5.0 out of 5 stars I can't say enough about this album!
This album is better than Roots Revisted! Maceo Parker along with Pee Wee Ellis et al were the main sound behind James Brown in his prime. This is a highly varied album with some great playing. It is one of my all time favorites. It is a good party album.

3.0 out of 5 stars Marginal effort with a couple of highlights
It's hard to go wrong with Maceo, Fred and a Hammond B3. But while this album doesn't disappoint it doesn't inspire, either. The production is slick, there's a couple of hired studio guns on hand, and it all sounds a little mailed in for my liking. No sweaty, gut-bucket funk here. Downloading "The Chicken" and "Southwick" from iTunes is probably all you need.

This is a classic. I find it completely mesmerizing. Ii first heard it in a small Blues dj bar in Tokyo. I was like this is the good stuff. It certainly is. 100% worth the price and then some, utmost listening pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars mo roots, Maceo Parker - Great LP straight ahead jazz, January 1, 2008
This review is from: Mo Roots (Audio CD)
Great CD. I'd recommend it to anybody who likes solid sax and drums. Parker is a wonderful sax player. The other players are wonderful, as well. This was our first exposure to him. We're going to go see/hear him live in February.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow., February 25, 2005
This review is from: Mo Roots (Audio CD)
This album is RAD! This thing has influenced me in my trombone playing as much as any other jazz, blues, or funk recording. Maceo's legendary team of himself, Pee Wee Ellis, and Fred Wesley groove in this one. All three of them have VERY distinct styles and they blen so well. Chicken really displays the creative talent of these performers at length. Oh yeah, I've got to give the rhythm section some! They ROCK too. Not to mention Kym Mezelle on vocals Fa Fa Fa (Sad Song). This one is a must have for the Funk lover.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard bop jazz not funk, May 31, 2000

Mo' Roots is exactly what the title describes it as being. Mo' Roots is a pure bop jazz album and a brilliant one at that. Unlike other Maceo Parker albums, Maceo sticks to bop jazz and incoporates few elements of funk into this brilliant work. Not to say there is anything wrong with his other albums, however this is to die for. Perfect for intoxicated social gatherings. This is the best album i have heard in ages. Simply brilliant.
