Review
"Here are the treasures of youth -- "Boy and Girl" chasing up fire escapes and across roof tar. Here is the coming of age -- the heavy "Boots" worn for the father. Here is the adult -- honest as hands as mason trowels in "Mortar." Here is a life walking to the music of poetry and full with the images of amusement and wonder." -- --
Andrena Zawinski, PoetryMagazine.com"In Mixing Cement, we find Tomassi's most basic elements of life -- a recipe for what is sold and lasting and sure-footed." -- --
W.A. Reed, Porcupine Literary Arts Magazine"When I read Peter Tomassi's poetry, I am reminded of Seamus Heaney. In his anthology Death of Naturalist, Seamus Heaney's Digging drew parrallels between the craft of writing and the similarly difficult terrain of working a farm in Ireland. In "The Art", Tomassi does a similar comparision, yet sets it on American soil. Whether it's "Builders in Toms River," "The Art," or other fine works in this collection, Tomassi strives for the same goal as all writers: digging for the truth with his pen, and seeking the best arrangement of materials to present his house to the world." --
