A brilliant albumn,

I have worked in many bars in the USA. I always play Mlah and every time I do the bar literally stops and people line up to ask who is this band and where did I get it.

I have never written an Amazon review before, but...,

I am listening to this album right now and thought I'd peek and see what others have said about it. It is one of my favorites. I bought it when it was released and saw this band live in San Francisco in 1990. They were the best live band I have ever seen and they were great guys. (I helped a friend interview them.) I listen to it regularly still 13 years later... What a great album.

A "must have" of the French garage music scene,
By
This review is from: Mlah (Audio CD)
This vital album shows the deluge of external cultural influences that are shaping both French music and society. Musically rich, at times both playful and tongue-in-cheek, this album showcases "garage music" a la francaise with its Spanish and North African themes. The lyrics are both humourous and at times bitingly satirical. The images are likewise grotesque, compelling, and laughable: showing the tragically mundane in everyday life. Perhaps the lead singer's best work before his unfortunate overdose.

The Pogues meet The Gypsy Kings,
By A Customer
This review is from: Mlah (Audio CD)
I was in a laundromat in Arcata, Humboldt County, when amongst the old Women's Days, Lighthouses, & Readers' Digests, I found 2 copies of Punch, the English humour magazine. Among the articles was a record review that caught my eye, "Les Negresses Vertes- it's like the Pogues meeting up with the Gypsy Kings." With billing like that, how could I resist? I ordered it unheard, & I wish all blind dates were as much fun. A week later I was watching "Bad Influence" w/Rob Lowe(check that one out) and LNV was on the soundtrack. I've still no idea what's being said on this (nor did a Parisienne I knew), but who cares?! Big energy and big horns, sacre merde!

Everybody loves this music the instant you put it on. If you want to get your place hoppin', crank it up, cause Mlah is a party in an album sleeve. Happy times!

If you can find it, BUY IT!,

It took me a while to track this one down -- in fact, I finally found it in Buenos Aires, while on vacation -- but the search was worth it. I'm now addicted, and I can see why it was so highly recommended. This opening blast from Les Negresses Vertes is simply as good as it gets, regardless of the genre. Not only that, it's timeless.

Gipsy music with vibes,
By Wim Taerwe (Belgium) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mlah (Audio CD)
This was one of the first cd's I ever bought and I still listen to it frequentally. This CD has a mixture of songs, some very danceable and optimistic (Zoby la Mouche, La valse), others full of melodrama. A CD to play in the summer and to dance on in the open air when the evening falls.

Delicioso como uma pizza de escarola e uma cerveja!,

I'm brazilian and it's very difficult to find good albuns of non-american groups in my country. Since I've listened Les Negresses Vertes for the first time I craved that album. Their music is colourfull and make you feel good after a breakup. Try it! You won't regret.

Great Energy and French Style,
By

I first heard this group floating down the Seine River on a barge. Their music is a strong happy combination of rock, ballad and salsa. Voila L'ete is a sweet 1960s style ballad that laments about Spring time. Other songs are wild exuberant celebrations. This is a fun CD with energy.
