Mixed Live is a series from Moonshine Music featuring prominent DJs and electronic artists mixing live around the world. As part of the Mixed Live series, Moonshine delivers two discs: a standard CD and a DVD featuring a mini-documentary on the featured artist, a slideshow from the event, and a 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound version of the mix. Notables in this series include Carl Cox, AK1200, GusGus, and Tall Paul. Suffice to say, you've got to bring credentials to be featured. DJ Dan has credentials.

DJ Dan knows well that groove is often determined by what you don't play rather than what you do play. In this 72-minute mix, he switches up dynamics by pulling the drums out and letting the arpeggios and bass lines carry the load. When the drums come back, they rejuvenate the piece. If you've ever listened to someone spin hours of a four-on-the-floor drum line with no breaks, you learn to appreciate the shift in dynamics.

DJ Dan also has an awareness of where the mix has been and where it is going. This set opens with "Ya Underwear" from Seamus Haji presents Get This! - a bouncy number with Latin percussion. He then pulls it back a little with "Chunk A Funk" from Dave Armstrong & DJ D.L.G. before starting a long slow build through numbers by Laurent Konrad, Alex Peace, and Joey Beltram. By the time he closes with "U Turn Me On" by 2 Guys With T!ts, we feel the whole mix coming to a climax. It's not an easy feat to accomplish over 70 minutes; DJ Dan makes it seem effortless.

As America's top touring DJ, DJ Dan has become nearly synonymous with house music. One spin of this disc and you'll understand why.

This mix is much more representative of his live sets than some of his studio mixes. What separates DJ Dan from the other house DJ's is that he doesn't play the obvious house tracks/labels that circulate the house charts. Instead, DJ Dan distinguishes his sound by throwing down high powered tracks with catchy hooks which are often produced by the lesser-knowns. Furthermore, he's got a great feel for keeping the energy level up without going over the deep end.

I was at Ruby Skye when he recorded the session. The DVD's features, which include live footage and a slide show of photos taken from the event, captured the atmosphere of the event and brought back a lot of great memories for me. This is probably the best DJ Dan cd out there. Of course, no cd will ever match the excitement of his live shows. Nonetheless, if you've got a good soundsystem and home entertainment center, this CD/DVD package aint' bad either.

Please keep in mind that I like funk/disco/keep your moving house and this what this cd is about!

Finally Dan is back! In his keep yo body moving fashion. This CD, much like Funk The System in which it keeps you dancing the whole time! If you want something to jam to then you should pick this bad boy up!

I picked up this CD as I've always enjoyed DJ Dan live...after listening to the cd and thoroughly enjoying it I brought the DVD to a buddy who has a phat system. We dropped the DVD in and sat down in chair at the sweet spot of his 6 channel surround sound...What we heard blew us aways...it was like being in a club... crowd noise around you... tight beats coming from the front and an experience unlike any cd can bring. I look forward to more dj's capturing these live performance is surround sound and hope that one will include video from the club along with it or perhaps animation. This is a great buy and I'm now going to pickup the other Mixed Live cd's right away.

I agree with the previous reviews, Dj Dan lays it out on Moonshine's mixed live series. He's had better sets before, like at the Raves and after hour clubs he dominates at. But this is the closest you come upfront. Dan has set the bar for others throughout the years, along with Carl Cox, Donald Glaude, Mistress Barbara in the same league.The only thing I was hoping for in this mix, was more of his FunkyTechno side. None the less, he pulls off a vintage DJ Dan burner on his latest release.

JUST BUY IT. THE BEST BUY IN A LONG TIME. PERIOD!!!!

When I put this on I feel like I'm at Ruby Skye. The tracks are off the hook and DJ Dan brings a world of club into my car every time I rock this. Very funky and techy house.

i saw dj dan up in calgary just about a month after this cd was recorded. i've heard all of his past cd's, but none do justice to what he can do live, which is why i was so excited to hear this latest one. i've seen him a bunch of times over a span of about 6 years and he's always sick. this cd brought me back to that party in calgary because there were many songs he played that night as he does on the cd. let me put it this way, you know how sometimes, at the end of an amazing night, you wish you could have recorded that to hear it again? well this is as close as you get. always banging, always pumping. the only bad thing i have to say is sometimes the people in the background are screaming just a little too much. well too loudly i mean, that microphone must have been pretty close to the crowd. it does give a nice feel that you're there live, but still, it gets annoying especially when it's not an overall crowd noise, but like one really distinct shrill voice. thankfully, it's not too often. anyways, other than that, the mixing is tight, as expected and the music is uplifting, never boring or monotonous and takes you on a very nice ride. if you've ever like Dan before, you'll love him now.

A must "BUY" for all you House/FunkyTechHouse Headz out there.
DJ Dan "Da Man" comes correct once again. The CD is reflective of his trademark sets from the beginning to the peak. The mix starts off with a smooth bumpin groove, then turns up a notch, setting you up for a taste of some Hard-Hittin-Funky-Techno (Joey Beltram/JB3 - Super Magnetic & Big Funk Blaster). Dan also plays his new release - "That phone track", Giving his supporters/fans another treat of his studio magic. Add this to your collection, Lock in your CD Player and turn it up!!. I got to check out yet another Bangin set from Dan this past weekend @ Spundae, LA (CD Release party) I had my CD Signed and a free poster as well. Like always, he had the place goin OFF DA HOOKZ!! into an after hour frenzy. I've attended his events/gigs since 99 from the raves to the clubs and the thing that really stands out about Dan, is the fact that he's never crossed over to the cheeze wagon (like most DJ's/Artists now-a-days) He's maintained his status and consistency throughout the years labeling him as the most beloved and respected DJ worldwide. For all you (Paul 'Boring Oaken-Cheese') Trance-cenders and (Stale Sasha & Digweed) Progressive peeps out there, this might not be for you, But check it out and you'll experience the Needle Damage Dan brings. Enjoy the underground sounds at it's best!!

Though this album is mixed live, it is by far one of my least
favorite cds by Dan. This cd does not do justice to how he
normally spins live. Taking into consideration, that 70 mins
is not enough time to tell a story and being limited to only
a certain number of records that can be licensed, this cd doesnt really get going till track # 6. Having said that, his "Roundtrip" cd is by far the best he has put out and that was made at home !!As always i give Dan an A+ for his mixing skills . I have seen Dan spin dozens of times and he never ceases to amaze me. Tru Dan fans know what i'm talking about. I love the fact that the dvd is in 5.1 Surround !!
