Power against power! The Dodgers' powerful pitching staff which included Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale, versus the Twins' high-powered offense with Harmon Killebrew, Bob Allison, and Tony Oliva. In Games 1 and 2 at Metropolitan Stadium, the Twins got off to a flying start, handily defeating both Drysdale and Koufax but when the Series shifted to Los Angeles, so did the results. The Dodgers won all three games at Dodger Stadium, outscoring Minnesota 18 to 2 With the momentum clearly in L.A.'s favor, Game 6 was do or die for Minnesota, and the Twins withstood the challenge: Bob Allison smashed a two-run homer, and starting pitcher Mudcat Grant launched a three-run blast lifting Minnesota to a 5-1 victory and setting the stage for Game 7. In the finale, the Dodgers started Sandy Koufax on only two days rest, but Koufax pitched a dandy 10-strikeout, three-hit shutout and the Los Angeles Dodgers were World Champions. This home video captures the flavor and excitement of Minnesota's first World Series team. A classic confrontation, where great pitchers topped some great hitters.
