This game is so much better than MLB 2K7 for PSP, it has so much better graphics, Road To The Show is awesome. They still have great gameplay, this game couldn't be much better (other than the fact that David Wright is on the cover), so if your looking to get a good game for PSP GET THIS!!!
I was a big fan of MLB '06: The Show and so I bought this one thinking they could only improve on the last one. I was wrong. The area I have a problem with is the career mode. I always love that part of the game and so I dove right into it when I received this game. After each game, you get a certain amount of points depending on how well you did and how many 'goals' you completed (if you're doing the 'new' version and not the 'classic' career version). In the beginning of your career, this means you don't get that many. If you're playing as a pitcher, you can expect to get few in the early stages since everyone and their mother will hit a homerun against you. You take those points and use them for 'training' to help you get better in any number of areas like fielding, velocity, control, etc. If you don't train in each area after a couple of weeks, you start to lose points. Meaning, if you're not pouring points into your 'control' area every time you get them, then you'll lose control after a week. How unrealistic is that? I mean, real baseball players don't lose velocity if they don't sit there and train every single day. I liked it much better in the last version where you'd work toward building up points in a certain area and then after a certain age, you'd start to decline faster.
This game also seems to have more silly glitches than the last. With runners on base, the game tends to get a little choppy and runs a little slower. Balls that are CLEARLY hit foul are called homeruns, ground balls that your players should throw to get the out at first (if you have the fielding on auto) are thrown to third to try and get the runner from second even though it's not a force and the third baseman doesn't tag him but rather catches it and then throws to first and everyone is safe. Also with auto fielding (which I had on because I was the pitcher and not concerned with the other players), shallow popups aren't caught even though the outfielder could clearly get there in time. He choses to let the ball drop and he catches it on a bounce while everyone scores. Another thing is the catcher calling the pitches that he thinks are your best ones as a pitcher. He even suggests a location. I honestly had my catcher suggest I throw a fastball down the middle to Ryan Howard. And, out of interest, I decided to go along with my catcher for one inning and do everything he suggested. I gave up 7 runs.
A lot of the things that they've tried to implement in this game are good in theory but were not well executed. '06 was much better in my opinion. The other modes aren't bad, but they could use some work too.
All in all, let's just say this: after a week of having the game, I took it out of my PSP and put in the '06 version.Read more ›
This is one of the best baseball games out. Here are my reviews.
The Good: The graphics are amazing. Batting is a blast. Tons of options when creating players. Replay is awesome. Plenty of pitch choices when creating pitchers.
The Bad: Pitches aren't right on the spot when thrown. Speed of pitches can be a hassel.
MLB 07 offers the same features as MLB 06, which was my favorite game to ever come out on psp before 07. The catcher/pitcher AI is remarkable, you have the ability to pitch YOUR own games teaming with the catcher to get those outs. Pitch movements are remarkable, its not always thrown to the spot you want it thrown to, it depends on your pitchers stamina and overall, how good your pitcher actually is. For example, it is fairly difficult to throw a shutout with an average pitcher like Tim Wakefield but not as hard to throw with an elite pitcher like Roy Oswalt. Your career player (if they are a pitcher) does get knocked around a bit while your training to build up your ability but with a little effort and some smart decision making skills with how you spread those valuable training points (like building up one main pitch before developing others), you will be great in no time. Don't listen to the other reviews which speak of losing points if you dont train everyday. you will lose points if a particular area (such as velocity, accuracy, weight room, batting coach, etc...) is abandoned for about a months time. That is you have 4 weeks before your abilities start to decrease. A smart move would be to just let the abilities you dont need decrease while you develop the areas you do need. For example, if you are a center fielder, you do not need a high blocking rating.
The "road to the show" feature is phenomenal. you have the abillity to now play the field, run the bases, and bat. You are in total control of your player. Only downside is that the games are longer now especially if you like to simulate to your "next at bat" like me. An upgraded feature is the interaction menu, as you get to talk to your manager about chemistry, why'd you pull me last game, playing time, starts, and still the favs from last year like "retire into the sunset", and talking to the media.
The King of the Diamond feature is relatively the same and still very fun.
Overall, MLB 07 offers the same excitement and joy as MLB 06 with a few new upgrades and features. If you love 06 then get this one, no questions asked.Read more ›
I enjoyed the game with exception to a few glitches. The only time on career mode that the manager let me throw a complete game was when I was close to throwing a perfect game. There were times when the manager pulled me with 1 out left in the game and a shutout was still intact. You can question the decision but the common response was that he saw that I was tiring or that sometimes he says that he should have left me in longer, but the bottom line is your player/pitcher gets pulled, having it impossible to complete some goals such as getting complete games, etc... Then there are times when the fielders double clutch, resulting in what should be errors but the computer always gives them hits, which goes against your player/pitcher's avg. against.
With exception to those glitches, I enjoy the hitting, pitching and fielding aspects of the game.
