5.0 out of 5 stars A great gangster comedy -- classic!, February 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mob Queen [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This film is truly funny. The characters are right out of the Sopranos and the main character, David Proval, is brilliant. Proval gets involved with a prostitute that turns out to be a guy. Proval carries the film smoothly with a real dry touch. Tony Sirico plays the Mob Boss (Joey "The Heart" Aorta) who falls in love with the prostitute without knowing that she's a he. Proval set him with the he-she without knowing that she's a he-she. A great set-up for Proval and Sirico to battle it out. Candis Cayne, who plays the prostitute is subtle and plays the character to the dime. For you boxing fans, Jerry Cooney has a funny bit part as a baker. He has a great scene at the end where he is crying like a baby. Check this film out. I really enjoyed it. There are some classic one-liners and cool Brooklyn 1950's visuals. A must see!

5.0 out of 5 stars A+ for Mob Queen, October 31, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mob Queen [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This movie lovingly spoofs and celebrates earlier gangster films. Some of the actors are recognizable from the hit series The Sopranos. Funny, feminist, and filled with good surprises. Enjoyed the costumes and the New York setting. The film invites you in and gets you more and more hooked. We give it an A+.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Mob Comedy, March 2, 2000

I bought this 'cause I'm a fan of the Sopranos, and I was pleasantly surprised by this gem. It's really funny, in a way almost "Dry as a martini" and has tons of great mob humor. The acting is first rate, especially by David Proval and Tony Sirico who are maybe better here than in the Sopranos. The '50s setting is real cool too. Neat old cars and a complete Brooklyn feel. A great movie.
