awesome hdtv,

Awesome tv! I was ready to purchase the Samsung 37". However, I was a bit put off by its shiny (i.e., distracting) high gloss frame. Then, I found that the Mitsubishi 40" was the same overall size as the Samsung 37" and the Mitsubishi's bezel is so small its almost invisible!
The Mits 40134 is definitely the way to go over the stripped down 40133. The 134 has dynamic contrast enhancement while the 133 does not. It also has "edge detail enhancement processing" which really does work. You can clearly see the difference even in the menu display while turning this feature on/off. Also, the 134's remote command feature provides 2, wired, InfraRed transmitters which allows the 134 to control other devices such as your cable box and DVD. I haven't yet used the 134's "TV Guide" capability so I can't comment on that. If you do get this set, I recommend that you switch it from the default "Brilliant" picture setting to "Normal".

Small bevel and excellent color!,

Although I had my mind on a SHARP, I purchased the Mitsuibishi as it was the largest screen nice that would fit into an Ethan Allen Armoire we have. The Mitsuibishi has a very thin bevel around the frame which means you can pack in more screen size into a limited space. The 40 inch Mitsuibishi cleared by a half inch - just perfect. This was the only 40 inch TV I could get for this furniture. Otherwise, I would of had to have gone with a 37 inch model.
At first I was nervous about the brand as all the advertising and press seems to go to the big three - LG, SAMSUNG, and SHARP. Consumer Reports has never even tested a Mitsuibishi LCD TV. Well, the color is just fabulous. Mitsuibishi claims 25% more color than standard HD-LCD TV's. The set-up was easy and intuitive. You can even program the TV when you want it to come one each day. We also enjoy the side panel which allows you to connect just about anything including a USB drive. Mitsuibishi included some built in slideshow software so that you can easily watch your photos automatically when you connect the thumb drive to the USB port. Why wife really was glad we ended up picking this one. It way cost slightly more than the big 3 brands, but were glad we bought it.

Loving This TV So Far,

I bought this TV recently and I haven't been able to stop talking about it. I looked at several TVs around this size and kept coming back to this particular model. The blacks are very deep and the contrast is crystal clear. HD sports, music, and science shows are absolutely engrossing now.
This model offers a wide variety of inputs (HDMI and component) and the system menu is very user friendly. Mitsubishi TVs feature a 'learning' remote control that seems a little complicated at first (and you don't have to use it at all). However, it's pretty cool and can turn on your receiver/cable box when you turn on the tv, pause your dvr when switching to a video game, etc. It took me a while to configure, but it's quite worth it. You can buy a TV this size for less, but go ahead and scratch up the money for one of these. I'm very, very glad that I did.

DON'T BUY IT,

Don't bother with this TV. Mitsubishi's support for its product is nothing short of pathetic. I purchased this TV last month, only to have a small horizontal blacked out line show up in the display within the first week or so of use. Following all of the warranty instructions, I called Mitsubishi. Their local service center picked it up, called me a week later and told me it could only be fixed if a new LCD panel were provided. I was told I had to call Mitsubishi myself. Upon being called, Mitsubishi's agent claimed that the LCD panel was not within the warranty -- even though the warranty itself has no such exclusion, but covers all parts and labor. So if you want a $1700 paperweight, this is the TV for you. Otherwise, stick with another manufacturer.

Great monitor,

Just picked up this monitor yesterday. Initial observations are that this is a really nice monitor. Clear, good color, even looks good with standard definition tv signals, can process full 1080p HD signals. My last Mitsubishi TV lasted 16 years without a hiccup (until it finally died), I'm hoping for a similar outcome with this TV. Compared it to Sony, Sharp, Philips, Visio (yuck), JVC, etc. Not the largest TV on the market, but one must consider how close you'll be sitting to the screen.

Received defective Tv from 6th ave electronics. Mitsubishi refused to accept swap. Mitsusbishi has the Tv for last 20 days and has no update on repairs. Buyer beware.

I own a larger Mitsubishi LT-46231 that is the best tv I ever had...so when I went shopping for a 40 inch for the bedroom at BestBuy I found they did not sell the LT-40134...I purchased a SonyV3000...what a nightmare...motion blur that was the worst I have ever seen ..auto dim..a feature to hide the clouding that plagues Sony sets...color I could never get right after tweaking non-stop for 3 weeks...I gave up and returned it to BestBuy...then I had an idea I called Paul's tv to see if they sold the LT-40134...they had one left...I got a great deal...when it was delivered I used the same settings that I used for my LT-46231...perfection....here are some of the features:
Lush beautiful natural color due to Perfect color and Perfect tint ...more color than the average set..I adjusted the color once and I am done...a sparkle in the HD that sets it apart...no clouds...no bands... Swivel base Built in TVguide for the cable input without the box easy setup it walks you through... 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs... A one inch bezel all the way around which fits into a smaller space with no screen space loss Both my Mitsubishi's put any other brand to shame...I have owned 4 HD sets...an LG which was awful...a Panasonic which ended up being too small...I now have found the sets I can brag about...I highly recommend this set..it's wonderful...

Update May, 2010: I had to return this TV for warranty service (just within the 1 year warranty) because of a row of dead pixels. They didn't give me any hassle about returning it though it took about 2 and a half months to get it back. Now, another year later, the screen has dimmed, with only a small section on the right-hand side still at the original brightness. Also, there are power problems; the TV just turns itself off occasionally and you sometimes have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to come back on. Conclusion: don't buy a Mitsubishi TV.
I bought this TV two months ago, and I'm very happy with it. The picture is excellent with HD programming (1080i and 720p,) and even with 480p inputs. As for analog signals, well, it's as good as I've seen, but you just have to accept that plain old TV will never look that good on a HDTV. I've also hooked the TV up to a Dell computer with a DVI to HDMI cable, and get a brilliant 1080p picture. The computer runs Vista Media Center using digital cable tuners with cable cards, and the picture is superb from this setup, much better than the component input picture from my Comcast cable box. The TV automatically recognizes most things you plug in, and sets up the input for you. I haven't used the universal remote features, as I have a Harmony remote, so I can't comment on those, but the remote seems reasonably easy to use. The menus are pretty easy to navigate, but if you linger too long in changing a setting the menu goes away; this can be a bit frustrating. The only negative I've seen so far is that I can see variations in the screen surface, like bands, but these only show up when there is sunlight reflecting off the screen. They're invisible at night, or when the sunlight isn't very bright. I also wish the TV had picture-in-picture (PIP,) but that's not a knock on what's in the TV as it is. The TV appealed to me as it needed to fit in an armoire that has a 37 inch platform. It just barely fits, but I got the maximum screen size I could fit in the armoire, so I'm happy. I'd have had to settle for a 37 inch screen otherwise. I'd definitely recommend the TV to anyone looking for a 40 inch LCD screen.
