Like many loyal Wave Rider fans, I had to give Mizuno a hiatus when the WR14 replaced my beloved WR12's and 13's. I bought a pair of WR15 blind, believing the Mizuno press, but was disappointed on many fronts. They lie almost unused on my wide shoe shelf. So I was naturally skeptic when the WR16 was announced. When I saw that I could easily get a pair in 2E width, I had to buy a pair, since getting neutral light(ish) running shoes for my large feet has been a nightmare since the WR13 disappeared.
The 16's in the US15/2E size are almost generous in their fit, which is a real luxury for me. I haven't yet done more than a 15km run with them, normally it is above the half-marathon distance where my feet spread and I need more space. They seem quite light in weight, although I possibly heavier than I remember my 12's used to be. The fit is generally good, the heel fit is very slightly looser, but OK once I used the last lace eyelets.

The front sole is not as stiff as the 15 were, which was one of the main reasons I didn't like them. They feel quite responsive, but not so in comparison to my Brooks Pure Flow which I've gotten used to in the meanwhile. From new the shoes did not feel to have an overdose of padding under the forefoot, and didn't have that bouncy feel that some new shoes, including the older WR, have for the first few miles. This is fine by me, but others might like more padding.

I like the breathable uppers, I suspect they will be nice and cool in the summer - at the moment the ventilation is icy (its well under freezing here at the moment). I like the design, the garish yellow is, well - garish.

So - is this a replacement for the much missed older WR's, I've moved on a bit with my taste of shoe since then, but the choice of large comfortable lightweight shoes on the market is still very limited. When the next marathon has been run in these, I'll be able to say for sure. For now I'm reasonably happy.

The Wave Rider 16 has exceeded my expectations! I have gone through 2 pairs of the Wave Rider 15's in the past year and while they were also a great shoe, the 15's took about 50 miles for me to break in. I ran 2 half marathons and a few 10k's with the 15's. I got these bad boys (the 16's), went for a five miler and they broke in right away. I ran a 23 miler in them just 2 days later with no problems! They are also lighter than the 15's. This is a great neutral running shoe for the heavier runner and/or the heal striker. I'm 6'2", 190 lbs, a heal striker, and training for my first marathon. In my opinion, the Wave Rider 16 is a great shoe whether you are running your first 5k or training for a marathon.

If you have high arches like me and the average shoe doesn't offer you any support, these are great. They support my arches and have a great cushion while running. I love these shoes.

I purchased these shoes about a month ago. I put about 80 miles on them and noticed that something was not quite right. The Wave Rider shoe has always been a go to for me and I have owned several pairs. While I like the color, design and weight of the Wave Rider 16 shoes (I had the yellow ones), the heel is narrower in this edition. When I hit the 80 mile mark I started to notice a lot of discomfort under my ankle. This was due to the narrow heel digging in on my foot. I went to a local running specialty store and they confirmed this for me. Luckily they let me exchange them for a different brand and the ankle pain has disappeared. If you do have a narrow heel this shoe would be a great option. The shoe specialist at the store said that the WR16 has the narrowest heel they carry in this style.

I love my Mizuno Wave Rider 15s and was a little worried that they would change something for the worse, with the redesign. I'm happy to report that they didn't change a thing, except for the styling (and possibly shaved a little weight). The fit, feel, comfort, and ride of these shoes is exactly as great as they were before. Whether you are new to the Mizuno Wave Rider's or have been running them for years, these won't disappointed you. They are great. I run between 4 and 8 miles in them every day (alternating shoes each day), and I absolutely love them. I also have a pair of the far more expensive Mizuno Prophets, and find the Wave Rider's to be far more comfortable, especially over longer differences.

On their website, Mizuno reports that they shaved half an ounce off of these. I don't doubt them, but personally can't feel the difference.

Ok people, I am not a runner by any means. I have foot issues; am awaiting surgery; and need nice fitting, cushioned sneakers for these issues! This is my second pair of this brand; and I have to say that looking any further for any other brand of sneaker is pointless. These: Mold to my feet; have excellent cushioning, feel great on my feet; have just enough toebox room; and really help with walking. I will never purchase another brand of sneakers! Since I can only wear sneakers; shoes don't cut it; I tend to try lots of brands. I just purchased a pair of Asics Tri-Noosa's (?) and they feel like I am walking on planks; literally! I am sure some people might find those comfy but they cannot compare to any model of Mizuno's! Hands down the most comfortable fitting sneakers EVER. Also, I am a female; who can't stand most female colors of sneakers; so I always purchase men's sneakers. I purchased this exact pair for my twin girls; in different colors; and they love them also...wear them for running as well as walking and at the gym. They are in love with this brand also; now that I purchased them a pair! And the Amazon Price: AWESOME! And Amazon Prime will let me ship to my kids in another state so I don't have the hassle of getting them sent to my home; then to the post office/UPS to ship to them! Way to go Amazon!
