I purchased the 11" Mizuno Prospect GPP1102 youth mitt for my 7 year old son who is average sized (perhaps a bit thinner than average). I was very pleased to find the glove was ready for play. The leather is soft and the Mizuno "Power Close" design with a notch near the wrist made it easy for him to fully squeeze the glove and catch balls immediately. I expected to have to go through an extensive break-in period first. Instead, I can only see this glove getting even better and better and with what appears to be high quality construction, it should hold up for many seasons.

I purchased it on-line and thus was unable to be certain of the fit. However, I find this 11" size is only slightly on the larger side for him and should fit him for many years. It certainly fits him better at this age than the 9.5" glove he was previously using. The 10.5" would probably have been an acceptable option, but I am glad I purchased this one.

(I also purchased a Rawlings Player Preferred Series PP115BRC Baseball Glove (11.5") for my 9 year old son which is also a very good glove if your are looking for a slightly larger youth mitt.)

I liked the quality of the glove and it needed only a small amount of working in before ready to play with. Was slightly smaller than expected from a similar glove purchased earlier (GPL 11 inch). That GPL was good for ages 8-10 whereas this glove is more for ages 7-8.

My 9 year old loves this glove which replaced the one he had since kindergarten. It is sturdy, yet comfortable and looks like it will serve him well for the next few years.

Bought this to replace a second hand older model that was worn out. Was looking to buy an even "better" glove regardless of price but went with this one after reading a ton of reviews here and elsewhere. Some reviewers have said it is ready to play right out of the box...with my experience I did have to oil it and wrap it, and soften it up a bit, but that should expected with any glove. The glove catches great, closes tight around the ball and is easy to close. After a couple days getting it broke in, my seven year old was hanging on to a LOT more balls than with the old glove. My son has a fairly weak grip, yet it is still very easy for him to close. I would recommend it to anyone.

A couple of years ago my son was making the jump from coach pitch to kid pitch league. I got him what I thought was a good glove. I bought his younger brother the same model. It was bigger than his Tball glove but the balls kept popping out. I spent the money and got the 10 1/2 in version of this glove. The result has been that my son has become an amazing shortstop. Partly because he pays attention but the other part is the ball no longer pops out of his glove.

This glove is probably not leather although to be honest I can't tell. I am just guessing because it closes extremely easy. It also has a notch in the palm that also makes it easy.

My 6 year old who has been playing since he was four(No joke) was still using the same glove I had bought him a couple years ago. Balls kept popping out and he was getting frustrated. So I spent the money and got him this glove in this size. Well guess what. He can catch now and after two times practicing with this glove he stopped trying to catch everything underhand and is catching everything the way he is suppose to.

If your player can't catch yet it is because they don't have this glove. Stop cheeping out and spend the money. I promise it will be worth it. They have smaller models too. The tag says this one is meant for 6-8 but my six year old is a giant. I would say more for a 7-8 year old unless your six is big too. Go 10 1/2 with a six year old.

Really, the best glove on the market and I looked everywhere!!!

My 8 year old was having trouble catching with his Rawlings, he tried the Mizuno and started catching everything. It closes so easily and wraps around the ball so it does not fall out when catching backhanded or across the body. I bought a second one as a backup and my 6 year old saw it and started using it and he is now catching much more consistently. In my opinion by far the best glove for kids.

I bought this for my son bc his mitt was too small from last spring. It arrived one day early which was perfect for practice. I did not have to do anything to it. Nice soft leather and felt already broken in. Great price for a great glove!

Great little mitt. Made a huge difference for my 6 year old. Get rid of the cheap plastic mitt and get your kid a good glove. I did use glove oil to break it in - pretty soft as is, but oil made it game ready.

Bought 11 inch for 6 year old and a 10 inch mitt for our 5 year old grandsons. Highly recommended. Had them softened up a bit at a local store in one of their designated machines for this.

This is the kids first glove and I am very pleased with it. I only did one day of oiling and wrap and it seams to be to have helped greatly for him. Yes I would recommend this
