4.0 out of 5 stars Mitsubishi 65833 review

4.0 out of 5 stars Mitsubishi 65833 review, October 3, 2007
This review is from: Mitsubishi WD-65833 65" Diamond Series 1080p rear-projection DLP HDTV (Electronics)
Mitsubishi WD-65833 65" Diamond Series 1080p rear-projection DLP HDTV
To start I must say it is a beautiful TV. Nicely finished and huge (cut out some cardboard to the size of the tv and put it were you intend to have the tv, before you buy it). I does have some flaws however. It makes a buzzing sound all the time while it is on it is loud and annoying and if you are going to connect anything other than HDMI dont bother it looks out of focus no matter what setting you put it on. Now if you do connect something HDMI you will be rewarded. It is the best DLP and only second of all tvs next to the pioneer elite pro 60" for $7000. I know the poineer is plasma, but wow the pic of both are awesome. I played VanHelsing on it(Mit) and up converted it to 1080i! What a picture. When VanHelsing is on his way to Transylvania and he is on the boat then going through the mountains the pictures are incredible looks like you can reach in and touch it. The tv is lite but sucks up a lot of juice its got a 185w lamp with a life of 2-5 years at about $200 or a little more. That is another downfall but for under $3000 you will be hard pressed to find a better tv. Even with its short comings as of right now I would buy it again in a heart beat plus they threw in a 5 year warranty for nothing. Buy this tv.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, January 20, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mitsubishi WD-65833 65" Diamond Series 1080p rear-projection DLP HDTV (Electronics)
I read quite a few reviews for this TV before purchasing it. I read many complaints about the sound of the fan, yet I am watching it right this second and I hear no sound at all and never have. When it is completely silent in the room, you can hear a slight hum, but that is it. So do not worry about that problem. Next, the picture is beyond belief. The colors are so brilliant, my jaw actually dropped the first time I turned on the set. (And I still shake my head in disbelief on how beautiful the clarity and color are.) Put in a blu-ray 1080p disk and you will think you are in heaven. Also, this is the only TV I could find with four HDMI inputs and two ieee1394 firewire ports. Therefore, do not have any worries about purchasing this TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, December 23, 2007
This review is from: Mitsubishi WD-65833 65" Diamond Series 1080p rear-projection DLP HDTV (Electronics)
After researching DLP HDTVs for a very long time, this was my verdict for the best 65" tv for the price. After receiving the tv and setting it up, altering the colors a bit and checking all connectivity with my Macbook Pro and Wii, I found that I made the right decision, a beautiful television.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome TV, March 13, 2008

I researched a lot of tv's before committing to the diamond series Mitsubishi wd 65833. I figured I did not need a thin tv as I was using a stand anyway to hold my other components so I went for the bigger picture with dlp technology. This set only has one competitor and that would be Sony's 60 inch sxbr rear projection set. My son has the Sony, and I bought the Mitsubishi. I have had no problems from day one (got the set early jan 08)The picture is the best I have ever seen on a tv this large. There was mention of a fan noise which I have yet to hear but I have worked in a factory for 33 years so the hearing ain't what it used to be. I would recomend this set to anyone looking for a great tv for not a lot of money. Get it soon so you can watch the Cardinals in grand style this summer!

I still can't believe this is a DLP, not an LCD on steroids!
We have had this for a few weeks, but just got HD cable last week. We have been very impressed with its image clarity and color richness. We also have a Samsung 46 inch lcd at 75 Hz,which has a very good picture, but I like the Mitsubishi's more. As a family, we now watch sports and dvd's on the Mitsubishi for the image quality. I must also note that both TV's are in rooms with a lot of natural light, and they are both quite good at maintaining image brightness.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty darn good!, January 24, 2008

This review is from: Mitsubishi WD-65833 65" Diamond Series 1080p rear-projection DLP HDTV (Electronics)
I upgraded from a Panasonic 50' LCD, that had an awesome picture. This one tops it by far. I did a lot of research before deciding on which TV I was going to purchase, comparing models, and the picture quality on this model was far above and beyond the competitors. This TV is also quiet. On the Panasonic I could hear the cooling fans while the TV was on. It never bothered me, but I can't hear a thing on this TV. It was made for High Definition. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the picture quality blurs a bit or is pretty grainy when you have less than a high definition signal. It can be modified some by the controls, and it's not annoying enough to give me a moment of regret in the purchase. I've hooked it up to an upconverting DVD player as well as a Blu-ray player (I know the Blu-ray also upconverts)and the picture from both on this TV are awesome! The screen is huge. I like how it doesn't have speakers on the side taking away some of the screen space. I would recommend this to anyone, it is so much fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great TV!!!!, July 12, 2009

I purchased this TV on-line over 18 months ago and I still love it! Unlike a couple other reviewers, I've NEVER had a mechanical issue nor does my TV make any buzzing noises. I researched bigscreen TVs at some local retailers before starting my on-line search. It was the feedback of the employees in the electronics dept. that made my decision to go with DLP, over plasma or LCD TVs. All of the employees in the dept owned DLP, specifically Mitsubishi. The addition of the 120 Hertz processor (inside the TV# makes a much bigger difference than you'd think, when comparing one without side by side. Rather than having to deal with an issue of pixel burnout or image fading, which is common to the plasma and LCD televisions as they age, the DLP TVs simply have a bulb #lamp# that burns out. A simple replacement of that bulb and the TV is back up and running with no diminishing quality to the picture AT ALL. The bulb can be purchased on-line. I searched for it by removing my TVs old bulb and casing first and doing a search on the Product Code printed on it. It is sold two ways, bulb only and bulb in a new casing. The old bulb #in its casing# slides out of the back of the tv by simply removing a few screws with a phillip's head screwdriver. If you opt to buy the bulb only, remove the old bulb from your existing casing and replace with the new bulb. We just had to do this with our TV. Mind you, our TV is running 12 hours a day, on average. We use the heck out of it. I paid under $140.00 for the bulb with UPS 2 Day #Blue Label# delivery included. I feel that is not bad at all to maintain picture perfect quality. Note: If you purchase the bulb in a new casing the price was at least double. Because of the DLP mirror technology, you really do not have any warning that the bulb #lamp) is going out. That would be the only downfall, unless you always had a backup bulb ready to switch out, but it is this same mirror technology that prevents diminishing picture quality. The TV is not able to be mounted but needing a place to store a DVD player, WI Game System, satellite receiver box, etc., why not place the TV on top of an entertainment stand containing these items? The TV is relatively light and only has a depth of like 14" so it still presents a sleek look. I saved a lot of money buying my TV on-line and have had a wonderful buying and viewing experience ever since! Great picture all the time!

After reviewing several rear projection TVs for months, I was down to two Mitsubishi and Samsung. I picked this Mitsubishi TV because of the size 65" and all the features it has. I delayed on purpose reviewing this TV so I can get to know and see how it performs. It has been more then a month and I can say that there are no disappointments with it yet.

This TV was awesome when we first got it. Beautiful picture. But, at first we were so enamored with the size and quality of the TV, we didn't notice the loud fan hum. With the normal hustle and bustle about our home it is no wonder. But, it seems to get louder the longer you leave it on. By the time we're turning it off at night it is quite loud. I hate to call a service person to fix it when we've had it for such a short time. I was hoping there would be a recall since now I'm reading this is such a big problem with these sets. The fan definately knocks this 5 star TV down to about a 2 star. Very disappointed.
