4.0 out of 5 stars Drum and Bass is alive and well and ready to move you.
If you have never heard a `mixed live' CD before you might not know what you are in for. In this series you get to hear all the reactions and excitement of the crowd. That may not seem that important to you but to a good DJ is all that matters. A great DJ has paramount concern about the state of the crowd. If they are entertained than the DJ is doing something right...

3.0 out of 5 stars Can we drown out the MC
First off, after hearing MC Navs, MC Skills, i would never book this guy for a venue. The only reason I gave this cd a 3 is because of the supposed MCing. If not for that i would rate it about a 4.5 Once again AK 1200 comes through with some awsome track selection. Everytime i see this guy at the Planet of the drums tour he gets better and better. I feel bad AK 1200...

If you have never heard a `mixed live' CD before you might not know what you are in for. In this series you get to hear all the reactions and excitement of the crowd. That may not seem that important to you but to a good DJ is all that matters. A great DJ has paramount concern about the state of the crowd. If they are entertained than the DJ is doing something right. If people are not enjoying the experience than the DJ will hear about it later, believe me. In short, this format gives you a fuller experience of what it is like to be there. I think that is pretty F'in cool!

Moonshine Music's new series `Mixed Live' has already shown the talents of superstar DJs such as "DJ Micro" and "Keoki." For the latest installment of the `Mixed Live' they have chosen one of my favorite DJs. AK1200 has been a `drum and bass' style DJ for ten years now. He was there at the beginning of `drum and bass' and has had a profound affect on its development for the last decade. He was a first generation rave DJ in Florida and has the best the scene has to offer.

In this mix he is paired with the vocal talents of MC Navigator. `Drum and Bass' is not a style that leans too much toward lyrical content simply because it is so hard to match. But the MC did a good job in keeping things going and making sure the crowd was loud and alive. It was quite an interesting mix.

I am not sure what you will think of it but I enjoyed this mix all the way through. You may not agree with me so check it out for yourself. After all, what do I know?

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't understand all the dissappointment?, August 3, 2002

I can't see why everyone is so down on this Cd. Trust me passer-byers this disc is not that bad. The only reason I give it 4.5 stars is because I have listened to Fully Automatic and got blown away by it. The only difference (if you liked Fully Automatic) is that they used an MC to try to get back to the level they have achieved. Listeners probably don't take to it because the MC bastes attitude all over the disc, however it still remains an up-beat dancable attitude and doesn't quite reach the ranks of rap. The only thing keeping it from a five star rating is that this Cd in my opinion starts off much stronger than any of the other AK1200 discs I have listened to but begins to falter about half way through. However keep in mind it doesn't trip too bad they retain thier sound throughout the disc. They simply take a step down from the incredible high that is immediatelly brought into the Cd.
Thanks

2.0 out of 5 stars quality ak; one mc less please, November 25, 2001
This review is from: Mixed Live (Audio CD)
Moonshine's a top-notch label and Ak1200's past releases have been excellent. But anyway mixed live. With Mc "All I can say is 'San Francisco', 'Make some noise'and 'Wicked selecta'". Okay a little harsh, but navigator's GPS was broken at this show. he had very little flow and absolutely nothing to say except the fore mentioned things. Usually an Mc will at least hold his ground or really add to the mix but navigator was just stale and annoying. The album would have actually been better without him in my opinion.
Other than the Mc, AK1200 brought the goods. the track selection was very solid and his mixing skills made the mix better than other jungle mixes. he ends the mix with his beloved 'drowning' by cleveland lounge. it's a dope track and it's nice to hear his remix of the song.
Pick up Lock and roll.it's a 5 star. Checkout XXXL and Mc skibadee's releases 'Blowing cones and domes'and' 2001:drum and bass odyssey' for some good jungle with a quality mc.

3.0 out of 5 stars AK at his finest... Navigator on an off day, August 28, 2001

AK1200 has been one of my faves for years. I have also heard some of MC Navigator before. The tracks that AK lays down are phat. Some of his best choices yet. This CD does capture the ambience of the party quite well, however... Navigator's frequent narrating does get in the way of an otherwise great set from AK. My Rating: Good once or twice.. then, sell it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Put Your Hand Together for AK1200!, February 20, 2001

One of the most successful electronic music tours can be expected to bring the best electronic music acts. AK1200 has become one of the biggest names in the Drum and Bass genre, and this live cut from his San Francisco appearance proves why. A combination of AK1200's brilliant turntable stylings, MC Navigators crowd pumping freestyle, and the energy felt by the crowd who were listening to it live make this CD a must in any electronic music fan's collection. You do not know Drum and Bass until you have heard a live act with an MC calling to you. Mixed Live with AK1200 and MC Navigator will take you there, right by the speaker.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Oh my gosh, my selectah-they did not even know what hit em", February 19, 2001
This review is from: Mixed Live (Audio CD)
First, let me say that I'm a fan of drum and bass, but not a true soldier--I like it, but I don't love it. This is the first AK1200 mix I've ever heard. And it's GOOD!

The things that piqued my interest in this particular mix were the fact that it is in the Mixed Live series, and that MC Navigator was MCing over it. AK1200 picked some excellent tracks for this album. Lots of hard d'n'b, sounded like tech-step, but not as hard and furious as, say, Dieselboy. Every track included is a winner--not a dull moment. He also does a lot of tricks and scratching. However, he never overdoes it. It's used to complement the tracks, not to overshadow them. The rewinds and tricks are used just enough to be interesting without being overdone. The mixing is extremely smooth, almost on par with Richie Hawtin (almost...).

Navigator is an excellent MC. He knows when to rap, when to yell encouragement to the crowd, and when to shut up and let the music be the focus. I can't understand a single word that he's saying, but it's ok, because he gets the job done. The crowd noise is minimal, so if you don't like that kind of thing, it shouldn't bother you.

Another thing that's great is that the set was taylor-made for this CD. This isn't a 4-hour set, condensed into 75 minutes. The original set was 75 minutes--you hear the whole thing.

All in all, I cannot recommend this enough to drum and bass fans. Truly an excellent mix, and proves that the Mixed Live series is a brilliant idea.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT LIVE MIX CD, July 29, 2001

I listen to a whole lot of D&B and Jungle, and it is hard to find good albums, good live albums, and good live albums with an MC. MC's are a big part in D&B, specially at live shows, but you can't always get the live feeling with most albums. This is one of my favorite albums because of those reasons – check out AK live!
