5.0 out of 5 stars MMM, Fun
Like the other Munsch books, this one is wacky and funderful. Also, like the other Munsch books, it began as a story told to children. It builds to a crescendo at the end when the story explodes. My 7-year-old likes the way Munsch's kids are level-headed while the adults tend to go off the deep end.

1.0 out of 5 stars This Book Glorifies Lying
Stumbled on some Robert Munsch books in a local used book store and thought they'd make a good addition to our home library. Sadly, not THIS one. The illustrations are great but the book was not read more than once in our house. In fact, the book is not in our house anymore.

While I think silly books are fine, and we have many we enjoy reading over and over...

4.0 out of 5 stars Meant to be read aloud., July 13, 2003

"Mmm.. cookies" is meant to be read aloud. The repetition and sounds allow the younger children to anticipate the simple plot - you can literally see eagerness on their faces build up to the "YUCK! PWAH! SPLICHT! PLAY CLAY! GLA-GLA-GLA-GLA!"

Martchenko's illustrations are wonderful, with a lot of random things going on in the background. These provide additional entertainment to older children who might otherwise get a little bored with the repetition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mmm, Review, May 13, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Mmm, Cookies! (Paperback)
Mmm, Cookies is a wonderful book!In our class we did an author study. It was a web page, and we put a lot of work into it.The way the story was put was just amazing! The order he put the story. Other books he wrote are very excellent. The boy in the story finds play clay and actually makes cookies out of it. He gives it to his mom! Can you believ that? He actually gave his mom that looks like play dough. My reading buddie especially liked the book. Robert Munsch is a really talented guy along with his illistrator. I recommend this for kids 3-8. a little more desription in the end would have made this book much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Munsch's best books, February 16, 2009

This is a funny, entertaining story. I've been reading this book to the children in my Pre-K classroom for years. Every child I've read this book to has loved it. The only people who don't like this story are uptight adults.

I have been reading this book with my now 2-year-old son since he was a few months old. He loves to "play along"!

Like most Robert Munsch books, this book is silly and features repetition (in this case, they're fun sound words that are made from making disgusting, bright red, fake cookies). After a couple readings, kids will love to make pretend cookies ("WHAP WHAP WHAP") along with you and Christopher.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mmmm Mmmm GOOD!!!, April 19, 2002
This review is from: MMM, Cookies! (Hardcover)
I read this story quite frequently with my two children, 4 1/2 and 9 months of age. The repetition and use of sounds when eating the fake cookies is so much fun. We really get into to it and then after reading it we have fun making our own playdoh cookies. It's great to bring the family together.

4.0 out of 5 stars Are You Kidding Me?, September 27, 2005
This review is from: Mmm, Cookies! (Paperback)
Anyone who gives this book a bad review is not using it in the setting it was meant for. Robert Munsch is a storyteller. His books are best enjoyed in a group setting. I've been reading books outloud and telling stories for many years. This book has stood the test of time. It remains one of my students' favorites. It surprises me how much upper grades enjoy the book, but I especially like using it with children grades Pre-K - 1st. The repetion is delightfully addicting and the whole idea of pulling one over on adults fascinates children. Don't buy this book if Love You Forever is the only Munsch book you've read. This book is more true to Robert Munsch's writing style. If you enjoy Stephanie's Ponytale, Thomas' Snowsuit, or Purple, Green & Yellow then this book is for you!

1.0 out of 5 stars This Book Glorifies Lying, February 18, 2011
This review is from: Mmm, Cookies! (Paperback)
Stumbled on some Robert Munsch books in a local used book store and thought they'd make a good addition to our home library. Sadly, not THIS one. The illustrations are great but the book was not read more than once in our house. In fact, the book is not in our house anymore.

While I think silly books are fine, and we have many we enjoy reading over and over again, when the book centers around a trick involving the child lying to parents and teachers where there are no consequences or lessons learned from the lying, the book misses the necessary opportunity to teach kids about honest behavior.

Sure, it's all in fun, and if I was reading this to a group of kids that weren't mine, I probably wouldn't feel this way. But, as a parent, when everything you put into a young child's head has an impact on the way they see the world, you look at it differently. It's fine and all in fun...until your child lies (or, just "pretends" by telling something other than the truth to a parent or teacher) and you are angry with them. How are they to know when it's ok to fib, or kid, or play a joke, and when it isn't? They're pre-schoolers, they haven't learned the lessons about life adults and even older kids have - which is where books can come in so handy. This book does nothing to help parents in raising honest kids.

With so many other good books available, this one isn't worth exposing to your child.

4.0 out of 5 stars YUCK! PLAY CLAY!, October 5, 2009
This review is from: Mmm, Cookies! (Paperback)
I love this book. In true Munsch fashion, the reactions of the parents (and eventually kid) eating play clay cookies are incredibly over the top and hysterical. They gag, they scream, they brush their teeth a zillion times. And of course Christopher learns his lesson because, as we all know, turnabout is fair play.

There's no real moral to this book, it's just a bit of fun.

I absolutely am turned off the message of this book. The boy plays tricks on his mother and father; when the parents tell the teacher what happened, the teacher plays a similar trick on the boy. I just don't like it. The drawings are great, and I totally love other books by this author, especially Zoom!... but this one is going in the trash can (Sorry Mr. Munsch!).
