5.0 out of 5 stars The Mix Afterhours is the best trance ever!, December 9, 1999
This review is from: Mix: Afterhours Mixed By David Padilla (Audio CD)
The mix cds are the best trance i have ever heard and club is much better. When you hear this cd, I am sure that it will become your favorite. Cd number 1 is incredible specially The Wave by Sosa. Cd number 2 includes great tracks like Brainchild. Buy this cd if you love trance and want to listen to something hot and better than any cd you have ever heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Timeless Classic in a Genre that Grows Old Quickly !!, May 23, 2003
By
This review is from: Mix: Afterhours Mixed By David Padilla (Audio CD)
Padilla struck pure gold with "The Mix: Afterhours"....and let me just state for the record that really only the first cd is worth anything....but for that cd alone it is worth owning !! There are very few trance/house cd's that hold up after 6 months much less several years....this one does...plain and simple. CD 1 showcases the variety of great afterhours house, trance, melodic trance, and progressive (before there even was a progressive)!! In fact I would go so far to state that if this set was laid down tonight at your favorite club....you would still be talking about how amazing it was in years to come !! The mixing is airtight and captures Padilla in the booth with the lights down low and the volume way up....something he has never replicated on cd !! This is a magical moment in music and for those that love house, trance and progressive....I highly recommend it....giving it my trademark 5 lollie rating !! Standout songs include..."Truth", "Secrets", "Breathe in You....with the cool soundbit from a sexy phone sex operator" and "Special" !! This is sexy, dark and very danceable stuff....great for pre-game friday/saturday nights, night driving, and afterhours at your pad !!! Pick it up....you will not regret it!! One final note...the liner notes are a cool read and the pix really capture what The Mix was all about.....South Beach at its decadent best !!!

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a great cd set if you like trance...., August 24, 1999
This review is from: Mix: Afterhours Mixed By David Padilla (Audio CD)
I really like trance with female vocals, so I found the first cd to be absolutely brilliant. The only song on it I don't like, is "Special" by Garbage, because it seems so out of place. Even though it's a dance mix, the vocals seem more out of a rock song. But other than that, the cd is just about perfect. Almost every song is great, but in particular, "The Truth", "Secrets", "Breathe In You", and "The Wave"

The second cd is not quite as good, but then again, the first cd is awfully hard to live up to. Still, there are some great tracks, particularly "Brainchild" and "La".

The mixing is well done, if a bit uninspired. The songs don't overlap much, but the change isn't that abrupt like most of Oakenfold's stuff.

One minor complaint. While it's a nice mix of trance, it seems like it leans heavily towards artists from the Netherlands. I don't generally like dutch trance, because it tends to be rather formulaic and cheesey. But with the exception of the tired and rather dreary 'Ayla', most of the tracks from the Netherlands are quite good. Still, even the best efforts of one of the Space Brothers couldn't save 'Ayla' - it's still a terrible song.

One more thing - the label (or the manufacturer) made a few errors on the song/artist listing. They spelled Qattara wrong (there should be no U, at least there isn't on the credits of the other songs of theirs I have on different cds), they reversed the artist and track names of 3 Drives on a Vinyl (the artist) and Greece 2000 (the song), and I believe they reversed part of the title on the song by Tekara. I think it should be "Breathe In You"...(that's how I've seen it on another album, and that fits the lyrics). I wouldn't be surprised if there are more.

5.0 out of 5 stars A deep connection, February 28, 2006
By
This review is from: Mix: Afterhours Mixed By David Padilla (Audio CD)
Even now in 2006 this 2CD set still drives the heart of trance. This is my second purchase of the same CD (played it so many times) and the mix just gets better every time I hear it. Besides a humungous typo errors on the track listing, David Padilla flexes his muscle with a tracklist unbecomming of any Dj. You wouldn't know it unless you checked the track credits but Tijs Verwest (aka Dj Tiesto) appears in quite a few songs (Kamaya Painters/Allure/Control Freaks) not to mention Mauro Picotto. This mix is a chillout form of supreme Trance, it sets the lights low and let you just groove to the music. all the tracks flow really good together; it seems Padilla picked the riped ones --Fantastic mix 6 out of 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still some of the best trance around., October 1, 2000

I have been collecting trance compilations for about two years now. Even though this collection has been out for almost two years, it still ranks up there with the best. The tracks are perfectly arranged, and the selection is incredible! Padilla is Awesome at finding tracks that haven't been as played out as most on other compilations. If you like Kimball, Acosta, or the Euphoria series, then add this collection to yours. Also check out Padilla's live set from 538 in Amsterdam on the internet, and his new cd South Beach Experience coming out this month. Padilla is the Master!

This album comes very highly recommended! It keeps you feeling good and alive throughout both discs, much like the club. If The Mix is one of your favorites, I recommend DJ Voodoo's album Voodoo Nation!

David's cd is real good, Iv'e been to The Mix twice and the energy there is awsome. If you ever stop by Miami Beach go to Shadow Lounge and finish the rest of the night at The Mix, then you'll know what trance music is all about.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Time-less Mix...still the best I own!!!, November 10, 2006
This review is from: Mix: Afterhours Mixed By David Padilla (Audio CD)
This was the first mix tape I ever bought...and I must say 7 years later it remains the cream of the crop. This CD exemplifies a year in which Trance had its best mixes. David Padilla rocks...those of you know who went to see him at "The Mix" in Miami before its demise about 5 years ago.

Those of you lucky enough to have heard Padilla play will always remember this CD. For those of you new to the music scene that would like to give Trance a chance...BUY IT!!! If you love this CD, you more than likely like George Acosta who used to play side-by-side with Padilla (Check out Acosta's ALL RIGHTS RESERVED CD...just came out recently...its AWESOME!)

This review is from: Mix: Afterhours Mixed By David Padilla (Audio CD)
I originally bought this CD at a local retailer and enjoyed it... my friends and I would listen to this CD as we were driving to local Raves, just to get into the mood - My friends liked this set so much, they borrowed the cds, and let their friends borrow them, and so on - when I finally got the CD's back(over a year later) they were scratched and unable to salvage.... But now I own them again! A great mix if you're into trance mixes that you havent heard repeatedly on the net or at the rave - I highly recommend this double CD!
