It is more a story of personal growth and self-love than a traditional romance.

I devoured this book in just four short days. I must say, I'm very impressed with this submission as the first novel from SJ Byrne. I have read the works of several novice writers this year, and this by far stands out from the rest. Most Scottish romance stories are carbon copies with fluff in between heated scenes, but this however; is a much more complex story tackling very intricate emotions. It is more a story of personal growth and self-love than a traditional romance.

Ms. Byrne incorporated wonderful homages throughout the story, references that many active members of the Scottish-American culture in the United States would instantly recognize, creating a familiarity between the author, the characters, and the reader.

Ms. Byrne should also be commended on the depth of her research, and accuracy of her presentation. As a frequent traveler to Scotland myself, I found it easy to predict the characters destination based off the description of the journey. This adds a layer of authenticity to her novel, both through physical description and the more subtle detail of a culture that is uniquely Scottish. Thus the reader is grounded in a place and time; without the need for fantasy or make believe.

This tale is not one for the faint of heart; it delves into the depths of the darkest aspects of the human psyche, without fear of restraint or taboo. But only with the exploration of the dark can one truly experience and appreciate the light. The fear, awkwardness, and hesitation of the main character takes a full grip upon the reader, as does her strength and growth.

In all, job WELL done, and I can't wait to read what Ms. Byrne will have in store for us in the future.

What a fantastic read! I was engulfed from the Prologue to the Epilogue. A beautifully written story of a young woman's darkest hour to her shiniest ones. It's hard to imagine that this is the first book (of many I hope) from such a talented writer. SJ takes you into a world of events that many people can relate to in their own worlds, and shows us that darkness can be overcome and there are happy endings.

I love this book!!

I'm absolutely fascinated. I've read other books that were supposed to be set in Scotland, but really, it could've been anywhere. This one brings the places alive like no other. And not just the places, the characters, as well. They are so real and so easy to identify with them.

This story is written with exceptional detail to not only the story line but the characters as well. It takes you on an emotional roller coaster. There were times where the honesty of the characters and their situations left me in tears. A fantastic story of love, determination and survival of the human spirit. I eagerly await the next book from this author.

I liked it enough to buy not only a digital copy, but also a hard copies for myself and my daughter.

What a profound read! From cover to cover, I was completely immersed within the narrative. A beautiful story of self-discovery, love, healing and growth - a theme I was able to identify closely with. SJ's attention to detail and seamless flow of storyline left me feeling I had just taken in a movie, not read a book!

I laughed. I cursed. I smiled. I cried tears of pain, followed by tears of joy. I felt it all.

I believe we have only scratched the surface of this author's talent with her inaugural publication. I am eagerly awaiting her next release...
