Mixed feelings....,

This review is from: Mixes (Audio CD)
First of all this is an EP, not a fully-fledged album. There are 7 tracks in all but only three songs, the originals of which appear on the wonderful "Djupa Andetag" album. Essentially, this EP is a kind of "greatest remixes" collection, in that it gathers the remixes which appeared as bonus tracks on the main single releases.OK, so let's cut to the chase. There are two really great remixes here: "Ogonen" [the Lemon Mix] and "Alla Mina Basta Ar" [the Adagio mix]. The former is slinky and vibey and is actually an improvement on the album version. The latter is a dreamy, spaced-out take on what started life as a bouncy, feel-good number with '60s roots. There's also a very pleasant instrumental version of this mix, which makes great chill-out music. Elsewhere, things are not quite so hot. The single remix of "Alla Mina Basta Ar", the EP's opening gambit, is nowhere near as strong as the album version (and may help explain the tepid chart performance). The extended version of "Aven En Blomma" is OK, but not a patch on the album version. It's one of those songs that would be pretty difficult to improve upon, really. And, to be honest, if the remixer had hopes of filling Swedish dancefloors with this mix, I somehow doubt he succeeded.... And finally, with regard to the second remix of "Ogonen" (simply labelled 'version'), I have a question for the remixer: what were you thinking? This EP is great for collectors and, as I mentioned already, there are two or three really good remixes here. However, if you're not really a die-hard fan, you'd be better served by the glorious parent album, "Djupa Andetag". Kudos to Frida and her label for making the effort to keep things up to date. Maybe next time the mixers could be picked more carefully.
