From the Manufacturer

A Fully Immersive, Large Screen 3D Experience

Mitsubishi 3D DLP Home Cinema TVs deliver incredible picture performance at an exceptional value
All 2012 Mitsubishi 642 Series 3DTVs utilize the same core DLP® technology that power the vast majority of 3D Cinemas

With picture performance that outpaces today's smaller flat panels, Mitsubishi 642 Series 3D DLP Home Cinema TVs offer a larger than life, intensely vivid 2D and fully immersive 3D viewing experience. In huge 73" and 82" Class screen sizes, Mitsubishi 3D DLP Home Cinema TVs deliver incredible picture performance at an exceptional value, and completely define the large screen 3D entertainment category.

Live It Large!

With the world's largest 3D HDTV's for the home, Mitsubishi's 1080p DLP Home Cinema HDTV's offer many times the viewing area of smaller screen flat panel TV's. A 92" Class Mitsubishi Home Cinema HDTV has 4 times more picture than a 46" Class set. And DLP technology is up to 1,000 times faster than LCD technology--providing for a more realistic, sharper 2D and 3D viewing experience. Mitsubishi DLP Home Cinema HDTV's are simply the best option for enjoying 3D content in the home.

Brilliant, Colorful, Intense

With Blilliant, Bright, Natual and Game modes you'll always get the most from your Mitsubishi Home Cinema TV. Select Brilliant mode for daytime viewing in sunlit conditions, Natural mode for a true home theater experience or Game mode for fast pace gaming action from you PC or gaming console.

6 color Processing delivers accurate primary colors and a wider range of secondary colors
6 Color Processing delivers bright, intense color
6 Color Processing

Mitsubishi's 6 Color Processor takes color twice as far. Instead of standard RGB processing, 6 Color Processing splits the signal into red, green blue, cyan, yellow, and magenta, processing them all independently of each other. This more efficient way to process color creates more accurate primary colors, and a wider range of secondary colors. And because white is achieved by mixing all available colors, the 6 Color Processor delivers whiter whites than conventional 3 color systems. All without sacrificing picture brightness. Literally, billions of colors are possible in every frame.

A Film-like Picture with Smooth120Hz™ Sub-Frame Rate

Smooth120Hz™ Sub-Frame Rate makes fast-moving images appear smoother and more fluid, free from motion blur. It does this by doubling the traditional progressive scan frame rate and creates new frames of video between the traditional frames. The result is smoother moving images with no motion blur. And because DLP technology is up to 1,000 times faster than LCD technology, expect a razor sharp picture no matter how fast the action.

Arrived 1st week of June 2012. This TV is HUGE compared to most others I considered. I was worried it might not be bright enough during the day but... YES IT IS!!!

Color saturation is also much better than most LCD/LED TVs. Richer colors. Not completely flat - but close enough. Plus the price is much much lower than any flat screen this size (if you can find a flat screen this size, that is). Only Sharp (I believe) makes a flat screen near this big but you can see the individual pixels on that. I know because I checked at Best Buy. Once you get past 55" DLP is the only way to go.

The built in speakers aren't so good, as I expected. For watching movies you'll want a sound bar and sub woofer. Or hook it up to your old stereo via a D to A converter box. Oh, well, nothing is perfect.

But this is close.

All TV technologies have their drawbacks. Plasmas give you great contrast and accurate blacks, but have issues with burn-in, are extremely power hungry, and radiate tons of heat into your living space. LCDs (and LED LCDs) are thin and power efficient, but lack in contrast, producing a dull grey instead of a pure black in dark scenes. They also have issues with fast motion scenes, relying on frame super-sampling and other visual tricks to try and make up for it.

Once you get over the fact that DLP sets aren't thin and easily wall mountable, everything else about these Mitsubishi TVs is amazing. They produce STUNNING color, it will really blow you away with how vibrant and lifelike everything looks. The contrast and black levels will rival even the best plasma sets, like the Pioneer Kuro. Fast motion scenes look look clear and brilliantly smooth. The Plush 1080P upscaling chip does a really good job of upresing any lower resolution sources you plug in.

They are also using a matte screen now on the 42 and C12 series, so even in a brightly lit room there are few reflection issues and you get an excellent viewing angle.

If you're looking for the best bang for your TV budget buck, this is it. It gives anyone who spent 3-5x more for an LCD panel of the same size one heck of a run for their money!

This TV does have an outstand picture, one of the best 1080p pictures I have seen, as well as doing a terrific job with 3D images. Motion blur is virtually non existent from high quality sources such as blu ray (unlike many more expensive LCD and LED sets I have looked at that leave digital garbage all over the screen during fast movement), contrast, color and definition is superb, especially after some simple do it yourself calibration. The picture is as bright and vibrant as any flat panel on the market I have seen, including LED, even in brightly lit rooms. The picture on the tv is top notch, and worth more than the selling price. Built in speakers are fine, but nothing extraordinary, but with a TV like this most people will have a surround system.

There are a few drawbacks to consider, however. The TV is fragile - It took 2 attempts to get me the TV in one piece, and one attempt to get one without a defect. The casing is not very heavy duty, mostly a flimsy plasitic, which is surprising considering the delicate nature of the inside of the TV, (Giant mirror, Light Bulb, etc.) .

There are three points of concern to consider on this set in regards to the picture - and this is consistant across the line of tv's, as I have seen it on both of the working ones i have had, and the technicians at 2 different shops that sell them told me that the issue(s) exist on this entire line of TV's.
1. One issue is that when you watch letterbox movies (2.35 ratio) with the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, high contrast images WILL bleed and reflect into the bars and that can be distracting.

I love this tv. Things to consider before buying large DLP. Do you have a large enough room? Will you be sensitive to the Rainbow effect? For my tv I needed at least ten feet of distance from it. I was sensitive to the rainbow effect, but positioning the tv at a greater distance, turning the brightness down, leaving a light on in the room, or watching wide aspect ratio movies (with a black bar on the top and bottom of the screen) all seem to eliminate the effect.
This tv has a very good picture quality and is a much better choice than LCD if you plan on watching lower resolution content off the internet, or from a DVD. I have not yet tried HD content or 3D . This unit requires an infrared emiter and 3 D glasses sold seperately. The base of the tv is not as wide as the screen. The tv is not that heavy. I put mine on an average size wooden kitchen table.

Ok, I am changing my review as I am now having problems with this television. I bought this in Dec. 2012. Worked great until March 2013, at which time the picture got so dark I could not see anything anymore. I ordered a replacement lamp under warranty, and had it in by the end of the week. Worked great again. Now it is the end of April, and when I turned on my tv for the first time today, the green light came on but no picture. I went online to see about ordering another lamp, but the website says my tv does not qualify for another replacement. So I shelled out $140 to get the matching bulb for this tv, as the cheaper ones may not be the right brand/maker etc. I have it working again, but if it stops working I am going to apply for a refund.

When I looked at the first bulb after taking it out, I could see that the bottom of the middle piece that holds the filament was bulged out and black, right at the back of the bulb. The piece holding the filament in the middle also was bent over at an angle, causing the filament to be bent. So this was quite obvious that the bulb went bad.

But when I removed the replacement, I can see no problem with the bulb whatasoever. I put in the new bulb I paid for and it is working again, but who knows for how long. This is really ticking me off. If it happens again, I am going to just bite the bullet and buy an lcd to replace it. I will try to get my money back, as I am sure if it happens again it will be fairly soon and it should still be under warranty.

If they do not want it back, I will take it outside and destroy it in the most gratifyingly way possible, so I can at least get some of my aggression out on it. Its really driving me up the wall that something I paid so much for is being so much trouble.
