony XBR6, Samsung LN52A650 & 750, and Sharp Aquos. After ordering, it was delivered in a week on a Wednesday. That Saturday we unpacked it and installed it on a new TV stand, and within 5 minutes of turning it on, a "Humm" started. I changed outlets, satellite...

I absolutely love this television. I did a lot of research, read many reviews and personally inspected several LCD televisions before deciding on the Mitsubishi Diamond Series LT-52246 52" LCD.

PROS:
1) Absolutely beautiful picture.
2) Sharp looking; adds a wonderful décor to any room.
3) Full 52" screen, yet packaged in a smaller, very clean looking package that only takes up the space of a smaller 46" set because of the thin ¾" border around the actual screen.
4) Designs of the rear hook-ups are super easy to get too even while hanging on the wall and regardless of the plug types, nothing gets in the way.
5) The remote control has every important function that you'll need on a regular basis right at your finger tips. No hunting or scrolling through menus to find what you want to change or adjust.
6) This television has great powerful sound. When watching DVD's I run the sound through a really good AV system with Sub-Woofer, but when watching regular television programs, the factory installed sound offers surprisingly good highs and lows.
7) You can't beat Mitsubishi quality!
8) Arrived in about a week and was packaged to the hilt in protective packing material.

CONS:
1) None

SUMMARY:
After looking over several different brands, sizes and styles of LCD televisions, I had narrowed my decision down to the Mitsubishi Diamond LT-52246 52" and the Samsung LN52A750 52". What made me decide on the Mitsubishi were several things. Although both televisions have great pictures, the Samsung suffered from a sometimes bad reflection that would interfere with seeing the picture on a sunny day, the remote was a pain to operate and required a lot of fiddling to make simple changes and the border around the screen was 3" wide, making the television just too big in size. And although the Samsung was priced lower than the Mitsubishi by about $300 dollars, I read too many complaints concerning the poor customer service Samsung provided (or didn't provide). This is my forth Mitsubishi set and I've never experienced any problem with any of them!

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING Picture - See for Yourself, December 8, 2008
This review is from: Mitsubishi Diamond Series LT-52246 52-Inch 1080p LCD Flat Panel HDTV (Pearl Black) (Electronics)
I've not seen many reviews of this TV but checked it out because of Mitsibishi's long standing reputation as the best of the best. The retailer showed me this one next to the Samsung 650 that has been so highly reviewed and there's no comparison - Mitsibishi wins hands down! They don't even belong in the same room together. Don't let the lack of online reviews scare you off - see the difference for yourself and you won't be disappointed! It's a few hundred dollars more (MUCH more expensive online), but worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mitsubishi Diamond - the best LCD you never knew about !!!, January 17, 2009
This review is from: Mitsubishi Diamond Series LT-52246 52-Inch 1080p LCD Flat Panel HDTV (Pearl Black) (Electronics)
For 2008-9, this is Mitsubishi's top model, and the quality shows through. You can only get better if you spend 2 times more for the new LED backlit models. This TV has a 16 bit processor with a 10 bit color panel, the picture is gorgeous. Most other LCDs talk about contrast ratios and black levels. Those don't matter if the TV puts out a pixelated, washed out or dark picture, with uneven backlighting and a limited 8 bit color panel (99% of what's out there).
This TV costs a little more because it is a premium LCD. You'll think your eyes are fooling you, the photorealistic picture and the effect that 120hz smooth motion adds - it just can't be described in words. Blu-Rays movies pop right off the screen.

Even better, this 52" TV fits in the same space a 46 inch Sony or Samsung fits. Samsung's has a great picture, but let me down with its fat, red TOC border and overly reflective and glossy screen. So it was a definite no-go. The Sony XBR6 is non-reflective, but it only has a 12 bit processor, and I've read enough complaints about clouding issues and the "blurriness and artifacts" the 120hz processing creates (so folks turn it off!), and it's poor processing of PC signals.
With just a little calibration to your video source (easy to google recommended settings from avsforum), this TV becomes virtual reality. Highly recommended as the best if your budget has you comparing to other LCDs like the XBR6 and the Samsung LN-52A750.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best 52 inch LCT on the market, January 16, 2009
This review is from: Mitsubishi Diamond Series LT-52246 52-Inch 1080p LCD Flat Panel HDTV (Pearl Black) (Electronics)
Wow, what color, what sound, this TV has it all. I spent a lot of time researching TVs as I am a geek when it come to getting the best. This TV surpasses my every wish. It is simply beautiful, the colors are so vivid they pop out at you, the screen is dull (vs shinny)so that it does not reflect back to the viewer, the blacks are black, it is just the best I have ever seen. Watching NFL or college football in HD is stunning. I especially like the thin frame as I could fit into a smaller area, making the picture large but not the TV. Do not overlook this TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye-popping HiDef Picture, February 17, 2009
This review is from: Mitsubishi Diamond Series LT-52246 52-Inch 1080p LCD Flat Panel HDTV (Pearl Black) (Electronics)
I was very disappointed in Consumer Reports for not including this 52 inch LCD TV in their recently published review, because it beats all of those they listed. I absolutely love this TV. It has no negatives. I did a lot of shopping and comparing before buying this TV at the end of December. I had to pay a premium price in Alaska from a Mitsubishi dealer, but then I got free delivery and set-up and have local support and service (IF ever needed). This TV has an absolutely beautiful picture, with very true colors and deep blacks. With its very narrow bezel around the screen, its almost like looking at an infinity pool! Other 52 inch models from other makers look overweight by comparison. The sound quality is very good also. I only use our surround sound system for DVD and Blu-ray discs and sometimes not even for those. This is my third Mitsubishi TV, and all have been great. All are still going strong with nary a failure-indicative of Mitsubishi quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best LCD HDTV Update 11-11, May 9, 2009
This review is from: Mitsubishi Diamond Series LT-52246 52-Inch 1080p LCD Flat Panel HDTV (Pearl Black) (Electronics)
Mitsubishi Diamond Series LT-52246 52-Inch 1080p LCD Flat Panel HDTV (Pearl Black)

Mistubishi must have upset the HDTV world because it's next to impossible to find a review on this TV, or any Mitsu LCD for that matter. However, if you are in the market, please, do yourself a favor and check these out. I looked at the 2009 Samsung (rated the best) and a 2009 Sony and they both looked good, however, the picture doesn't make you say WOW! My Brother bought one of these 52 inch Mitsubishi Diamonds and every time we walk into his house we all say WOW!!! You just cannot believe the picture on this set, it's almost 3D! It's almost freaky good.

Anyway, this is toward the end of the model year and these are getting a bit hard to find... but they are truely the best HDTV's. I don't know why they are ignored in the media, but they are really the best!

Picked mine up from One Call, they were really great to deal with. The only negative was curbside delivery, but that just means you need a little help setting it up on the stand.

Update: 11/11 This TV was for my Father-in-Law, I peeked in his room this weekend and noticed a 3 inch wide line down the left side of the screen. I guess it had been there for about a month or so, not sure why he didn't mention it... After some research I found out that Mitsubishi had some problems with their LCD panels going out like this and they have extended the warranty on many of their sets. This TV is about 2.5 years old and I called Mitsubishi Customer Relations and it looks like they are going to take care of it. I need to get an authorized service rep in to check it out and then send them the results of the visit. They said they would have an answer for me in 48 hours. Hopefully they will replace the screen under warranty. They seemed really nice on the phone. Stay tuned...

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it, love it, love it, April 16, 2009
By
Disaster Dude (Trinity Alps, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mitsubishi Diamond Series LT-52246 52-Inch 1080p LCD Flat Panel HDTV (Pearl Black) (Electronics)
Before making this purchase, I did a lot of online research, and looked at countless different brands and models in stores. In most stores my reaction to the sets on display was something like "yeah, big picture, looks nice". When I first saw the Mitsubishi Diamond Vision sets, both 46- and 52-inch models made an instant impression. These were the pictures I was looking for all along, and are markedly better than the others I'd seen.

I've gathered lots of objective data, and in summary agree with one source that said simply that the entry-level Mitsubishi LCDs compete well against the top-end Sony and Samsung offerings. I'll avoid the temptation to recite the advantages of 16-bit versus 10-bit processors, 6-color versus 3-color processors and 120 Hz versus 60 Hz imaging, but those interested in the technical particulars should check them out.

In my living room, the only place that really matters to me, the set exceeds all of my expectations. The non-glare screen offers the first time in 20 years that my wife could watch a movie on a weekend afternoon without closing the drapes. The vividness of the images is fantastic, the motion remarkably smooth, the contrasts are sharp where they should be, while the nuanced variations in color are as subtle as can be. Those qualities combine to make images appear more natural and three-dimentional than I ever thought TV could.

Even after a month of ownership, the detail from a Blu-Ray disk or or other high quality HD source still occasionally takes us by surprise. While watching a movie we'd seen a few times before, I was amazed to be able to tell for the first time that one of the characters wasn't just wearing a green beret, but that it was a FELT beret, with its texture rendered in exquisite detail.

Setup was straightforward, and the default settings were generally good for us. Although there are many opportunities to customize the image to the viewer's own preferences, the only changes I made were to choose the "Bright" color temperature setting over the defauilt "Brilliant", then to dial down the backlight intensity to about 85% of its default setting so whites don't appear to glow. Many, if not all, sets now default to a "brilliant" setting that is instantly impressive to the eye, but unnatural. To my eye, getting the whites right makes the rest of the picture look right too.

In short, this family is one happy customer. Many online sources currently offer Mitsubishi at deep discounts, and Amazon's price included free delivery and setup. Those about to make the investment in a large LCD HDTV should try to get their eyes on one of these gems. None of us want to spend our hard-earned money on an ordinary set, then learn later that we could have afforded something special.

Even my 90-year old mother-in-law has announced that she'll be coming by often once the NFL season begins. In this case, that's a good thing. Depending on your own mother-in-law, your experience may differ.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great TV - UNBELEIVABLY GREAT purchase experience, April 8, 2009
This review is from: Mitsubishi Diamond Series LT-52246 52-Inch 1080p LCD Flat Panel HDTV (Pearl Black) (Electronics)
So my wife and I fianlly made the leap into HDTV after years of waiting on the sidelines. Did the usual extensive research and narrowed to a few of the highly-rated brands (Pioneer Elite, Samsung, Sony) but because we wanted the biggest possible screen size in the lift-mechanism bookcase we'd purcahse to hide the TV when not in use - we were drawn to Mitsibishi for their incredibly small bezel edge (max picture for the size of the TV box). Might not have let that drive the decision if I'd seen any bad reviews on picture quality but they were all positive - and now that I have it I can agree it is a really good picture. My neighbors who have a 61" JVC can't get over how much crisper it is than theirs... Anyhow - highly recommend the TV in every way - the cable card is IDEAL (eliminates any need for a cable box - at least with Comcast). I was able to easily move the card from the TV into my new HD Tivo box when it arrived. (Get the 150 hour HD model, BTW)

The story you need to hear though is how phenominal Amazon is -- I ordered the TV on a Wednesday at about 1pm -- knowing we'd be out of town that weekend it seemed ideal beacuse in the checkout process it said the estimated delivery date was the following Tuesday. But at about 10am the following morning I got a call from Pilot Air Freight asking if I wanted it delivered Friday (a day and a half after I ordered it!). I asked if we could push it to Monday - which was no problem for them. The delivery guys will even take the packing and box with them if you want them to (I opted to let them take it - a possible risk in the event of a return need but so far no issues).

Anyhow - I am SOOO glad I did not buy this TV at a retail place (Fry's would have been my choice) as I saved about $450 total between the selling price and sales tax -- plus I did not have to lug it home.

Don't hesitate to buy this TV and I suggest you do it through Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best lcd available, March 14, 2009
This review is from: Mitsubishi Diamond Series LT-52246 52-Inch 1080p LCD Flat Panel HDTV (Pearl Black) (Electronics)
I had Sharps best 46 inch 1080- the D 96 series.
I wanted to go larger and only had a 49 inch space slot to work with.
Narrowed it down to the Pioneer Plasma Kuro 50 inch and the Mitsubishi 52 inch LCD.
The fellow in our town that does my installation of all my AV gear said these were the 2 best.
Drove to a larger city to a place that had both on display.
The picture on both was unreal.
The Pioneer did put off a slight hum- was over a $ 1,000 more- and was a 50 inch screen- not 52.
Went back and chose the Mitsu Diamond 52 inch.
I have mt direct TV thru my Yamaha receiver into the Mitsu.
Everything is 1080 P.
The Picture is almost 3d---even better that what I had before---and I thought that was a great picture.
There is no delay when changing HD stations with Direct TV.
There is absolutely no noise---none.
The picture is beyond description.
The HD picture thru my antennae- for local HD---not running thru my receiver - so at 1080i----is also stunning...
A 52 inch tv in a 48 inch space- a great price- and the best picture you will find....make this the best LCD I could have bought...fantastic.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hummer with great help!, February 25, 2009
This review is from: Mitsubishi Diamond Series LT-52246 52-Inch 1080p LCD Flat Panel HDTV (Pearl Black) (Electronics)
I changed outlets, satellite connections, surge strips but the "Humm" would not go away. It is so annoying, I cannot watch the TV. I then contacted Electronics Expo, Richard, and his reply was "Contact the manufacturer. That's why it came with the manufacturers warranty." Then contacting Mitsubishi, I was told to contact the repairman in my area. He came out and agreed the "Humm" was very annoying and he needed to contact Mitsubishi. As he was leaving, his comments were, "Should have bought it locally, you could of had them replaced it. When you buy off the internet, you never get any support from the seller." He called back a couple of days later and said Mitsubishi wanted him to take it back to his shop and diagnose it further. I then called Mitsubishi and talked to Hazel and Chris for over a hour. Basically my TV will become a "Refurbished" unit when this story comes to an end. Oh yeah, Amazon.com told me to call Expo and ask for a discount, like that's gonna happen. I have tried to watch this TV and it has a beautiful picture, but that "Hum" has me at a loss. It has driven me out of my family room. This TV was to replace our 1994 50" Mitsubishi big screen and I was in the middle of changing my complete system to HD, including Blu-Ray, game console, and AV receiver. But now, I just don't know if purchasing from an internet company is worth the hassle. In this case, the savings has not been worth the hassle. We've even now gone to the local stores and checked for the "Hum". I guess I got a lemon. Well, after 7 weeks in the shop, it came back home. Local Mits rep replaced the power supply. The "Hum" is gone, but the TV doesn't work again. Wife watched it for 4 hours, turned it off, and it hasn't worked since. The morning after it came home, she went to turn it back on, it blinked twice, popped, and shutdown. Local reps been back and is ordering a new power supply. I am trying to get my money back now. I KNOW I have a LEMON.

When Mitsubishi sent me my "Sorry your having a problem" letter, in the header was my name and address, but the salutation was, "Dear John Hackett". Customer satisfaction ????????
