My daughter has been a softball catcher for the past 4 years. Up until this season, she's never been with a pitcher that throws fast and hard, so her fielder's glove was sufficient. That changed this season. One game and one bruised hand later we knew she needed a true catcher's mitt. A baseball mitt was obtained as an interim solution but the webbing was just a bit too small for a softball. Based upon other excellent reviews of this glove, we ordered it. I took her a game to get used to it, but it broke in fast and quickly became the glove of choice for her, our team's backup catcher and myself for warming up the pitchers before the games. Pitchers also commented that the white colored webbing made for an easier target. Only improvement I would recommend would be more padding in the thumb area. Wearing a padded catcher's glove and a thumb brace underneath is definitely needed when catching for a fast pitcher.

This is a pretty good buy. The Mizuno is an inexpensive catcher's mitt. That's its chief selling point. It's also really soft, so it doesn't take forever to break in--which is nice. And it fits a variety of hands, including an adult male's. So the glove is a pretty good buy, at least a few weeks in (I don't know if it will hold up yet, but I suspect it will). But there's a slight problem. The glove doesn't have much padding near the index finger and that's not good if the pitcher throws hard (55mph and beyond).

I had purchased one at sporting goods store before, so I could catch for my daughter. I really loved the glove. I sold it to a fellow coach who needed a catchers glove for his daughter. I regretted selling the glove because I could not find it at the store again. I finally asked the coach for the model number. Then I searched it on Amazon and found it. I am not letting this one go. Its a great glove.

I could not get my hand into the opening. I thought the first one I received was defective, so I returned it and got another one. Same thing. I'm not a big guy and could not get my hand into the glove. My 15-year-old daughter couldn't, either. I'm extremely disappointed and now am past the window in which I can return it. This glove is useless as far as I'm concerned.

Perfect to use for girls that are throwing fast and a regular glove does not cut it anymore. I needed something with more padding so my hand would not sting when my daughter pitched to me. The catcher on my daughters team even uses it now and asked my daughter to bring it to every practice and game.

Works well for me, but a little tight fit for my hand. I have small hands, so the little stretch it has done through my first season of use, the glove fits good now. Love that the glove was pre-worked. Did not need break-in time. Just getting some used to after using a regular fielders mitt.

Bought this mitt for myself(adult, Male) to catch my daughter who is learning the art of pitching. It is really soft leather and didn't take long to get it broke in once it was being used. I haven't been disappointed so far and I am not the easiest person to please.

This is a great catcher's mitt! My 15 year old daughter has used it for the past couple of seasons. I am sure our fondness for it is amplified because of the experience we had with the abysmal mitt it replaced (the Mizuno GXS53), but we would have been happy with it even without being able to compare it to that waste of a glove. You can read my review for it on its page if you would like.

This glove did not take long at all to break in, and was mostly broken in with normal usage. I used glove oil a couple of times the first couple weeks, left a softball in it and placed some weight on it (smooshed it under a couch, etc.) for a few weeks. But after the first few weeks, it was usable and quickly broke in the rest of the way by usage alone. And honestly, it was pretty usable the day we received it.

The pocket is made of webbing and is well-rounded (just like the shape of a softball, imagine that!). I have heard one argument against this "open-webbing" type of pocket - that you can see some of the ball through it so it is harder for a catcher to conceal the ball and fool the umpire into calling a ball a strike by framing the catch. In reality, this argument does not seem to hold water. Besides, the alternative is to buy a glove whose pocket is made of a solid piece of leather and is attached to the glove in "surgical suture" style, which does not cater to stretching out or trapping the ball very well. You know, like the GXS53 whom we affectionately nicknamed "Ole Dropped Third Strike."

Here is something that thrilled me a little more than it should have. The way the GXS92 is shaped right out-of-the-box, the ball catches in the pocket and does not come loose without even having the glove on your hand!
