Serendipity in Action - Awesome Book!!!,
By Dave H. (Lakenheath, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mixed Martial Arts: An Interactive Guide to the World of Sports (Sports by the Numbers) (Paperback)
I don't feel the need to share my viewpoints on too many things, but I couldn't resist on this one. This is a truly enjoyable book. In a word, the best way I can describe this book is with the word Serendipity: "the gift of being able to make delightful discoveries by pure accident."
That is exactly how this book worked for me...discovering facts that are at times funny or jaw-dropping, at other times downright unfortunate. It's a highly entertaining way for a growing fan to catch-up on need-to-know info, as well as "insider" facts and figures. The book also works well in large doses - to settle in for a "good read", but it also works well in small doses - in your spare moments...or work breaks. The chapter introductions are my particular favorite sections of the book. This is where Zac Robinson gets more opportunity to show is talents as a very insightful writer. His ability to express both "insider" and "outsider" perspectives is impressive. I look forward to reading other books from him, which I understand from his outstanding Blog are in the pipeline. Buy this book - you won't be disappointed!

A fast and furious look at the world of MMA,
By Brian Westbrook (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mixed Martial Arts: An Interactive Guide to the World of Sports (Sports by the Numbers) (Paperback)
This is a great book for mixed martial arts fans -- truly unique, the numbers tell the best stories, from the truly bizarre to the utterly astounding. All of your favorite fighters are guaranteed to be here, and the stories you read about them will highlight the many reasons they are your favorite fighters to begin with. There are a lot of MMA books out on specific fighters, but if you want a fast and furious look at the whole sport, then this is the book for you. And if you are a trivia buff, the author also has an MMA trivia book on the market that is equally outstanding: Mixed Martial Arts IQ: The Ultimate Test of True Fandom.

If you are into Mixed Martial Arts, this book has over 1000 facts, numbers, tips, stories and amusing incidents to keep you reading for months! Whether it is the UFC or modern MMA, Mixed Martial Arts: An Interactive Guide to the World of Sports has you covered. Heck the 11-page index alone is worth the price of the book as a quick reference to a particular fighter's history.
The authors have several great Sports by Numbers books out that I have reviewed previously New York Yankees: An Interactive Guide to the World of Sports (Sports by the Numbers) and MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: An Interactive Guide to the World of Sports (Sports By the Numbers). Zac Robinson also wrote Mixed Martial Arts IQ: The Ultimate Test of True Fandom (Volume 1) another great MMA book I can recommend. So look no further for your MMA reference manual. It is here and available now! Sam Hendricks, author Fantasy Football Guidebook and Fantasy Football Tips |
