This review is from: Mittens and Hats for Yarn Lovers: Detailed Techniques for Knitting in the Round (Spiral-bound)
Mittens and Hats for Yarn Lovers: Detailed Techniques for Knitting in the Round is the latest knitting book to make its way this winter for knitting hats and mittens. It has some unique things going for it. There is a detailed section on hat basics and one on mitten basics that are a real plus for anyone knitting in the round. The instructions are step-by-step for a generic hat and mitten set. It even provides yardages needed for hats and mittens of different sizes. As a long-term hat knitter, I find their information accurate and very helpful for the beginner and intermediate knitter.
The first half of the book includes hat patterns are all basic and good for beginning knitters. The same is true for the mitten patterns. They are both in garter or stockinette stitch and don't change the basic template. The second half of the book begins to get a bit more creative with slip stitch patterns, cables, stripes, and other types of patterned hats or mittens. Each pattern walks you through to the end step by step. That is the beauty and the strength of this book, along with the how-to sections. There are some lovely patterns for babies that are adorable. If I were to buy my first hat book or if I were an inexperienced hat knitter and wanted something to refer to and use as a template, this is the perfect book.

This is a great book for learning how to knit in the round; the book is spiral bound so it lays flat. The patterns are easy to do but there are some that are challenging enough for the intermediate knitter. If you want to move beyond the basic scarf this may be the book for you. I loved the mix of patterns, there is a little something here for everyone.

Love the book. Easy to follow for every skill of knitter. I knit one of the hats for a baby and it was darling. The big plus is the direction are for more than one type of yarn. This is really a plus since one cannot always fine the correct yarn or may want to use one of our stash yarns. The guide to yarn combinations is very helpful. I am always surprised after knitting for years that I can find a treasure in this new book. I will suggest this to to new and old knitters since this has patterns for every level. Will make a nice gift for someone that wants to be knitting.

This book looks in detail at knitting in the round and the possibilities it opens up. The technique is fully explained. True, it is a useful way of knitting, but not one I have ever fallen in love with. 4 needles sticking into me is my idea of a mugging not a craft. I am a true English knitter and must have a needle tucked firmly under my right arm. This book has a huge plus - sizes of hats and mittens are worked out for you. All you need do is check your tension carefully. The patterns and yarns did not do it for me, unlike in Carri's previous book - Shawls and Scarves for Yarn Lovers, where the choice of yarns was excellent, I find this rather dull in choice of yarn and in pattern. It contains patterns for all the family. It looks like a much older book with 80's patterns that has been accepted on the strength of the first book's success.
