A monotonous set by Rivera...,

This review is from: In the Mix (Audio CD)
Amazingly, this disc opens with a female vocalist covering the old Bobby Caldwell song "What You Won't Do For Love." This is a light, disco house track. That feel continues with more vocal on track 2. Track 3-5 are that dubby disco house Rivera is known for. Things slow down considerably with the odd vocal scatting in track 6. Track 7 is a horrible mix of a song that deserves a darker mix, like the one on Rivera's "68 beats" CD. Here, the aggressive diva vocals just don't sound right over a soft house beat. Track 8 is an uplifting funky female vocal track. Track 9 is a disco sax track. A bit of vocal sampling in track 10 gets annoying fast, as does the same situation in track 11. Rivera adds some catchy bass to his own mix on track 12, and even throws in some female vocal. Track 13 closes the set with repetitive beats and noises. Overall, this one has way too many tracks that slow down the flow, and even fans of Rivera's more disco oriented house are probably going to find this one lacking. Track times:
1. what you won't do for love (6:46) 2. The music (4:58) 3. Sax heaven (5:57) 4. Summer delight (5:34) 5. First the groove (5:16) 6. Five star (6:19) 7. Ain't gonna (4:26) 8. It's a feeling (6:23) 9. Deamoz (4:49) 10. It's midnight (5:31) 11. It's groovy baby (5:12) 12. Jungle boogie (5:26) 13. Monochrome train (5:31) |
