5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Magnificent.... I LOVE my Mitsubishi WD-73640!!!, October 4, 2011
This review is from: Mitsubishi WD-73640 73-Inch 1080p Projection TV (Electronics)
I can't say enough good things about this TV, I just LOVE it!! I didn't buy mine through Amazon, however, I am a dedicated customer and they get 98% of my business so I do feel compelled to share what I know, especially since as of right now, there is only 1 review for this magnificent item. I bought my Mitsubishi WD-73640 with the Pinnacle stand, the Logitech Keyboard with Google Revue and a Panasonic Blu-Ray player (with checkerboard output & 2-D up conversion ;}). It took me a little less than 30 minutes to assemble the stand. It's a great stand, heavy and sturdy, but enough of that!! My Mitsubishi is the BEST TV I've purchased to date and I've purchased several over the years. It gives a crisp clean, clear picture that is second to none. This truly is comparable to having a movie theater inside my living room!!! The 3-D is even BETTER than at the movies!! The speakers are awesome, not sure if I'll even need too add surround sound yet. It was 3-D ready directly out of the box, I didn't have to add any emitter or adapter. All you need is 3-D glasses and when you use active shutter DLP Link glasses, you don't need to buy anything else. My TV, Logitech Revue Google TV & my Panasonic Blu-Ray player (BDT-110) were ALL hooked up in less than 10 minutes. The Logitech keyboard and the Google revue are just priceless, I couldn't imagine not having them now that I do. This TV gets my highest recommendations (so does my Logitech Revue Google TV and Panasonic Blu-Ray player which I bought on Amazon)!

UPDATE October 6, 2011:

I just wanted to add that the colors that I see on my TV everyday are absolutely beautiful and very vivid! The action scenes are all extremely smooth and clear with absolutely NO pixelation or blurring occurring ever! We watch movie after movie after movie lol. Not many words to describe the 3-D experience.... YEP, it's THAT good!! No more theater, we're making full use of our home cinema and loving it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The definition of awesome, January 3, 2012
By
This review is from: Mitsubishi WD-73640 73-Inch 1080p Projection TV (Electronics)
So I was going back and forth on purchasing this TV. The price and size were in the yay column, the rumors of white dots, unreliability, and poor picture were all in the nay column.

So I went to my local electronics store to check one out for myself (good luck finding a store that carries them, they all try to push the super expensive slim models.)

Anyway, I went to the store, and while the store was clearly running an SD signal through the display, I was still impressed with the picture. I compared it directly to a 70' in Sharp Aquos display that I was also considering.

So, I pulled the trigger and purchased the Mitsubishi 73640.

Now, when it was delivered the box was damaged (I was thinking the worst - NOTE: Did not purchase on Amazon, so dont fault them for damaged box delivery,) but I got the item unboxed and inspected for damage and all was well.

I got the machine hooked up to a blu ray player, turned it on (it worked!,) and let me tell you, all I could say was WOW!

In my few days with the television, here is a list of what I have found:

Pros:

1. Display is beautiful, and gigantic. It is literally no different than being in a theater. In a natural setting, and after doing a little tweaking with avsforum's calibration disc, the picture looks photo realistic (not bright, gaudy, artificial, or pixelated as you see on many LCD tv's.)

2. Size. You cant hang this on a wall (I wouldnt anyway.) That being said, it really is not large, and it weights practically nothing compared to other models.

3. Sound is great. Very loud and clear. Decent bass. It wont replace a surround system, but it compares very nicely to my soundbar setup on another tv.

4. Price. One word. Unbeatable.

5. Viewing angles. I was expecting the worse here. However, for my purposes, the viewing angles are fine. You have to be sitting underneath the set, or way off to the side for display degradation to be present.

6. Gaming. I have been playing some battlefield 3 on the television, and there is NO INPUT LAG. This is always somewhat of an issue on LCD sets, but on this Mitsubishi it is not an issue AT ALL. My game has become markedly better since the upgrade.

7. Light and glare. I expected to have problems with daytime viewing in a lit room. I was wrong. The tv looks better at night in total darkness (what tv doesn't?,) but there really is no difference in the daytime between this and any other tv technology.

Cons:

1. I am prepared to replace the bulb for $100 or less every few years.

2. I find that it is a dust magnet for some reason. Every morning light dust accumulates in the same geometric area on the screen and around the bezel, in a very uniform pattern. Unusual, but not a big issue.

I really have put this television through the paces over the last few days, and coming from a 50" inch Panasonic Viera (Plasma,) I can say there is no competition between the two. The Mitsubishi wins hands down.

None of the things I was worried about from reading and researching have been an issue at all. Either Mitsubishi has come a long way in its current generation of TV sets, or other TV manufacturers are running a smear campaign against better technology.

This is the best TV I have purchased in my life, and I don't regret it at all. If I had purchased anything else, I would have been ripped off, that's how good this machine is.

If you are thinking about buying this, check one out, and do make the purchase, there is no comparably sized TV on the market that is going to compete with this at anywhere close to the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!!, November 15, 2011
This review is from: Mitsubishi WD-73640 73-Inch 1080p Projection TV (Electronics)
This TV is awesome. I was a little nervous at first but once I received the TV I was sooo happy I purchased it. It was EASY set up right out of the box and only took about 5 mins. The remote leaves a lot to be desired but I can solve that with a universal remote. I can not say enough how happy I am with this TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm Sold On DLP And Mitsubishi!, February 7, 2012
This review is from: Mitsubishi WD-73640 73-Inch 1080p Projection TV (Electronics)
This is my 3rd Mitsubishi big screen..1st was a 40" that lasted 15 years..2nd was a 50" 12 years old and still had beautiful picture when I gave it away!

I use an outdoor antenna (channel master #4228)I wish you could see the picture on this tv!! BEAUTIFUL!! I had the clerk hook up a pair of rabbit ears in the store and received 15 channels! That sold me! I'm 71 years of age and I have NO problem with the sound on this tv..I was dissapointed that my Sennheiser analog wireless phones are not supported by this tv..but we will be fine without them! I bought the Sony 3d blueray player bdps580 and the True Depth 3d glasses dlp..The 3d is FANTASTIC! All our regular dvd's just jump off the screen with this new player! Our tv plays on average 12 hours a day! We sit about 15 feet away..You can view from any angle and there is NO distortion..Even standing right in front of tv or on either side!! With the Blueray player you can access the internet-hula plus-vudu movies-netflix-all kinds of stuff! Be sure & buy the Pinnacle dlp tv stand..you will be glad you did!Its pretty easy to put together and It looks great! I believe you will buy DLP every time over Led & Plasma..If you set them side by side! I gave less for this 73"tv than I did the 50" 12 years ago! Would you believe $900 plus tax!? Don't forget your Trip Lite surge protector!

and the HDMI cable for your Blueray player..get a good one!

2-20-12 update I bought WORTHLESS digital to analog converter boxes that do NOT work with this TV! I do have a Tivo Premier hook into this TV and the R/L Audio jacks work just fine for my Sennheiser HDR120 analog headphones! Funny thing is, Mitsubishi Tech support has not a clue on this transaction! Do yourself a favor and use the 2d depth setting for viewing all your tv programing as well as standard and blueray dvds..GO to settings on the tv..go to 3d viewing down arror to put a check mark by 2d depth..Exit//

I can not say enough good things about this tv..It is just UNBELIEVEABLE!!!! PS I Also Have The ROKU.Com box hooked inline

4.0 out of 5 stars Huge, high-quality picture for the price!, February 6, 2012

This review is from: Mitsubishi WD-73640 73-Inch 1080p Projection TV (Electronics)
I purchased this TV for my father who's 15-year-old 60" rear-projection TV died. At first I was hesitant to go with a projection TV, but since my father had no interest in hanging his new TV on a wall, and had a large vacated area to put this TV, I decided the low cost to screen size ratio made this an ideal choice.

The picture looks really good and there were enough HDMI inputs (3) for his needs. However, there is only one component input, and it doubles as the only composite input as well. As such, I had to get creative since my father still wanted to be able to hook up his old VCR (composite) and non-HDMI DVD recorder (component). I ended up using the component input for the DVD player, and the coax input for the VCR. That worked fine for his needs, and he can still watch is old VHS tapes.

Overall, I'd recommend this TV to people who are looking for a large screen at a smaller price tag ... just remember that this TV takes up a lot of space!

2.0 out of 5 stars Decent TV , bad quality , bad cust. serv., January 15, 2012
This review is from: Mitsubishi WD-73640 73-Inch 1080p Projection TV (Electronics)
So here my story begins , i bought my WD73640 on september 27th 2011 ,

after reading reviews online i figured to give this tv a shot as i

was in the market for a new big screen.

It arrived on November 4th 2011,

After being on for only 45 min , vertical lines started appearing in the screen

an they were intermittent , after another hour orso they became permanent ,

i called customer service and they scheduled a tech to come out to my house

to look at the tv , 3 days later i had to call Mitsubishi back and remind

them of the problem (although they say they will call you back in 2

business days , i haven't gotten a call from them yet)

the tech came about a week later and had a part already with him ,

he replaced the main power board , and it didn't fix the problem ,

which i figured it wouldn't. so he then ordered a light engine from

mitsubishi , about a week later i called them back and i was told

that part was on back-order and that it would be 14 days before

they even got the part, thats when i got mad and they put a rush order

on the part , and it still took 7 days to get the part.

well all said and done , now we are fast forwarded to November 27th,

the part came in was installed and now i had a alignment issue with

the tv , it was leaning so bad , that when you tried to adjust it the

alignment got so bad that the 3D part wouldn't work any more ,

so i called mitsu back and again they called the service tech who

then ordered another light engine.

it was installed last week (january 7th 2012)

After being on for about an hour , my lines are back in

the screen so i guess im going to get another light engine.

moral of the story , the tv had a decent picture , but please be

aware that the light engine isn't one of high quality , and at

$ 628,14 for the part new and $330 for a reman. without adding

installation cost , if you have to replace these every time

your going to run into a very expensive tv.

personally im never buying ANYTHING branded Mitsubishi again ,

even if i get a something as a gift ill just burn it , it prolly

would be worth more as heat then it is as whatever it supposed

to do. I'm a pretty patient guy but after 4 months of me constantly

having to go after their problems im pretty much done with them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Fantasticly Awesome!, December 6, 2011
This review is from: Mitsubishi WD-73640 73-Inch 1080p Projection TV (Electronics)
Having spent several hours "messing" with the settings, i truly now have an awesome picture.

I purchased this on Black Friday from Best Buy for a stupid $699 deal that hadn't been seen before, or will ever be seen again.

Taking it out of the box and putting it on the temporary TV stand i noticed one thing, no way is this thing 90 pounds in weight (according to the spec sheet).

It is however every bit as big as i expected, and then some.

Plugging it in, connecting it via HDMI to my PS3 and throwing in AVATAR Bluray was initially disappointing, the colors were flat, brightness/contrast not very good, my heart skipped a beat.

I threw in the WOW Disney calibration bluray into my PS3 and went to work. Didnt work too well and i wouldnt recommend the Disney disk for projection TV's, but it did give me an idea of what to look for in changing the settings, and about 2 hours later an absolutely astounding 73 inch picture.

Watching Avatar was like watching it all over again, in IMAX :)

Next was Inception, oh boy.

The amount of settings options you have as a user, to tweak the picture to how you want it are astounding, even down to service level settings that are usually hidden from the typical user.

73 inches of absolute wonderfulness.

Anyone who knocks modern day projection, is an idiot.

if you have the space and want something big without having to spend $4000+ for it, this is your baby.

Or you could opt for the 82 inch....or maybe the 92 inch ? oh boy.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a GREAT TV...some confusion over accessories needed though, November 27, 2011

This review is from: Mitsubishi WD-73640 73-Inch 1080p Projection TV (Electronics)
I thought this tv 'included it all'...except glasses. I guess it does depending on what kind of glasses you get. I still need an emitter like this one:[...]because I bought the non-Mitsubishi rechargeable (via USB or wall outlet) 3D glasses. Cheaper and figure save a fortune on batteries. Glasses are here:[...] I haven't even changed picture setting much and don't have a newer receiver, but I was able to make this work VERY WELL with what I do have. HDMI from PS3 & DVR to TV. From TV to receiver with digital coax cable (which can carry full 5.1 surround info like HDMI). Watched Batman: The Dark Knight for my first blu-ray movie last night. It was AWESOME. Still waiting for my 3D emitter to arrive so I can watch some 3D movies. Took some playing with settings on PS3 / DVR to send the 3D signal so tv could receive it (not 100% automatic 'plug and play' for that).

12/26/11 - 3D UPDATE - received my 3d emitter a couple days ago - figured out how to sync it with the glasses and WOW - it looks great. So far only watched Thor in 3D...but have Avatar and about 8 others ready to watch now also. This tv is amazing!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Real sweet!!! BUT!!, November 26, 2011
This review is from: Mitsubishi WD-73640 73-Inch 1080p Projection TV (Electronics)
I just bought my Mitsubishi wd 73640 Yesterday,

I really like this Theatre!!!

Here's the BUT...... There is no audio out jack... well their it is, but it is only digital audio out.

I don't have a digital system....

The picture is crisp and clear, BUT it could have used some help with brightness.

The color is AWESOME and the onboard audio is marginal (I'm a sound tech).

I would have given this Theatre a 5 Star rating but I just don't think Mitsu really thought this thing out.

Did I mention the HUMONGUS screen is awesome!!!

So far haven't used the 3D.

Be aware that my set didn't come with glasses nor something called an emitter, then there is a signal convertor box which I really don't know if I will need so I ordered the glasses and emitter from Amazon.

I guess I'll have to buy the convertor separately if it won't work....

When I bought mine Walmart had a price match guarantee on so I got it for 999.99 usd.

I would but this again if I needed.

Be aware that there seems to be a projection lamp that may need replacement.... not sure what to think of this yet.
