Whilst there are undoubtedly some good tracks on this album i don't really know how flex can call this a mix tape , there is no mixing or scratching like there was on his first 3 mix vol's. This is more like his last cd "the tunnel" which had tracks by flex with guest artists , well this is really what that was. All the tracks bar one were made for this cd and...

Funkamster Flex is back with another one. Although, I never bought any one of his volumes before this one, I decided to purchase this CD because I liked Funkmaster Flex and Big Kap's "The Tunnel". That CD was a mixed CD just like this one and it impressed me with the roster of rappers on the CD and how each of them made contributions, to make "The Tunnel" one of rap's best CDs of last year. On Volume 4, Funkmaster Flex brings us more of the same this time around. The 1st single, "Do You" features DMX and it's one of the best songs that DMX has put out in a while. Funkamster Flex has a little bit of everything on this CD: east coast rap, down south rap, as well as some r&b tracks as well. Jagged Edge shows up with a remix of "Did She Say" w/Lil Bow Wow, JD and Da Brat. This song is definitely tight. However, you know what the best thing about this CD is and that's the new tracks from your favorite rappers. Jadakiss of the LOX definitely has a hit on his hands with "I Don't Care". This track will definitely have fans wanting the Jadakiss solo CD ASAP. MOP also shows up with a remix of their smash "Ante Up" w/Busta Rhymes, Remy Martin, & Tephlon. The infamous Slim Shady, Eminem and D-12 show up with a tight song "Words Are Weapons". This song will have his fans awaiting the D-12 CD from Detroit's finest. My favorite two tracks on this CD are a Notorious BIG classic with DJ Mister Cee called "The Wickedest". This track sounds like it came straight from the Biggie archives but in the year 2000 is still sounds tight. My personal favorite on the whole CD has to be "What Son What" from Capone N Noreaga. The track is produced by Swizz Beats and has the group from Queens at their finest. Anyone that likes hip hop as much as I do will enjoy this CD. Funkmaster Flex and company did a good job putting this CD together.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONLY: 30 MINUTES OF TRUE FUNK, February 25, 2001

I thought half of the songs were hot but the others were pretty whack. Songs from DMX, Shyne, and Eminem brought the automatic hits. The track from Naughty was phat, and the Nelly and Drag On songs were surprisingly good. And Lil Kim and Ginuwine brought some different vibes. The final joint on the CD made a good final impression with Fabolous rippin up a freestyle. But like I said only half of it was good. The other half belonging to JadaKiss, MOP, and Saukratese could be left at the studio. Best song on the album: Ludakris, Block Lock Down. The good half of the CD is enough to pay back for the bad side.

All the tracks bar one were made for this cd and feature flex himself. That said if you are just interested in the tracks then there are some good efforts here , mainly the single do you and ante up with busta rhymes. Also worth a mention are the tracks by eminem and faith evans. The album does tail off badly towards the end with some mediocre tracks but there should be enough on here to please most people , but just do'nt expect any mixing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Mix Yet!, December 9, 2000

This new one from the Dj of Funk is no less than 5 stars. I wasent sure how good this cd was going to be going off the strength of "Do U" from Dmx. After the first listen I was hooked. There is at least 10 tracks on here for everybody no matter what type of hip-hop you like. This is a mix tape but the good thing with this is that most of the tracks are actually brand new tracks instead of just samples or a mix of a different song. A lot of people will be suprised with this. The track from ginuwine is another good one. Overall Flex branched out on what he did on The tunnell and came up with another banging cd.

get it!

2.0 out of 5 stars CAN I GO BACK TO THE TUNNEL??, April 7, 2005

This album is more like a mixtape than any of Flex's other efforts. I usually dont like mixtapes. Its impossible to get the best artists to give up quality tracks that you know they need for thier own albums. by this time, dj clue is annoying everybody with the shout outs in the background so thank goodness flex is better than that. other than a few songs mentioned by dmx, jadakiss and faith i found no reason to play this album over again. this prompts me to ask, Can we go back to the tunnel?? That has some of the best representation of 99-00 hip hop anywhere!

Funkmaster Flex is the best rap/hip hop dj out there. and here he delivers his best album yet. on this one he has rap all stars such as dmx, eminem, ludacris, ja rule and many more... but also other rappers such as lil bow wow and drag-on bring out thier best. i dont really like lil bow wow or jermain dupri but on this cd funk flex makes them sound good, and he does the same for many other rappers

the bottom line is you should cop this album cus its the best rap mix out there!

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterful as usual!!, July 24, 2001

I do not think Funkmaster has released a bad album. I am not going to critique each song but, numbers 2, 9, and 21 are by far my favorite. DMX, Eminem and Ludacris make up the highlight on this disc. However, this CD features just about every major rap artist out there today.

If you even like rap a little bit, this album is a plethora of differnet flava to take in and digest. A must for hardcore addicts. If you just like Eminem or DMX you might not enjoy the rest of the disc, but their snippets are by far the best on here. Eminem's song is very dark for the Pop music station crowd that has embraced him and may not be well received by his fair weather fans.

5 stars for a 5 star album. Funkmaster is a true genius with music. Believe it!

Opening the cd and hearing that Dr Dre beat let me know this is some tight sh@t. Dmx and MOP are okay. The bright spots are Nature, Nelly, Shyne, Saukrates, Lady Luck and CNN. Nature flows over a tight beat. Eminem and D-12 has me waiting for their Cd to drop. Jadakiss has it lock for his Cd to drop. So cop this right cha. You heard. one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent "mixtape" from Flex - maybe 3.5 stars, December 23, 2004
By
This review is from: The Mix Tape, Vol. 4: 60 Minutes of Funk (Audio CD)
Funkmaster Flex is back on the boards again to bring another "mixtape". This is more of a compilation album, he doesn't send out shouts over the songs that much (which actually is good) but there are not many freestyles that are common on mixtapes, just a lot of 2 verse songs and a few R&B ones as well. Not as good as Vol. 2 though and about equal w/ Vol. 3 ( I never heard Vol. 1). It has no classic songs but 2 classic freestyles, and out of the 23 "songs" there's 7 or 8 I skip. Overall it is a pretty good album though and fans of east coast rap should get a copy.

#2 - 9.5 (DMX -- great song)
#3 - 9 (Jadakiss)
#4 - 5 (Ginuwine)
#5 - 8.5 (good one from Nelly)
#6 - 10 (classic freestyle by Notorious B.I.G. {R.I.P.} -- long intro before the song)
#8 - 8 (M.O.P., Remy Martin, Teflon, Busta Rhymes -- not as good as the original version on their "Warriorz" classic cd)
#9 - 8 (Eminem, Bizarre & Swifty of D12)
#10 - 8 (Nature)
#11 - 8 (Drag-On)
#13 - 6 (mix of In Essence)
#14 - 5 (faith evans)
#15 - 7 (jagged edge, lil bow wow, da brat, jermaine dupri)
#16 - 5 (lil kim)
#17 - 8 (Capone N Noreaga)
#18 - 9 (Ja Rule, Caddillac tah, black child, 0-1, charli baltimore)
#19 - 6 (the bad seed)
#20 - 6 (shyne)
#21 - 9 (ludacris & infamous 20 -- also on one of Luda's albums)
#22 - 5 (Three-6 mafia & project pat)
#23 - 8 (Da Franchise)
#24 - 6 (saukrates -- also on Method Man & Redman's "How High" sndtk)
#25 - 5 (lady luck)
#26 - 10 (classic freestyle by" Fabolous)
