Overall, this a nice digitial caliper for the money. I did some research on digital calipers before buying, as there are a lot of cheap digital calipers available. However, reviewing the many inexpensive ones seemed to consistently show that many had problems with zeroing out reliably, and also the cheap models will continue to drain the battery even when they supposedly power themselves off. I read an article showing that the cheap calipers were still actually measuring while "off", but that the screen was just shut down. The Mitutoyo, while slightly more expensive, reportedly has a exceptionally longer battery life. While you do have to remember to turn the unit off manually, I have accidentally left it on overnight with no problems. I have had no problems with zeroing--the unit is quite repeatble.
In the future, I would probably purchase one with measuring capabilities to the 100th of a millimeter place, as I use mine for measuring diameter of gemstones. It would be nice to see units past the tenth of a mm place. If you need less accuracy than that, this is a great model to purchase. The plastic jaws are good for avoiding gemstone chips, and are molded slightly more square than the jaws of my manual dial caliper. Overall a nice buy.
