The mix cds are the best trance i have ever heard and club is much better. When you hear this cd, I am sure that it will become your favorite. Cd number 1 is incredible specially The Wave by Sosa. Cd number 2 includes great tracks like Brainchild. Buy this cd if you love trance and want to listen to something hot and better than any cd you have ever heard.

A Timeless Classic in a Genre that Grows Old Quickly !!, May 23, 2003
This review is from: Mix: Afterhours Mixed By David Padilla (Audio CD)
Padilla struck pure gold with "The Mix: Afterhours"....and let me just state for the record that really only the first cd is worth anything....but for that cd alone it is worth owning !! There are very few trance/house cd's that hold up after 6 months much less several years....this one does...plain and simple. CD 1 showcases the variety of great afterhours house, trance, melodic trance, and progressive (before there even was a progressive)!! In fact I would go so far to state that if this set was laid down tonight at your favorite club....you would still be talking about how amazing it was in years to come !! The mixing is airtight and captures Padilla in the booth with the lights down low and the volume way up....something he has never replicated on cd !! This is a magical moment in music and for those that love house, trance and progressive....I highly recommend it....giving it my trademark 5 lollie rating !! Standout songs include..."Truth", "Secrets", "Breathe in You....with the cool soundbit from a sexy phone sex operator" and "Special" !! This is sexy, dark and very danceable stuff....great for pre-game friday/saturday nights, night driving, and afterhours at your pad !!! Pick it up....you will not regret it!! One final note...the liner notes are a cool read and the pix really capture what The Mix was all about.....South Beach at its decadent best !!!

This is a great cd set if you like trance...., August 24, 1999
This review is from: Mix: Afterhours Mixed By David Padilla (Audio CD)
I really like trance with female vocals, so I found the first cd to be absolutely brilliant. The only song on it I don't like, is "Special" by Garbage, because it seems so out of place. Even though it's a dance mix, the vocals seem more out of a rock song. But other than that, the cd is just about perfect. Almost every song is great, but in particular, "The Truth", "Secrets", "Breathe In You", and "The Wave"
The second cd is not quite as good, but then again, the first cd is awfully hard to live up to. Still, there are some great tracks, particularly "Brainchild" and "La".
The mixing is well done, if a bit uninspired. The songs don't overlap much, but the change isn't that abrupt like most of Oakenfold's stuff.
One minor complaint. While it's a nice mix of trance, it seems like it leans heavily towards artists from the Netherlands. I don't generally like dutch trance, because it tends to be rather formulaic and cheesey. But with the exception of the tired and rather dreary 'Ayla', most of the tracks from the Netherlands are quite good. Still, even the best efforts of one of the Space Brothers couldn't save 'Ayla' - it's still a terrible song.
One more thing - the label (or the manufacturer) made a few errors on the song/artist listing. They spelled Qattara wrong (there should be no U, at least there isn't on the credits of the other songs of theirs I have on different cds), they reversed the artist and track names of 3 Drives on a Vinyl (the artist) and Greece 2000 (the song), and I believe they reversed part of the title on the song by Tekara. I think it should be "Breathe In You"...(that's how I've seen it on another album, and that fits the lyrics). I wouldn't be surprised if there are more.
