Book Description

May 9, 2008
In an open letter to Mitt Romney, Michael D. Moody, a former BYU classmate of the 2008 presidential contender, discusses the hypocrisies of Mormonism and delivers an insider's look at politics and the Church.Moody reveals the challenge in determining where Mormon hyperbole ends and hypocrisy begins. How outlandish is it, for example, that after early Mormons defended polygamy, contemporary Mormons crusade against nonstandard marriage in America? Although it's not out of character, Moody contends that in the grand tradition of lying for the Lord, Mormons have been untruthful about polygamy for decades. These hypocrisies relate directly to the conniving mind of Joseph Smith and the evil he incorporated into his cult.Millions of Mormon descendants are psychologically trapped in a multigenerational compound dating back to the very founding of Mormonism. Families are bitterly divided when some members escape over the emotional barbed wire but reach back to grasp the hands of those they love.As a contemporary war rages between those who know the "New Mormon History" and those who live in a programmed state of denial, only the dynamic leadership of a highly qualified, educated, and savvy man like Mitt Romney can free members from the Great American Cult.

This book is full of sharp, biting humor. An easy read, I couldn't put it down! It is an excellent book to read on Mormon history, practices, beliefs and doctrine. Especially informative for non-Mormons, the glossary of LDS terms in the back is very insightful. This book entertained me with it's an insider's viewpoint of the Mormon Church, and delivers facts with a dry, sarcastic humor. It discusses the real problems and concerns of mixing religion and politics in America. I recommend this book as a valuable read or tool for those interested in Mormonism, contempory politics, or religion. I found it fascinating how much Mormonism is not Christian, for example, according to Mormon teachings; polygamy is the eternal order of heaven. Women are supposedly still producing offspring in Mormon heaven, which for me as a female and a Protestant, would be Purgatory.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous book October 5, 2012
The author claims to be an insider on a religion he hasn't practiced in over 30 years. I am a Latter Day Saint (Mormon) and was given this book by a friend. First of let me state that I despise Mitt Romney and the fact that he has become one of the faces people attribute to Mormonism. This book was far from an objective look at the LDS faith as it was full of his own bias toward the religion. Not to mention his own slant on history and the facts surrounding it. If you want to know about Mormons, ask an actual Mormon. The religion is so seceretive that you have 30,000 missionaries literally dyeing to tell you all about it. Simply put, the book is the authors opinion mixed with half truths. If one really wants to learn about Mormonism this is not a good source. If mitt is elected it would be no different than a catholic who also has to listen to the pope. Also, it is church policy to remain politically neutral.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book! July 25, 2008
Really enjoyed reading this book and would highly recommend getting a copy. Especially if you are a person of faith and have heard a little about the Mormon church and were wondering what they really believe in.
I have many Moromon friends that I like and respect but just can't figure out why they never seem to talk much about certain parts of their history.
Mr. Moody is a credible author on this subject and should be given a lot of credit for being honest and taking a bold step to tell the truth.
